I just thought it was interesting. On NBC (westcoast), they just had a segment on Jason Mraz on Extra (at 12:30 AM I might mention). They interviewed him a bit, talked about his unique style. They mentioned how he opened for Jewel. A short little interview and showed some clips of him singing. It was pretty neat. I think it was a repeat of today's (actually, a repeat of the 5th's episode techincally, so really last night's). I can't remember how they do it. I think they repeat the previous show. Either that, or they show the one that WILL air during the day. I think it's the repeat though. Anyway, I thought it was cool to see him in an interview on Extra. Charlotte Martin, One Girl Army Charlotte Martin, test-drive songs - - Prepare to be blown away by dark, emotive piano pop. Charlotte soars. 2. Jason Mraz, Waiting for My Rocket to Come Jason Mraz, Sold Out (in Stereo) - - Jason put out not one, but two wonderful discs full of his unique brand of jazzy folky pop and far far too clever wordplay. Believe the hype. 3. Dave's True Story, Dave's True Story (rerelease) - - Wonderful jazz discovered via the movie "Kissing Jessica Stein." 4. Sarah Slean, Night Bugs - - Sarah continues to evolve and impress; this goes from the catchy "Bank Accounts" to an electronica-infused rework of "Weight." 5. Emm Gryner, Asianblue also see: Shine (single) - - Emm has done it again with what is simply a great pop album, full of clever hooks and obscure lyrics. "Symphonic" reeled me in. 6. Diana Krall, Live in Paris - - No missteps this time around. Krall and her band deliver great jazz. 7. Think of England, Think of England - - These guys rock out; Libbie's voice does wonderful things. 8. Gary Jules, Trading Snakeoil For Wolftickets - - Sometimes great songwriting sneaks up on you. Like this. It's good to be back. So... What else is new, you ask? Jewel has been continuing her preproduction experimentation toward ideas for her next album and has continued churning out many new songs in recent weeks. Since we last updated you on her various collaboration experiments, she's had a few more adventures of note. Prior to the holidays, Jewel collaborated with renowned R&B singer, producer, and songwriter Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds on several new songs. She also spent some time working up new material with one of the UK's most talented and prolific writer/producers - Guy Chambers. Additional sessions also occurred with Lester Mendez, who Jewel really enjoyed working with before. It remains to be seen where all this experimentation will lead, but Jewel has been enjoying collaborating with such talented people and it has certainly expanded the context of her own songwriting ideas. There's so much new material and such a wide range of directions Jewel is currently playing with, that it's difficult to say what direction this new album will take, other than it is sure to surprise many of you. While many of these experiments are quite unlike anything Jewel has recorded in the past, they are all lyrically-driven songs with a focus on her remarkable voice. I'm sure you'd enjoy knowing more and here's an official "heads up" that more is coming, but not from me. Jewel would enjoy updating you herself and we'll be sending you her message in the next 24 hours. Watch for it! Happy New Year!
