I just moved into a new place and last week we got cable installed ( after not habing it for quite some time). No Jewel things all week then when my boyfriend was channel surfing (which is something that I always tell him off for) we came across a Jewel interview on a show called Speak Easy - I think. Don't know the interviewers name. It was done sometime in '98 as they were discussing Spirit and ANWA. It was refreshing to see something Jewelesk as I live Down Under and have not seen any Jewel stuff in ages. Well just thought I'd let you guys know :o) Take Care Caro the Noosa Angel _________________________________________________________________ Hotmail now available on Australian mobile phones. I think it turns something of an art - the art of sneaking a recorder into a venue to distribute it later on, into a yet bigger money making industry.. That's probably the least of *anyone's* concerns, but it made me think of this: I considered myself a devoted fan, and while I can listen to any of more than a hundred different Jewel recordings from most any point in her career, I will go to concerts again and again because I enjoy the travel and the experience. what about all of the border-type fans out there- the ones attracted to pop culture or whatever, and I'm not just talking about Jewel-fans or Jewel-concerts here- If concert go-ers are able to immediately purchase a copy of the show they just heard, how likely are they to want to go to the show next time around? If they can re-live the experience over and over at any time, how much incentive do they have to go hear it again? Probably less than before... That can be argued the other way of course- that they'll become addicted to the music and crave it more, I just don't see that happening with the masses. The other thing I realized after reading that Boston Globe article is that I don't know how interested I'd be in purchasing a -burned- CD from the music industry - CDs that are ultra high quality in terms of durability are stamped, not burned. I sure as hell better get a stamped CD for my $20. Anyway, that's my recycled thoughts.. One - "the masses" aren't going to go to any concert without a hit. The same people that went to see Jewel only because of the Pieces of You singles were at the Ricky Martin concerts a couple of years ago when he was Livin La Vida Loca. So, as long as Clear Channel is putting money into the artists pockets the they get to get a couple more bucks off of those people before they go off searching for the next top 10 sensation. Two - I happen to remember Boston being the test market for something else that I was pretty excited about 15 years ago. They loved the success of the tests. Only last month did I hear that we might see this enter the U.S. mainstream (it was a particular form of interactive TV if anyone cares). So, there will probably a very long time before little kiosks start popping up outside of every venue. Personally, I'd just like to see Jewel start selling tapers seats so that anyone who wanted to record wouldn't have to be bothered. I've seen this at Blues Traveler, Dave Matthews, Widespread Panic shows. Of course the Grateful Dead started the whole thing. But, it just allows for taping and is a clear way of acknowledging to the venue and security that it's cool. Anyway... She came to my school and played 2 half-hour sets. It was the same material both times but 3-4 of us sat through both of her sets just totally stunned. She played at the University of Central Florida twice on Friday and at Rollins college Saturday night. I went with two of my friends that saw her friday to Rollins to see her again. She was so happy to see us. We got front row seat both times, autographs and she spent like 20 minutes after each show talking with us. In case anybody is wondering she sounds a little like Tori Amos and Fiona Apple with a little Jewel mixed in. She did a cover of Fiona's "Criminal" and I thought it was better then the original :) I dont know what else to say, Shes beautiful, very nice and extremely talented. Check her out. "From Friday's Boston Globe: Instant live CDs of a concert? Testing to begin in Boston" That's a fantastic idea. How many times have you left a concert that you didn't want to end. Now you could relive it on the drive home!! Sure to be a big seller, easier than trying to find a bootleg copy. When Pearl Jam sold copies of their concerts, I think they sold very well. I think I would enjoy this idea as well. It would most likely destroy angelfood however, if we were not allowed to copy and trade if the cds were only available at the concerts. If we were allowed to buy them online or something, it would be nice. But the worst part is trying to pick which concerts to get and which not! I'd get so greedy and spend so much money... Its horrible! To me, I really like getting Jewel concerts like it is. Its cheap and fast. The worst part is just trying to get good quality. I know some bootlegs can be amazing quality, but others, especially recordings of really good shows, can have really bad quality. But I don't think thats a big deal seeing that most shows are pretty decent quality and very listenable, and the fact that its free. I dont really mind the sound being slightly muddled if I'm not paying... I would prefer for one or two shows from each tour which really stood out to be available to buy in great quality. My two cents, peace, Mark _________________________________________________________________ Add photos to your e-mail with MSN 8.
