Can someone please send me the link to the Jewel Streeteam site so I can sign in again? I looked on the Jewel official site, but that's only to sign up...thanks. :) Lauren ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 08 Aug 2002 17:54:59 -0600 From: "Stacey Hamilton" Subject: Re: [EDA] Jewel vs. Bubblegum Pop But let's not forget also that Jewel's never been "glossier" than she's been on her current tour and CD...not even with Spririt. So the nonsense cheese comparisons are out of line because I'm sure alot of people could and are saying the same exact thing about Jewel now. Unless any of you can honestly tell me the lyrics for the song This Way compare even remotely to the lyrics for a song such as Nicotine Love. Give me a break. Yeah the AMV's songs may not have quite the lyrical substance as early Jewel or Tori or others like that, but that's just one aspect of what makes up a song and an artist too. And most of their songs are catchy as hell which is more than I can say for Jewel right now. Not that songs have to be catchy, but it certainly helps in remembering how they sound. Something I've had a hard time doing lately trying to remember certain songs off of This Way, or getting a few mixed up...they just all sort of run together...aside from the 2 or 3 stand out tracks. The real problem I think is that there are way too many opinions of everyone and people who are huge fans of all these artists we're talking about. So for every jab you hear about Avril, you're going to get 2 back about Jewel, and vice versa. It's to be expected. I just wish everyone would wisen up some and realize all of these artists are talented in their own way. If you don't agree, then YOU go out there and sell a million records. If it's all marketing and media and gloss, and catchy songs, then you go for it. I'm extending that challenge to any EDA right now. If you try that, and are successful, then I guess those talking about that stuff are right then. But until someone comes back and says they were able to do it, then don't go around knocking those who have....whether it be jealousy or just dislike. We can't all like the same artists. Some people think Ozzy rules, other's hate him. Some like the Stones, other hate them. Some like Jewel, others hate her. See the pattern here? If you don't like Avril that's fine, or whichever the case...but there's no reason to compare her or anyone to cheese or anything else. Just go about your business not liking them...that's fine. No one is really going to care that you don't, and they sure as hell aren't going to with the other millions of fans they already have. Just like I'm sure it doesn't bother Jewel alot if she hears of someone not liking her music. As if she cares. There are fans, then there are slams. Choose one, but don't go around publicly slamming artists. It's one thing to go and talk about a new artist or even an old one who isn't Jewel if the things said are of a positive nature. I think that's encouraged and does provide others with new options of music. But if you saw a post from someone saying Caroline Roberts (I just made that up) is a complete waste of time so don't get her CD cause it's cheesy trash, I just don't think that would send a very good vibe to this list, or any other. Show some respect for once. Afterall, this is a Jewel list right? I think she'd appreciate that. ~Stacey~ > >Although I haven't been on the list for a long period >of time, I definately agree with the below statement. >Avril, Vanessa, and Michelle are distorted mirror >images of existing artists (Alanis, Tori Amos or >Fionna Apple, Jewel). I think Michelle Branch has a >lot of potential, but right now she is bubble gum pop >like the other two. I like the songs I've heard by >all of these girls, however the jury is still out >about how much I like them. I think I will respect >their talents more if they are still around in a few >years... > _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Aug 2002 22:43:47 EDT From: Wigglytooth523@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Re: Old school EDAs Hey all, I guess Im an oldschool EDA- ive been here since December '97. At the time a realitively new Jewel fan, of just over 5 months. Ya'll have changed my life. Im a huge music fan, I attempted to learn guitar, started writing poetry and found a talent I didnt know existed. I agree the late-teeners are seemingly taking over the list, but its not a big deal. As for Michelle, Avril and Vanessa. Cut them some slack. They play their own instruments and write their own songs. Thats ALOT more then we can say for 95% of the 'local' talent here in Orlando. All their music sounds so similar its actually called the "O-Town" sound heck they even named a friggin' band after the cloned music. Okay Im gonna shut up before I get all Austin Powers on everybody. Jewel's album ROCKS! hey angels, don't give me any $h!t for this but come on! i am an old school eda, mostly lurking, but i have seen avril, michelle and vanessa. why are they such a topic here??? they are radio friendly two-hit wonder little girls who got lucky. ANGELS! Jewel is our girl. true, 'This Way' (the song) sux- but I don't think she has control over what is released or who is touring with her. The record label controls her tour, not her. and to tell yout he truth, M2M were no more entertaining than karaoke nite at the chinese restaurant down the road. Jewel's talent can not be compared...and you know what, Jewel is still around and in the media. where are the other lilith girls? just cause you are on mtv and you have a bunch of 12 year olds voting for you on TRL does not make you talented. britney spears is on the top ten for gods sake! ok- it is late and i have a buzz...just my $20 worth :-) Don't jump down my throat! I think that Jewel should release a rock album.. I mean one that has all her rockier songs that never made it... Honestly I think she would really make it big with some of these songs that she has that are unknown to all that are not die hard Jewel fans... I think the album should include: Carnivore Down Love ain't for lovers anymore Run tonto Run My one true friend Race Car Driver I really think that these songs all souped up and polished would make AWESOME radio hits... I know they have potential... then the album could also include songs like: Everything Breaks nicotine love Does anyone believe in love anymore Studies of love As like ballads or something crazy like that... I think a few of them could even be redone into awesome rock songs, like everything breaks, and studies of love. I just wish some of these songs would be heard. Please if you agree with me let me know, i just like to hear some feedback once in a while...
