JEWEL ROCKS!!!!!!!! love ya, shawney the hippie angel ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Mar 2003 13:24:32 +0800 From: "Peter Cooper" Subject: [EDA] EDA : Jewel digest v8 #71 I think that after James' comments I didn't perhaps quite get my message across....so I will try again. My point I was trying to get across was that the reason that performers such as "Britney" ,"Shakira" and "Avril" are so popular these days was that their songs are simplistic and more driven by beat than lyrics, and the lyrics appeal to teenagers at that particular point in their lives, that is why we have seen these types of performers becoming so "popular" over true artists like Jewel. The majority of record buyers in today's market are teenagers who are more concerned with how the music sounds rather than what it is saying!! if you had read my post correctly you would have noticed that it wasn't a blanket statement at all...it was qualified with the fact that not all teenagers are alike and that many do have the capacity to see the deeper meaning in songs. I agree that I have seen lots of dumb over 20's and even over 30 but that was not the issue I was trying to address. In fact I teach teenagers in schools as well as Adult learners and I can tell you that the state of being"stupid" as you called it does in fact encompass all ages and genders!! Good for you if you would rather see Jewel with a message rather than Jewel with a hit-but for a lot of fans(not necessarily of Jewel's)they would rather see their favourite artist with a hit ,as that way they feel that they are supporting someone who is seen as being successful at what they do!!
