This isn't always the case, but usually the label feels that they know more about the whole "market" than the artist does since they have lots of high paid guys who's job is to know that stuff. One of the funniest phrases I've run into when butting heads with marketing people is, "it's a marketing thing, you wouldn't understand." To me, that is total BS since I'm a potential "consumer" and isn't their job to MAKE me understand ?? On that note, I think many times that is the same problem with singles that are released. They tend to read into something too much. Instead of sitting there going, "hmmm, that's a decent song" or seeing what the fans think should be the next single, they start over-analyzing stuff. Things like, "does this provide a smooth transition from the last time they've heard her," or "can we get this played on a WB show." I agree that the singles especially from this album we fairly badly chosen. I really don't think there's a bad song on this album (though I like some more than others), but I think something like "Do You Want To Play" or "Serve The Ego" would show more of Jewel's expansion and growth as a musician instead of trying to keep that simple, "chick with a guitar" sounding stuff they are still trying to release. "Break Me" and "This Way" are great songs, but revert more to her simplistic stuff than her expansion into other sounds. Look at bands like Aerosmith who have been around well over 30 years. Their first album sounds nothing like their new stuff. Many times their singles are very well chosen (and from what I've seen in many "behind the scenes" stuff they are very pushy about what they want as a single) and show a different side and more growth. Many times you can tell exactly what singles will be released from an album when you buy the CD - just take a look at the sticker on it. For instance, when I bought the Shakira CD (the day it came out) it said, "Featuring: Whenever, Wherever, Underneath Your Clothes, and Objection (Tango)." Guess what the singles have been ? I think this is a little narrow minded since they aren't waiting to see what the comsumers like, they have their "strategy" all planned out along with all the CD covers and maketing materials done. Then they wonder why the music industry is sucking when it comes to revenue...hmmm. Okay, that's it...you can have the soapbox back now. This is a Jewel related list innit? I think as EDAs we should be discussing Jewel, Poltzie, SSC, HGH, Clearwater, jeweljk.com etc Fair enuff for the occsional NJC relating to another artist but not a digest goes by with the mention of Avril, Michelle, Vanessa or the like. I am on this list as a Jewel fan not these other artists. I don't like these other artists. As suggested start a sub group to discuss these people. Hey there everybody. If anyone has any spare (cheap) tickets to the 106.7 concert that Jewel'll be appearing in on October 1st, let me know. Only the most expensive tickets are left and I really didn't want to spend $250 plus processing fees just so me and a friend could see Jewel perform a song or two. Thanks.

i finally heard it here in georgia. they played it on magic102.1 for
anyone who lives in georgia, but they played the cd version not the
remix. i'm going find out their email so we can make sure they keep
playing it. i don't think we should give up on the song yet, especially
if when the video is done if they play it on mtv or vh1. anyway, on mtv's
sorority life they played "Break Me" on the episode where all the girls
get in trouble except for jessica, if anyone wants to watch it.

Hey everybody -

Does anyone have any idea if Jewel was on that show
"Pacific Blue" quite a few years ago? Someone told me
once that he saw her on it. I never watched the show,
but I've also never heard anyone else mention that she
was on it.

If anyone has a really good copy of one of Jewel's
recent ACOUSTIC shows and would like to trade, please
email me at ltclittlerosa@yahoo.com. I've got some
various things to trade.

Thanks!
