I don't really like it. I think it is too produced. I could have done without the effects and stuff. I think it would have been best if it was just her and a band rockin' the song... Oh well. Was anyone else there? :) HEre's my review: While it was an awesome show, I dn't think it was one of her best. I was deeply saddened that she didnt' play Does Anyone Believe In Love Anymore? and she DID NOT tell the drug bust story. Maybe she is getting tired of it? I really wanted her to tell it though, since my mom was with me, and she has never heard it before and I know she would have gotten a kick out of it. Anyway, the show was good, and the crowd was awesome. Cheering at every song. The Bob Dylan story was funny, (and, for the record, she did retort on that story in a little sing-song voice saying "Dylan's a fag, Dylan's a fag".) The Race-Car driver story was hilarious also. The highlight of the night was Carnivore though. SO amazing. ALso, right before Morning Song someone's cell phone went off and Jewel said, "Shut your cell phones off!" Thus changing the lyrics to morning song to "Let the phone NOT ring". FUnny! :) Jason Mraz was absolutely GREAT!! It was the first time I'd ever heard his stuff, and i must say that he was wonderful. Hilarious. everyone loved Chicky, the bongo guy. lol. Lauren Yahoo! This is one of the most offensive words in the english language. > She's stooping as low as Eminem now. Ick. Whether it was a joke or not -- > I'm sure not too many people found it funny. You give a word its meaning by censoring it. The word is just a word. And it is only offensive if it is meant in an offensive way. Telling people not to use the word will make it hurt twice as much when someone does use it. If everyone decided to use the word fag all the time and use it in different ways, then soon it will no longer apply simply to gay people and it will no longer carry as much meaning. If radio and TV stopped censoring all together, using cuss words would no longer be fun. If no one took them to be offensive, then they would lose their value. If you know someone who never curses and they use one of those words one day, think of how much more weight it carries than someone who uses some cuss word in every sentence. I think that Jewel making a joke of the word could be taken in a hurtful way. Especially when so many people do take it seriously. However, I doubt that any person in the audience felt personally insulted by her using it. Because Jewel has nothing against gays. If you find the word itself offensive, no matter how it's used, then YOU are the one making it hurtful and meaningful. Another thing is that Eminem does not stoop low. Everything he says and does is to make a statement. It may not appear that way, but think of how many people love him. No one in their right mind would love someone who insults every single possible category. Unless they understand his point. He insults everyone! I am included in many of the categories that he insults. But I take no offense to them. Think about it, what do people still find offensive? Insulting homosexuals and women. People still make a big deal out of that. So that is who he insults. He has so many gay fans and they are fans because they understand what he's trying to do. I'm a fan of his and I do not put up with people who seriously have something against homosexuals. I think anyone who does is ignorant. And many of his fans probably agree with me. If you don't understand him or take offense to him, you are proving his point. Okay, I am done now with my little speech. I hope that people are able to understand what I'm saying. I dont think its a big deal and I guess she isn't too concered either since she continues to do it. Remember she took heat from some people for saying Faggot in Pieces of you and and I bet some of the people who are alittle upset now defended that. Either way she did it in a totally joking fashion so I think those who actually see it don't have a problem its those who hear half the story second hand that get a little upset. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 16 Nov 2002 14:30:06 EST From: Pixi42@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] Jewel didnt intend to insult Dylan ok i wasnt going to say anything about this before when i first heard about it because i thought it was just an impulse thing but i went and saw her last nite in Lowell and she told the same story using the same words. I personally was offended and bothered by her saying fag, it doesnt matter how she meant it. like someone else said when i hear that word it rings with the same tone as nigger. anywho, someone else said that do we think that she has anything but the utmost respect for him and im sure she does but the way she told the story last nite was like he was a gross old man (which may be true) and the thought of him anywhere near her was completely repulsing. But what bothered me is that on jewelstock and others when she talks about him she seems almost honored when she gets to sing with him and hes spitting on her face and yes i know she was joking but still the tone was different. i dont know it just bothered me. something about last nites show bothered me. i cant explain it. i am not trying to bash her,she sang beautiful. she was adorable and funny and cute and such a dork:) which i love!! but there was just something off. i left without that feeling i got the other times i went and saw her, like she put me on a high for almost a week and this time i dont know....soemting was just different, did anyone else who attended last nite get the same feeling? Hey everybody! I've been a Jewel fan as long as I can remember, and have tried EVERYTHING to get her autograph. A friend of mine actually got to meet her at a book signing at the Mall of America and got her poetry book signed for me. However, just last month there was a small fire in my home, and most of my books, (including that one!) was burned. I attended 2 Jewel concerts, hoping to maybe meet her and get sometihng else signed, but with no luck. Is there some kind soul out there who has an extra Jewel autograph and would be willing to help me out? The book was so special to me, and now that it's gone I'm devastated. I would buy one on ebay, but I'm so weary of them, and it would mean a lot more coming from another EDA. :) I hope someone can help me. :) Lauren ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 16 Nov 2002 16:05:10 -0800 From: "Jewel Worshiper" Subject: Re: [EDA] Jewel didnt intend to insult Dylan >>You give a word its meaning by censoring it.
