OK enough of the cheese comparisons hahahaha creatively, their candles, even on their hottest moments, wouldnt even singe a rough edge on jewels creative abilities just my opinion alisa - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. Hello EDAs, Well, I don't think it's fair to say that Jewel could've easily made a call and stopped M2M from leaving. I doubt that Jewel had very much say in the decision at all. Then again, we also have to look at other possibilities. If Jewel did like M2M at all we don't know for sure. She probably was willing to help out a couple of girls trying to make it in the US, however, they may not have been what she was looking for. The purpose of Soul City Cafe isn't to give just anyone a chance, it's to give artists Jewel believes in a chance. It's very difficult to promote someone you don't personally believe in correctly and all that happens is you not only end up hurting them by not giving it your all, you hurt yourself by wasting your time. This is regardless of whether M2M is good or bad. They might've just not fit. I remember at Lilith Fair 1 I went to in Houston, Erykah Badu sang and it was a total bomb. Noone was into it at all...and that doesn't mean that she isn't good. She just didn't fit. As far as jumping ship...if M2M wants to, go for it. I don't think Jewel should or will be leaving Atlantic anytime soon. I think she's staying alive just fine while other comparable artists are hardly in the scene. Then again, Tori just jumped ship...and I'm not sure if this is true, but I heard Juliana Hatfield recorded a CD for them and they refused to release it. Ohwell. I just don't think any other record company would be willing to promo Jewel anymore than Atlantic. Tori Amos is at the stage in her career where promo is almost a non factor. The same people have and will continue to buy all her CDs and those new fans likely won't and didn't buy her CDs because they heard it on the radio. Once again, just my opinion. Thanks if you made it this far, - - Will "The Long-@ss-Posts Angel" ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Aug 2002 09:01:11 +0100 From: Padilla Donovan G SrA 727 AMS/CSS Subject: RE: [EDA] Re: SJC: Old School EDAs Now and Zen girl wrote: i think that they are this odd lower value form of say jewel, fiona, and alanis... a MUCH lower value. - -- I may be interpreting this wrong, but I don't think it's fair to say that AMV have a MUCH lower value than say, Jewel or anybody else. Everybody has their own value that is unique to that one individual. It makes it sound as if they aren't worth as much. We aren't ones to judge the value or creativity of a person. Creativity levels are the same as value levels--the creativity of a person is unique to that individual and should not be judged by another's creativity. Just my two cents on the subject... I've been a fan of Jewel since she first appeared in late 1994. I was quite young when I started listening to Jewel...I was only 12. I'm 19 now, so I've been a fan for seven years. The first time that I heard "Who Will Save Your Soul" I completely fell in love with Jewel (Just on a side note, WWSYS is still my all-time favourite song by Jewel). I'm not a fan of Vanessa Carlton, Michelle Branch, or Avril Lavigne. Not to offend anybody on the list that likes them. I actually liked Vanessa Carlton's song "A Thousand Miles" when it first hit the radio, so when her album was released I bought it. I was terribly disapointed in it. It is one of the worst CD's that I've heard. I think she is not necessarily a bad singer, but she just has this nasaly thing going on in her voice. The same problem with Michelle and Avril, they all sound so nasaly. My sister is actually a huge fan of Michelle, so I have heard her album quite a few times, and I'll say just one thing about...it's easy to write a song (lyrics) but it's very difficult to write an excellent song. So anyway I'll do the catagorization of my fave artists. While I don't mind people reccomending new artists and discussing things other than JEWEL, it really seems pointless to tell people about an artist who is played on TV 24/7. Now don't get me wrong I dont hate Avril either, shes from a town 20 mintues from me so I gotta support homegrown talent. But I'm starting to think that it's possibly the popularity/change in Jewel's music towards a more radio friendly sound that has attracted this more youthful type audience. Couple that with the emergence of the internet as the primary place most youths spend their time and the list was bound to gain some younger clientele pretty quick. Not that I'm saying I don't like what gets talked about on this list, it just seems (and ive only been a member for 2 years) that the list used to be more about fellow Jewel fans connecting with each other and sharing their love of their favorite Diva (HA>?!) than about whoring other artists or helping Jewel to win some Poll on an unknown website somewhere. Maybe I'm starting to sound old but I just, like Garry, miss the olden days when I would check my e-mail box and find a plethora of messages that didn't involve bickering, fighting, or talking about the latest fad on MTV. If it is true as previously reported on m2m's site and other places that Jewel personally invited them to open for her then it seems to me even stranger about Atlantic's actions. As far as it fitting ... we discussed this before the tour. Like it or not, they do share a section of the market. At our Jewel show there were more than one set of parents like me with their pre-teen daughters who were totally into both sets. My 13 year old was near tears from excitment of seeing M2M (since she never had and she's seen Jewel several times). My gut tells me given the financial problems some of the labels are in someone came in one day at Atlantic and said we need to save $250K by the end of the month how can we do it? Sending M2M home was probably just part of a much larger chopping block, especially since their single wasn't going anywhere. == Rob == ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 08 Aug 2002 09:30:26 -0400 From: TFace151@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] article in variety I was just wondering, I noticed in this artical about the new movie (WAVE) that they said "this way" is her 5th release for Atlantic.
