It doesn't matter who they are as long as they try to express themselves. (Remember that Marylin Manson collaboration rumour wayyy back?) I feel the same way. Artists make good music, at least in a few people's eyes. Just because you do not enjoy their style or the mood they portray does not mean that they are bad artists. Everyone has different tastes. Personally, I go for more optimistic or alternative-ish music, rather than rap or hip-hop. And I have to admit (I'm not saying names) that *some* artists are all about the money and only the money. Since it seems that no one can really respect anothers opinion, lets end this debate now and just agree to dissagree on things, because debating over such subjects drives us EDAs apart. This group is supposed to be about what we have in common! Jewel Upsets Gays with Dylan Comment Singer Jewel has upset Bob Dylan fans and gay activists during her current American tour after suggesting the rock legend is a homosexual. The pretty Alaskan star told fans during a recent show in New York that she was sure Dylan was gay because he didn't make a pass at her when the pair toured together. But her comments, whether jokes or not, have caused outrage in America - because of her choice of words. Jewel, who once admitted she dreamed she had bedded Dylan when she was a teenager, said, "I was summoned to his dressing room and obviously Bob Dylan is gay if he's not interested in me. I mean, look at me. Who would have guessed Dylan was a faggot." A spokesman for gay and lesbian activist group GLAAD says, "This is wrong. The word `faggot' is a dreadful derisory phrase and we're upset that Jewel used it." ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Nov 2002 12:28:18 EST From: JeWeLNuMbEr1FaN@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] jewel/bob dylan story at imdb.com Dannng! I thought some of the acting could have been better, and I didn't think it was as good as everyone said, but I'm glad I got to see Eminems side of the story, instead of just the press. I understand he has some anger issues. But so many musicians do. And I don't think it's fair that he gets all the backlash for it. If you don't like his lyrics, you don't have to listen to them. I think he is very talented, and cute *blush*, and I think people should give him a chance. I don't agree with everything he says. But what I got from the movie, it seemed like his mother was raised the way he was raised. It's a cycle which will not break, until someone breaks it. And hopefully that is him. And I think Tori's version of his song is really cool. I love what she did with that album. Just my opinion. America is outraged?? Yeah. The only reason that people may be outraged is mainly due to the media and their horrible job of covering the entire thing. She obviously didn't offend anyone in the audience, (I'm just going according to other posts here. They seem more believable than the media.) because after saying she loved gays, people cheered and laughed. But if the organization GLAD really feels that the word is wrong, then she should stop it. Gays have the final say in this, I have to say. But if no one in the audience was really offended, then it seems pretty naive I guess to be all boohoo because they know that someone, somewhere, where they were not said the word "faggot." And addressing the upset Bob Dylan fans... if they were offended simply because she suggested he was gay, they have to be homophobic to begin with don't they? I really doubt Bob Dylan is outraged at all of this. What people need to realize that the word wasn't offensive until they made it offensive. The word was used in a humourous context and nothing else was meant by it than just that. I'm really getting tired of the media trying to make Jewel look evil and egotistical. But if anyone is truely deeply offended, I feel really sorry for them and my heart goes out to them, and I hope they remember that Jewel did not mean anything bad by it, it was just a joke, and she is still an angel. However I also suggest that they try to change their ways of thinking, and judge words by the context in which they are used, not just for being said. Sorry if I ranted too long, guys.
