A little less songs like "Standing Still" this time-- make me THINK. Jewel has said she wants people to forget their problems with this album, and just dance. I think it's a nobel action. She has always written meaningful songs and supposedly there is a track on the new album called America which is very ironic and witty. It talked about how pop music is in no way reflecting any of the current stress & turmoil, except for Bruce Springsteen. JLM and TNWW on this way were timely, though they were recorded pre-9/11. I really hope she takes the opportunity she has as a relatively popular recording artist to say some things that actually relate to the outside world. She has said that her new songs are lyric-driven, i hope she is not referring to lyrics that could just as well have been written in the 80s, to go with her new dance beats. The fun rhythms can make people get up and dance, but let's please not be dancing in a bubble! Please Jewel, don't follow the Clear Channel marketing trends, let your music be relevant! If Italians can make the holocoust seem funny - and therapeutical, why shouldn't Jewel inspire us and take us into a bubble of our own? there are pleny of opportunities to be political and worried, that doesn't mean we must let go of all pleasure. Please don't ..." sounds like something one might say in a prayer "Oh God! Please let there be tomorrow!"- funny :) nothing bad- just funny.
