Okay, from what you are talking about, I'm guessing you are referring to an acoustic bridge peg. Do you have a string winder (it's a little crank thingy for turning the tuning knobs when replacing a string) ?? If not, I suggest going to your music store and getting one - they are usually a buck or two. Those will have a little notch in the front of them that fits perfectly under the round part of the bridge peg. You simply pop it off the guitar and you'll see a notch in it that looks like an old fashioned clothes pin. That's where the string goes. After putting the new string in it, you just push the peg FIRMLY back into the hole in the guitar. If you don't have a string winder, you can try and find something that will slide under the peg and pop it out (it just pops straight out), but be careful not to damage it.
