Last night's BBC radio 2 documentary featuring Jewel is available online for a week at the following link... http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/rpms/musicseries.rpm A summary of the show... "Paul Gambaccini investigates what's happening in different musical genres on both sides of the Atlantic - pop, rock, R n B, country, and also takes a look at the state of the music business. By talking to musicians, record executives and musical commentators, Paul will discover the recent directions taken in each genre and look for signs of creative regeneration and optimism or artistic decline. In addition to the discussion with his interviewees, Paul draws his own personal conclusions about the different forms of music examined in the series. Programme three: What's Going On In The Music Business? The sales of singles in the States have dramatically declined as record companies have abandoned the format to encourage album sales. Yet album sales have also dived. The spread of digital technology has sent shock waves through the music industry. The consumer's easy access to music files on the internet and CD-writing equipment threatens the traditional way of distributing music. Copyright issues regarding the ownership of recorded work are at the centre of future relationships between artists and record companies. How is the business - now dominated by three enormous conglomerates - reacting to this revolution? Paul discusses these issues with Jewel, Aimee Mann, Michelle Branch, Billboard writer Michael Ellis and EMI executive Tony Wadsworth. WOW!! he is increadible! i was so impressed. i had heard his one song "so unusual" and i fell in love with him. he is amazing live. i got the cd they were selling there, and it is wonderful! he has a very unique voice, for a guy... it is very feminine with a great sensitivity... he has really lose vocal chords, and a beautiful voice...hes just really really great. ok... on to jewel... WOW WOW WOW!!!!! this was my 6th jewel show, and with no competition, it was by far the best! the others were increadible as well, and all my favorites for special reasons, things that happend at the shows and such. but this one is my favorite just cus of the show and nothing else. she was in PERFECT jewel form! meaning, she was soooooooo hilarious i was holding myself to my seat! her voice was precise and very in tact, and she was in a great mood! i think ill cover her funny stories first... she said she was in a strange mood, so that was a great thing to hear! so she started off by chatting with us about her injury, someone ask how it was doing, so she said "lets just chat for awhile, im in a talkative mood", and boy was she. she would stop and talk for like 5 or 10 minutes every 2 or 3 songs. she mentioned quite a few things about her injury experience that i have never heard before. like how she had to take a vicadin, and she was high during the whole branding, and then she cried at the doctors, and she had to take pain killers but she found out she was alergic to them and threw up for hours in the bathroom, and she did a most hilarious demonstration of this!!! it was soooooooo funny to see jewel "hurling", it was great! later she told the mexico story, and a version with things i had never heard before, like the reason why the town was deserted was cus it had been evacuated due to the drug bust! and she went all into detail about seeing the situation with steve taking the pot from his point of view, it was hilarious!! oh, and the elimidate story was increadibly funny! she went into tons of detail with all of them. she talked so much during the show. ok... oh yeah, she was wearing a tight white tank top, and some really cool jeans! she looked to have trimmed her hair a bit, and she looked fabulous, and so happy! ok now on to the music!!!!!!!!!! HER VOICE!!!!!!!!!! WOW!! i was directly next to one of the big speakers, i had great seats, from where i was sitting there was no heads between me and jewel, technically in the front row... it was the corner first seat of the small bleachers right next to the stage, it was neat, i was to the side of her, which is an angle i have never seen her perform from, it was neat! ANYWAY! the music..... she opened with PASSING TIME which was a shock, i knew she had been doing it like almost every show this tour, so i knew it was comming, but i didnt think it would be FIRST! i hadnt heard that song in so long, and i had never heard it live, so that was awesome! she even sang boy needs a bike and DIDNT MESS UP!!! not even one line, she did that thing where she reviews the lyrics in high pitch to herself, like gray matter on jewelstock, it was really cool! in tribute to 9/11 she sang life uncommon followed by hands, which was breath taking. i was never directly affected by the tragedy, but during those 2 songs i suddenly really truely felt the heavyness of that day. and wow! hands was so increadible, she practiced it i think, she played it with a neat rythm. it was so awesome to have her all to ourselves on that day, the day when a year ago she was aked by so many shows to come and sing hands, and here we were on that day, hearing it, just for us few people... that was a very overwhelming thing. oooooooooooooooooh... the new wild west was spectacular too! god i love that song, wow... she did chime bells, and was in top yodeling form. gosh, she sang so many songs, and they were all so increadible. her voice is sounding so amazing. i think that her not playing guitar during the this way tour really added to her voice. cus now that she can play again, her voice is still holding like it was when she was singing without the guitar. anyway, she sang lots of songs, and all of them were remarkable. oh yeah, she sang vilolet eyes after hands, and that was a breaking point... she was a bit choked up and it was really emotional. sooooooo basically, this was an AMAZING SHOW!!!!!!!! and i cant wait to see her next wednesday in santa rosa!!!!!!!! ive been meaning to mention that in santa rosa at the luther burbank center, where she will be performing next week, they have up this ENORMOUS bannar, its like big enough to wrap around my entire house! it covers the whole front side of the venue faceing the freeway. i wonder what jewel will think when she drives up and sees that hahahahaha!! its is sooooooooo huge! i want it! storage could be a problem... anyway, im FINALLY done!!! i hope like 1 or 2 people read this, and if you do, then i wrote it for you! alisa the super duper happy angel! - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: Click Here ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V7 #417 ***************************
