I don't think Atlantic would let Jewel do this. i also doubt the record label would allow such a title. the CD would get banned in lots of conservative chains. Even "This Way" had a pg15 sticker on it in some outlets because of a couple of in-context words. I thought it was a shame that Jewel used the words "shitty food" in "Leaving Time Again," because I thought this was a potential country classic, but most stations are too conservative to play a song with SwEaRiNg in it, alas. - -jack Get your Free E-mail at http://tupac.nasha.com ___________________________________________________________ Get your own Web-based E-mail Service at http://www.zzn.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 2 Mar 2003 03:56:44 -0500 From: "Sandy" Subject: Re: [EDA] new album title= Artsy & Shit >> I don't know, but I don't think this will be the title. I'm assuming you're talking about "Till We Run Out of Road" since Jewel doesn't have a song called "Leaveing Time Again"...."shitty" barely even registers on the swear word scale. It doesn't even get bleeped out on cable...and many classic country songs have included some form of "swearing" or something less-than-conservative, and have had a lot of airplay. That wouldn't have affected it's potential airplay at all, that's what "bleeping" or "blanking" out a word in a song is for, to make it acceptable for conservative stations or stations targeted at younger audiences. The reason that most country stations wouldn't have played this would have to do with the fact that Jewel is considered to the masses to be more of a pop artist than anything else. It would also have had to be released as a "single" to be given airplay I believe until alotted amount of time has passed and anything is playable from the release. I could be wrong about that part though. ~ Sandy ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 2 Mar 2003 08:14:40 -0800 (PST) From: Sean Ryan Subject: [EDA] release date Hey all-----this isn't official as of yet---but amazon.com (under jewel-TBD) has the new cd coming out on June 3, 2003. I have recently acquired what I think will win this contest. I managed to convince Neal Copperman, who made the original Innerchange recordings, to put 2 complete Innerchange shows on CD direct from the original source tapes. They are dated 4/28/94 and 4/7/94. One has Steve Poltz as a guest and the other Joy Eden Harrison. And yes, I am special. J/K, I'm actually just annoying and persistent. :-P LOL. Now my inbox is going to be flooded. Damn! And as for the title of the new album, I could be wrong but when she used the term "joke title" well, I kind of thought it meant it was a joke title. As in a JOKE. As in not real. So there's no need to organize a phone campaign to Jewel's Atlantic rep or anything to try and stop Jewel from ruining her career and bringing the 2004 Grammy's to a screeching halt! :-) Amy N. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 03 Mar 2003 11:36:09 +1100 From: Stephen Hallowes Subject: [EDA] New album release date Someone may have already posted this - but according to amazon.com, the new album is going to be released on June 3rd. They list the album as "TBD" which obviously means the title is "to be disclosed"... and there's no cover or track listing information... but it definitely is listed. And June 3rd is consistent with the estimated dates that we've been given so far (Jewel has always said June was the target for a release). If this date is true, it means we should get a single in April sometime. In fact, today is March 3rd..... so if this date is true we have only THREE MONTHS until a new Jewel album is released. How cool is that? I would say the date is probably true as well. Amazon's information is based on dates announced by record companies/publishers... not rumours. JeweLink will probably deny it or say it's only tentative... but if you remember - the November 13th release date of This Way was revealed way back in June or July of 2001... and at the time JeweLink said all release dates were extremely tentative and the album was "aimed for the fall" etc etc... but low and behold the album was released on November 13th 2001. Oh, and according to Amazon the album is available for pre-order already. The word 'crappy' would have allowed country stations to play it. Maybe in the future it'll become popular when US media outlets aren't so childish about words. i know you're right about the whole 'single' thing, but it mystifies me that radio stations are so mindless that they can't play something unless the record company endorsed the record by releasing a 'single'. Because of the Ty Murray connection, I would have thought a lot of country stations would have played this song, if but for this word. Jewel's fans aren't exactly the Eminem crowd, where swearing helps sales. I'm pleased with Jewel's new dance direction. Even requesting that version, and mentioning that I knew it was released for air play, they would play the old version. Nashville country is mainstream and very pop, but still some crossovers do not seem to be accepted. (And in speaking of the Kid Rock's "Picture"... There are two versions on country radio right now. I cannot speak for elsewhere, but here the stations that play more Texas music (which tends to be more rowdy and curse filled, and better IMO) play the version with Sheryl Crow, and the Nashville country stations play a remix with some other female singer that sounds like she is trying to fake her accent along with some badly mixed in steel guitar. I find it quite comical that a station in Abilene, TX will play it with Kid Rock, a Michigan rapper, but cut Sheryl out, who has a country sounding song titled "Abilene". (Which is not to take into account that both Crow and Rock have performed with several Country stars, such as Willie Nelson, Hank Williams, Jr., etc) I dunno if i had a point in there somewhere, but felt like talking :-) Rowdius ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 2 Mar 2003 21:57:40 EST From: JeWeLNuMbEr1FaN@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] new album title= Artsy & Shit >i listen to country stations all over America when i'm driving and i don't remember any songs with 'shit' in them.the FCC forbids these words. < I've listened to Much to young to feel this damn old by garth brooks on country music stations..is damn better than shit?
