But I thought the GRammys was about GREAT MUSIC, great SONGS, not about "What BRITNEY is wearing tonight"? That is usually reserved for MTV or Vh-1. Sheryl Crows last CD was annoyingly simple as well -poor choices for Grammy nominations. Well, BOB DYLAN was never given his grammy till 1997, he should have won in 1965!! Maybe JEWEL has to wait 22 years. The winner of the Junior Singer catagory was a girl named Meghan (i can't remember her last name) she sang a wonderful rendition of Ava Maria (as in the version Jewel sang on Joy) and she sounded great. Then this morning she was on the Early Show on CBS and she said she was opening for Jewel for her Minneapolis. I was just wondering if Meghan was an EDA or if she was from Soul City Cafe? All I know is that she is one lucky 14 year old to open for Jewel. thanks, Teresa ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 09 Jan 2003 09:56:44 -0500 From: "Connell, Michael P" Subject: RE: [EDA](SJC) Star Search Teresa mentioned: >> Hey I was just wondering if any of you watched the New LIVE Star Search last night? I completely agree. I could have sworn that Jewel recently said somewhere she wishes she could just go into a studio alone with a guitar and record an album. To me, this seems like the perfect point in her career to do exactly that. I think she should get away from trying to reinvent herself and put out an album that consists mostly of songs that have already proven to be among her best, but haven't yet turned up on an album. Why try to experiment, when fantastic songs like Nikos and Violet Eyes are still unreleased? There was a girl a while back who e-mailed me saying she would love my list of quotes. I told her I didn't have them with me, but I would send them to her once I got them. Well, I have them here now, but lost her e-mail address. So if that was you, please write to me and I will get them off to you. And along those same lines, I am a collector of quotes. If you have any good quotes I would love to read them. If you want some in return (mostly dealing with feminism) let me know! :) Mi Rinda ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 9 Jan 2003 17:19:22 EST From: StuartnDee@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Re: The new direction In a message dated 1/9/03 4:37:46 PM, abbakil@prodigy.net writes: << Why try to experiment, when fantastic songs like Nikos and Violet Eyes are still unreleased? >> She's an artist. Artists tend to despise doing the same thing over and over again. I take it that Jewel has always written for herself anyway. It's nice if fans like what she does but it probably has no bearing on what she writes about or how she writes songs. Plus if she recorded another POY, fans would think they have her all figured out and that would be certain death as an artist. It would also suck for her to be forced to record and then tour songs she feels she's outgrown. Since we have all those old songs already, I'm looking forward to whatever is next!! - -Dee ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 09 Jan 2003 09:55:22 -0600 From: "Rob Hanning" Subject: Re: [EDA] Steve Poltz Christa, & everyone, Steve's disc is scheduled to come out in February. It WAS originally due out last year...about half a dozen different dates last year, nonetheless. ;) But he scrapped an album's worth of stuff, re-recorded everything, and it's ready now. Look for it next month. The title, at least the last I knew, is 'Chinese Vacation'. Of course, check out his site, www.poltz.com And for anyone in the LA area, check Steve out at the Hotel Cafe every Tuesday night this month. Later...Rob ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V8 #9 *************************
