Michelle Branch gave a free concert today in Pontiac, Michigan (sponsored by Q95.5). She talked about winning the Viewers' Choice Award and how it was soo incredibly amazing and thanked us (the fans) over and over. She also told the story that she did in an interview after the VMAs about how she was so shocked that she won she forgot to thank her parents and friends and fans and how she's such a dork for it and feels absolutely awful. But she made up for it by thanking us first thing, right after she came out. I'm impressed that she made it for the concert considering it was the very next day (and she won)... and it was free at some small festival. She sang all of her 'radio hits' and a couple from her very first album. Oh she even did a new one and said she's been in the studio recording for a new cd. YAY for that. She ended with a New Radicals cover (can't remember the name). The other bands after here were a Red Wing guy's (again, can't remember the name) and then Live. Well, just wanted to share how she was the day after winning. Her performance was GREAT, she didn't act tired or anything. OH! A boy had a sign saying "Will you be my homecoming date?" and she talked on stage to him asking when it was. She said she was so focused on music that she never went to homecoming or prom. Then she said that she honestly would go with him if she was going to be here... but that she was sorry cos she'd be on tour with Sheryl Crow. Later he wrote on the sign "How about prom?"... she laughed and said she'd talk to Sheryl about moving the tour dates. It was very funny and totally cool how she interacted with the crowd. Anyways, I was also wondering if any Michigan EDAs were there. Did anyone stay for the other bands? I had to leave, hope they were just as good though. Take care everyone, Valerie (the just moved back from Australia angel) _________________________________________________________________ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 Aug 2002 03:28:25 -0300 From: =?iso-8859-1?B?Ruo=?= Subject: Re: [EDA] sweet home alabama OMG! It's a shame people have that mentality when someone who has written quality songs and made a brilliant album, and built up a fanbase without any gimmicks was also up for the award. Yes I'm talking about John Mayer. Avril may have talent, but compared to Mayer she's nothing. <> I should think that after doing 5 full-length shows recently, he would have managed to stay on-key. I saw him last week at the Leeds Festival and the show was pretty poor compared to other bands I saw that weekend like The Hives and Moldy Peaches. In fact, it was saved only by the brilliant Buckethead and his robotics. <> It's a shame it took such a bad song for them to win anything. I'd have much rather seen them win something for 'New', 'Ex-Girlfriend', 'Bathwater' or even 'Hella Good'. 'Hey Baby' is the worst song I've heard by No Doubt. Linkin Park winning was also a huge injustice. MTV obviously don't realise that there are *good* bands out there! Cheers, Tom. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 Aug 2002 12:24:59 -0700 From: "Marsi" Subject: [EDA] N.E.R.D. Guy People keep mentioning him no one says his name, so for those who are wondering, its Pharrell, he's one half of the dynamic producing duo known as "the Neptunes." ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 Aug 2002 16:48:15 EDT From: JewelWilcher@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] NJC: VMA's > < people have that mentality when someone who has written quality songs and > made a brilliant album, and built up a fanbase without any gimmicks was > also > up for the award. Yes I'm talking about John Mayer. Avril may have talent, > but compared to Mayer she's nothing.>> Well, I think the person who posted about being happy that Avril won, was just that. She likes Avril and was happy for her, that's all. I thought we settled that it was an opinion, there's no need to criticize anymore. And actually...if you think about it, your statement "Yeah, obviously if she's sold records she deserves an award" is true....not false, eventhough it was meant to be sarcastic. This is an MTV award. M...T....V. Avril Lavigne is not nothing...she isn't a virtuoso musician, but she's a multiplatinum singer with loads of fans that like her as much as you like John Mayer. Should the music industry be obligated to give an award to every artist who tries really really really hard? If so, then it wouldn't be the music "industry," it would be the music "cry me a river" association. - - Will ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 Aug 2002 21:35:07 -0300 From: "FabioJJ" Subject: [EDA] Jason Mraz and us!
