I just wanted to say that I thoroughly enjoyed tonight's Purchase show. I can honestly say that it was by far, the best and most intimate Jewel performance I've ever attended. Firstly, I wasn't familiar with Jason Mraz's music when I went to the show, but he truly was excellent and had a real repore with the audience. The delay between his set and Jewel's performance sucked, but once Jewel arrived, she made up for the wait in spades. Her performance was passionate (seemingly even more passionate than usual), and she really interacted with the audience. And not just the usual taking of requests or responding to questions or comments yelled out from the audience. She actually pulled two fans up on stage, (the first time, one to sing with her, and the second, one to hold her lyrics book for her while she read from it). She also signed autographs for those around the stage during her encore. Jewel really shines in tiny, intimate venues like this, and I hope that she does more mini-tours like this in the future. - -E.A. P.S. The only thing I wished they had was tour merchandise. Everything was leftovers from this summer's tour. They were selling Tiny Lights programs, which I thought was neat, though. P.P.S. I guess the lyrics book shows that she's consigned herself to fulfilling our obscure song requests. LOL. __________________________________________________________ Outgrown your current e-mail service? So, I heard today that Jewel was all over the news last night in CT at least... for her Bob Dylan story. Maybe that's why she was so upset at the show last night? Or maybe I'm just being presumptuous. In any case, I didn't really think of it, but she was hinting that she was having a bad day, she was crying, mentioned having us ask for more upbeat songs in requests, and she said her collar bone was the least of her worries yesterday. Anyway, other than that the show was awesome. Jason Mraz was great as usual. He and Toca signed my CD and took pictures with me. I got a lot of great pictures of Jewel on stage, too. I really was hoping she'd play carnivore. She let a little boy up on stage to sing Hands with her, but he forgot the words and sat back down. Aww! Then she also let Dave on stage to old up her lyric book! Hey, Dave, I saw you! ;) I gave her an article that was in my local paper a week ago. She took it and signed my STL, but then she put it down to continue signing, and I don't think she ever got it in the end. =\ Then my friend asked for a picture and I was holding my camera and she asked me if I wanted a pic.. but being the nice friend, I let her go cuz she was the one to ask. Hehe. She was really funny last night and told a lot of great stories, INCLUDING the Bob Dylan one... so when my dad suggested she may have been having a rough day because of the story getting on the news, I was a little confused as to why she would tell it again... so maybe that wasn't the reason she was upset. She did a really short encore. I also met MrBB outside after the show! HI! I hope you're reading this. Where are my guitar picks? *grin* I'm keeping my eye on the website! Lindsay ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Nov 2002 17:28:34 EST From: Dave0828@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] Jewel called bob dylan a fag Alrighty then, Let's clarify what actually happened. This was no different from any other time that she has told the story leading up to playing "Sometimes It Be That Way". Anyone who has heard or seen a recent live acoustic show that this has been said tongue in cheek - although I have to say that she has always said "He must be gay" and this was the first time that she had said "Dylan's a fag". But, she laughs it off and ever so innocently exclaims "I can't believe I just said that" - she says this each time. While I admit that this was a bit more risque than the other performances, I have to think that this was said while in a mood or with some assumption that the crowd could handle it. In fact, I have yet to hear anyone else who was there that night confirm or deny the story. But, I will tell you that the Page 6 story is totally inaccurate. She did not follow the comment with a presumptuous "Look at me" or anything to that effect. As this leg of the tour progresses I've seen her get a bit looser with her demeanor and language. Personally, I've found it to be quite refreshing. But, please get the facts before believing everything that you read. Does everyone here believe that she has anything but sincere respect for Bob Dylan? This was of course a very simple comment taken so far out of context it's ridiculous. By the way, I fail to believe any speculation that this is what had her so upset last night. At this point in her career she has to know to take the press with a large grain of salt. Later, Dave ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V7 #495 ***************************
