Stu Radio stations don't actually log playlists (well, they may, but not for the PROs). Webcasters _are_ supposed to log playlists though. ASCAP estimates airplay by sampling music played over a period of time and extrapolating. (How effective this is is a debate for another time.)They then allocate money to the artists by percentage of airplay and such. I've had friends who have been burning copies of cds for years. they don't sell them or rip em to share online, they just copy them for friends or just to have extra copies...why are they not getting sued? If the cops came into ur house and could charge u with any law u've broken with evidence in your home, its laughable that they would charge you with copyright infringement. I don't know about anyone else, but i know i tape every new buffy episode and osbournes episode... hall me off to jail, am i stealing...who knows cuz thats taking away money from me buying the dvd collection right? HA, no, i still buy em, cuz a real fan buys em, others just check em out and return them the next week. where is the line drawn... where it can be, and here it is, online. Will it go away, i doubt it. Its damn simple for me, if i can buy a cd, then i will, if i can dl a file because i like the song, i will, there are more important things to me than dling music, and those would be making music, seeing and hearing it live, and going to college to get my "real job." file sharing won't ever stop, ftp transfering will always be around, side as u may, but personally, i just wanted to yammer a bit. :D LOL, seriously though, i see both sides of the arguement, its hard to pick a side for me. Honestly though, this new ruling on the kazaa case with fingering users is ridiculous and unconstitutional if put into action the Right to privacy will be tossed out the window, is that the way to go? Guess we'll see. I havent really been following public opinion so I dont know if MP3s like this have been adressed.. I went to listen thru my friends list and I came across this song Gullums song from the LOTR soundtrack... I clicked on it and I was promptly taken to a website stating that this mp3's temporary avaliability on line was expired. and that it would no longer be avaliable for free... perhaps this is the new wave of mp3's data? keep them open for so long, with a worm of sorts and then kill the song. I dont know exactly. I didnt go into the technical of it.
