Okay, first, I wasn't trying to dis Avril or anything. But you can't say that Avril didn't turn out of the hug and kind of brush Kelly off. It's obvious that you're a fan of Avril's but don't defend her just to defend her. Maybe she's not a bad person, but your actions reflect who you are and whether she meant to be rude or not, she was. And it was obvious by the look on Kelly's face that she felt it too. And I doubt that Kelly smelled but whatever. And second of all, that was a quote that I'd read and if Avril did say hugs are special, it really has nothing to do with the first quote. Plus, Avril's been known to contradict herself. Last, if Avril's too good for people who aren't signed (like her fans for example!) then she's not someone that I can respect. I just wanted to bring up the Avril/Kelly/hug incident because people were praising Avril for winning the award and everything. Also, the Madonna quote rings true for you. I just came back from my Jewel concert in Vancouver. I don't have a big in depth summary of what she played, but i can truly say, she is the most amazing person on the planet. SHe was hilarious telling her little stories, and singing her songs. We got some Carnivore, Passing Time, Lemondrops. I met a super cool EDA along the way (ERIN) She'll probably write a way better report then me. ANd i got to meet *drum role* Lenedra. She is just so ...hmm.. non-chalant? YOu realize who Jewel takes after. Her presence is just....indescribable BUt ahhhhh!!!!!!!!..i can't express myself any better then that. This concert was everything i dreamed it would be and 10 times better. You haven't had a concert, until you've heard her solo acoutic. Shiet!! I don't want to sleep, cause i'm scared i'll wake up and realize it was all just a dream. BUt Anyways..Stuart (opening act) was truly amazing, i'd check him out! If you think Avril is a joke, why would you object so much to her winning an award from MTV? Where in "Best New Artist" do you see the words "Best Guitar Player/Singersongwriter"? To MTV fans...Avril Lavigne is the best new artist. Even if we assume that Best New Artist meant Best Musician, this opinion is still subjective. Keep in mind that whether it means Best Marketing Scheme or Best Artist...either way, it still pertains to MTV. There may be a fantastic, virtuoso-mini-Beethoven out there somewhere in Zimbabwe, but they are NOT on MTV. Avril is. As far as Avril brushing off Kelly, who cares? Why can't it be as simple as "some people just don't like other people?" Whether Avril was or wasn't rude doesn't matter. The end result only affects herself. If some viewers think she was rude, then maybe she'll lose some fans...if not, than no. The point is that the best musician isn't always the best artist. Jewel's guitar playing isn't the best in the world, but I wouldn't trade her simplicity and ability to utilize simple chords for knowing everything there is to know about guitar. Just because Avril's voice or Axl's voice isn't always on key doesn't mean anything. How often was Bob Dylan's voice ever on key or even understadable? Anyone want to challenge Bob Dylan's abilities as an artist? Some artists' strengths lie in their voice, some in their raw musical talent, some in their writing, and some, like Avril, in their charisma. Not being a virtuoso musician does not prove that Avril Lavigne doesn't deserve the MTV award. Unfortunately, virtuoso musicians are rare, and secondly, they do not always make the best entertainers. My main comment is that MTV has such a large audience and could promote some worthwhile, talented artists. What I'm angry about is that MTV have the chance to promote talented artists who can give something to this generation of kids. Instead they invite a bunch of sluts, thugs and bitches to win a bucketload of awards... along with a few token 'respected' artists like The Hives and The Vines, who will now never be mentioned by MTV again. That's my gripe. Avril can win all the kids awards she wants. I just wish the kids were exposed to better music so that she wouldn't even have the chance to.
