Well I've been away for a while and I just got back yesterday and it seems you beat me to it this year! I'm really sorry I'm late! I even got some e-mails asking me about whether I'm doing it this year as well... but hopefully nothing's lost yet.... cause as some of you know for the past four years I made an Album Of The Year poll... and I'd really like to do it this year as well. (If some of you would like to see the results from previous years just drop me a line.) Just list your favorite albums of the year... I know top 10 is standard, but there were complaints on how hard it is to pick just 10. So I'll allow up to 20 albums... which means you can send a list of any number of albums between 1 and 20. Some of you like to take your time and give insightful comments along with the votes!!! I love that... especially for the music I don't have and it makes me wanna check some of those albums - usually they sound mighty intriguing! Those people who list less than 20 albums... can still e-mail me anytime with the additional albums that came to mind later... - ----------- IF YOU ARE NEW TO THIS ------------- HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW IF YOU WANT TO VOTE: 1. Send me an e-mail with your favorite albums of the past year! 2. It is REALLY IMPORTANT to send the list in the order of your preference... because it makes a huge difference if you put an album in the 1st or 20th slot!!! I know the order can be particularly difficult... but approximate the best you can. 3. And remember ONLY albums released in 2001 and 2002 are eligible for this!!! If you don't know what year the album was released just asked me or include it in the list and I'll notify you if everything wasn't OK. 4. However if there are some resonable circumstances I'm willing to make exceptions for albums released earlier, you just have to write the reason along with the vote... and I'll check it out. This is particularly for albums released later in foregin countires. 5. You don't have to send the list of 20 albums. If you send more I will only consider first 20 and if you can't think of 20 titles you can always write what you can think of now and in case you think of more you can send me the rest later. If you can't think of the album title or something don't worry just send a brief description... like: the latest album by ???, or the one containing XYZ song. I'm not saying I know everything - but I'm pretty much into this and so far it wasn't hard to resolve the "riddles" :)) 6. Of course voting is open 'til January 20th!!! 7. --> The address to vote to is: romeantic@email.si You can absolutely share your list with the others as well, just please when you send it out include my e-mail as well. 8. No e-mail address or voter's name will be passed along to the SPAM-O-MANIA or CHAIN-ME-HAPPY mailing lists. For the best in spam and chain letters you have to be good and work hard throughout the year and who knows I might subscribe you for your birthday! 9. Only residents of the 3rd rock from the sun are eligible to enter this poll, and it must be sent from a terminal on this planet. and 10. If you don't vote you have no right to send me hate mail later!!! - --------------------- MAY THE BEST ALBUM WIN -------------------------- That's it! I can't wait for your votes... so if you'd like to see your favorite album among the best of the year... send in your votes... the more of you participate the more ballanced and "accurate" the chart gets... That's it... if you have any further QUESTIONS OR SUGGESTIONS... don't hesitate to e-mail me... if I think of something else that needs to be said I'll send an update... and I will post reminders in the next weeks. Let the voting begin P.S. Since this the fifth poll and at the time I'll post the results I will be celebrating the fifth anniversary of me joining this family, I will be giving out little prizes to a few winning participants based on the criteria explained after the voting closes of course. :) P.P.S. I know some of you posted your 5 selections to the list. So you can use that or even upgrade it since you can name up to 20 and send it to me. - -- Have fun and stay beautiful Dr. RomeAntic, an angel with the worst stroke of luck and a flash of revelation "Oh, no! I remember Jewel was so professional and I was so impressed. She did all the Christmas stuff beautifully, and then she threw in a few songs at the end for the EDA's who were there. She sang a very beautiful version of "You Were Meant For Me'" and she sang "Grey Matter" which was gorgeus. Her mom was so beautiful, too. I just liked them both so much and I was so impressed with how patient and professional Jewel was, how lovely she was, how thoughtful it was of her to sing some of her old material for us even though it was delightful to hear her sing the Christmas stuff it was such a treat to be there and hear the "angelfood". Jewel is quality all the way. This Christmas at my parents' Christmas party we played some great music including Jewel's JOY CD. Hope everyone has a fantastic New Year! I know Im posting too much today!!! But do you guys have any tour suggestions for Jewel's 2003 Tour? Here are mine... 1. Have a "EDA" area that goes to each show where EDA's can meet up and stuff like that and exchange phone numbers or whatever. Make it invitation only, and perhaps Jewel could stop and say hi for a hot second in it. For those of you suggesting another Jewelstock, it won't happen. But this way Jewel could meet with the EDA's at each show for like 15 minutes. You get your invitation from the list, but you have to be a member for atleast 30 days before you request an invitation for you and your guest. 2. Or hey, SELL the invitations to EDA's for $10 each to raise money for HGH. 3. Have a screen again!!! Even in the theatres, it's cool to see her facial expressions when you arn't in the first few rows! And show some parts of the videos when she sings the songs. 4. When's she about to come on, turn the house lights off but leave the stage lit. Then play "You Shook Me All Night Long" and then right before the song ends, have the band walk on, and when it ends, have Jewel walk on, starp on a guitar, and jump right into Standing Still. 5. I know there is going to be a SCC opener at the show, but I think she sould still have a mainstream up-and-comer open too! Screw M2M they were good but we need some MICHELLE BRANCH! Michelle loves Jewel and Im sure she would be more than willing to open for her. And adding Michelle's name to it will get some ticket sales too. And I mean like a 40 minute set, not 20 minutes. 6. I would love to see Jewel co-headline a Lililth Fair. But don't pull a Mclachlan and just do a "Greatest Hits" set. Give her an hour and a half. 7. LAST THING. HAVE A THING ON HER SITE WHERE YOU CAN VOTE FOR A SONG TO BE PLAYED AT THE SHOW DURING THE ACOUSTIC SET. CARNIVORE OR DOES ANYONE BELIVE IN LOVE ANYMORE!!!!!!!!!! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Dec 2002 17:45:29 EST From: MLewisFL@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] NJC: help w/ tab Welcome to the world of guitar tab! Yeah, you should treat all six lines as one view of the guitar, and play all at the same vertical line at the same time. For this particular song, you'll be a lot better off if you try it without a pick. I would use the thumb to pluck the A string, and pointer and middle for the B and E. (I'm fairly sure this is how Jewel does it.) I just put my first tab up on OLGA! It's for Audioslave's "Set It Off". Hope this helps, ml the "just put his first tab on OLGA" angel In a message dated 12/29/02 2:10:52 PM Eastern Standard Time, owner-jewel-digest@smoe.org writes: > From: shawn e williams > Subject: [EDA] NJC: help w/ tab > > i have no idea how to read tab, so i was wondering if you guys could help > me. here's part of the tab for "I'm Sensitive": > E-----2-2-----2-2-----2-2-----2-2 > B-----2-2-----2-2-----2-2-----2-2 > G-------------------------------- > D-------------------------------- > A-2-2-----2-2-----1-1-----1-1---- > E-------------------------------- > > i know you're suppose to read left to right, but does that mean you do > the whole A line then do the whole B line then the whole E line or do you > do the 2-2 on A then the 2-2 on E and B at the same time then back to the > A? i don't know if i'm making sense. anyway, can someone tell me which > one is right? thanks! > > love ya, > shawney > the hippie angel ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Dec 2002 17:58:30 EST From: Dave0828@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] NJC: help w/ tab

From: "Tom H"
Subject: Re: [EDA] FINALLY The 5th Annual Album Of The Year Poll

Hey,

Just wrote my top 20 to FTE, so forget about my top 5 list here's my top 20
albums of 2002:

1. Norah Jones - Come Away With Me
Amazing how such a simple, understated album can have such success... A
beautiful album and one that's been in my CD player continuously since I got
it in February.

2. Jason Mraz - Waiting For My Rocket To Come
One of the most incredible voices I've heard, and he's written some mighty
fine (and pretty catchy) songs too :).

3. Leftover Crack - Mediocre Generica
Hands down the best live act I've seen this year, even beating the great
John
Mayer. How a bunch of guys from the slums of New York managed to make such a
great album eludes me, but this is the best punk/ska writing I've heard of
since Bradley Nowell died.

4. Ginny Owens - BluEPrint
Another great voice, and with the stripped down instrumentation of this CD
it
really shows.

5. Tori Amos - Scarlet's Walk
I never thought I'd ever understand Tori. But this album kind of opened my
eyes and her other albums seem to make sense too now. Can't wait to see her
live in January :).

6. A - Hi-Fi Serious
At the beginning of the year I had little respect or time for A. After
seeing
them live I quickly changed my mind - one of the most fun, energetic rock
bands you'll ever experience. After 10 months and 3 more live shows, I still
haven't got tired of them or this album.

7. Beatsteaks - Living Targets
After living in Germany for 13 years, I finally found a German band to like.
Another one of the best live bands I've seen this year, along with what is
without a doubt the most spine-tingling single I've ever heard. Download
'Let
Me In' and if it doesn't make you want to jump around the room a lot then
you've got something wrong with you.

8. Ginny Owens - Something More
The first album Ginny released this year - it was a little over-produced,
maybe, but that didn't overshadow Ginny's great songwriting and excellent
voice.

9. The Streets - Original Pirate Material
Mike Skinner, the UK's only ever decent rapper? Probably, and lyrically he's
one of raps biggest talents of all time, in my opinion.

10. Simple Plan - No Pads, No Helmets... Just Balls
Flying Canada's flag in my top 10 :). Good clean punk pop fun just the way
it
should be.

11. Vanessa Carlton - Be Not Nobody
11 of the year's best pop songs this side of 'Like I Love You'.

12. New Found Glory - Sticks And Stones
More punk pop and another of the live bands that I really enjoyed this year.

13. Lauryn Hill Unplugged
Listen by listen this CD keeps growing on me. A really special CD.

14. Foo Fighters - One By One
How this band gets better with each album I don't know. 'Tired Of You' is
one
of my favourite songs of the year.

15. Doves - The Last Broadcast
While Coldplay are flying the flag for depressing British music, Doves bring
a
bit of sun into everyone's lives and sound a whole lot better for it.

16. Counting Crows - Hard Candy
While there are no classics on here like the great 'Mr Jones', Duritz has
come
up with another classic.

17. Sum 41 - Does This Look Infected?
30 minutes of fast punk and melodies that'll stick in my head for months.

18. Lisa Loeb - Hello Lisa
This is kind of cheating since half of the album is a re-release, but as
usual
Lisa's voice and songwriting is a joy to experience.

19. Flogging Molly - Drunken Lullabies
Nothing new about an Irish punk band, but they make Shane McGowan look
bad...
almost :)

20. Sheryl Crow - Cmon Cmon
Not Sheryl's best album ever, but songs like 'Safe And Sound' and 'Weather
Channel' are still great, and 'Soak Up The Sun' always makes me smile, even
if
everyone else thinks it's meaningless :).

All of these albums were released in 2002 - no cheating for me... If I
included 2001 too I'd have included Jack Johnson, John Mayer, Majandra,
Jewel, Sarah Mclachlan Remixed and too many more :).

So many more I want to mention but I will stop myself before I go on too
much... Just want to say that Ash's 'Intergalactic Sonic 7's' belongs at
number one but I didn't want to put it in because it's a greatest hits
collection... If you don't have any other Ash albums, though, you must buy
this because it's the finest collection of guitar pop you'll ever find.

Cheers,
Tom.
