Well, not every performance is going to be as good as some. When you hear so many of them, you start to find some that aren't up to par with the 'better' ones. Sometimes that's a matter of personal opinion, and sometimes it's just a less than superior performance in general. That's going to happen with anyone...not just Jewel. And as for what I thought of the performance...well it wasn't something I'd watch over and over. In fact I didn't even tape it. It was ok...it was Jewel and it was something to watch her on, but it wasn't something that I'd put down in my list of must-have Jewel performances (and no I don't really have a list). And since I can be superficial with the best of them: I liked her outfit, she's lost a lot of weight but miraculously has not lost in the area that is usually first to go ;), I really didn't like the hairdo...she needs to cut it, lose the dye job, and get rid of that annoying side part, etc. And she's doing that "hey look, I'm trying to be sexy" expression when she sings. ;-) But hey, that's just my over-analytical side kicking in. lol. ;) I've just seen way too many Jewel performances over the years and I've learned to pick up on her different moods/personalities. BTW, remember "Shy Jewel"? What happened to her, and can anyone pinpoint exactly when "Confident Gal" took her place? Hmmm.... Amber Dawn Reed singer/songwriter http://www.amberreed.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Jul 2002 11:17:08 -0500 From: Amber Subject: [EDA] My review of Austin show/gathering I haven't seen many posts about the Austin show so I decided to add my own. Me and my friend Angela (who's not an EDA) and Derrick drove to Austin from Houston early to catch Luna's LRC at Will's house. Thankfully, Luna had waited up for us because we got there a little later than we should have. ;-) Luna of course sang beautifully. I really liked two of her new songs, "Frozen" and "Little Leaf". I enjoyed meeting the other EDA's as well. After the LRC, Sarah and a friend of hers, me, Angela, & Derrick all went out to eat and then to the Jewel show. We JUST made it in time for Jewel's entrance. In fact, if we'd been just a few minutes later, we'd have missed her entrance. Some of the EDA's did miss the first few songs because she came on stage earlier than expected. No one thought she'd be on until 9pm, but she just waltzed right up there around 8:30. ;-) And from my 3rd row dead center seat I had a WONDERFUL view. I couldn't have gotten a better seat. In fact, Derrick traded my friend Angela his 1st row seat for her 3rd row seat next to me. This was supposed to accomplish 2 things: Angela would be on the front row center for her very first Jewel concert (which worked out), and Derrick would have a view better for taking pictures (which worked out until the so-called 'camera nazi's' decided not only to make him stop taking pictures, but confiscated the camera as well). So all those wonderful pictures that we were getting are in the hands of one of those high-and-mighty, stuck-up security guards. But the concert was wonderful nonetheless (if anyone has pics of this concert and managed to keep their camera, please let me know). Jewel was beautiful and her voice was amazing. The venue was very intimate. It was called The Backyard and for good reason. It was like I was at a backyard barbecue with fold-out chairs set out in front of a stage. Couldn't get much better than that. And for such a strict camera security, there was a noticeable lack of ticket security. As we walked to the front, no one ever asked to see our ticket. We could have sat in someone else's seat and no one would have stopped us except the ticketholders themselves. Of course I can't believe how lucky we were to be at the one concert that Steve shows up at. :-) I had a feeling he'd be there (since he was off that day and doing a show in Austin the next day) but it was still a pleasant surprise to see him walk on stage. And Jewel's dad was amazing too. I'd never seen him perform live in front of me...only on Hard Rock Live. That was definitely a double treat...Steve and Atz. After the show we all went out to Starseeds to eat. Then Derrick, Angela, and I headed to San Antonio (Luna would be playing there the next day at Sarah's house) for the night. All in all, it was a wonderful weekend. I'm glad now that I was able to go to the Austin show. Originally I would have probably just attended the Houston one, but because of a conflict of schedule, I wasn't able to make that one and had to opt for Austin. Good thing. :-) (not that I wouldn't have liked attending the Houston show, of course) Amber Dawn Reed singer/songwriter http://www.amberreed.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Jul 2002 14:10:03 -0700 From: "Jewel Worshiper" Subject: Re: [EDA] standing still played on mtv..... im sure nobody noticed except us hardcore Jewel fans, hehe. While Jewel's This Way was getting pretty good adds at Hot AC radio for awhile, it has now completely dropped off the top movers list. It hasn't even charted yet, so if you people want to prevent it from bombing, call your Hot AC stations DAILY and request it. Hot AC is NOT a POP station. DON'T call your favorite station if it's known for playing Britney and Jay-Z. They WON'T have it. Think more Celine Dion, Sheryl Crow, Goo Goo Dolls.. Light stuff. Locate the number of the nearest station that plays that type of music, and call them DAILY. Get your friend to, also. scott.evans [[mind is DISCONNECTED. but my heart is WIRED.]] AOL IM: sevans112 . Hi I was wondering what you guys thought of Jewel having a concert on 9-11. On on hand, I say that's wonderful and I hope she'll do a moment of silence or have candles or something to pay tribute to the people who died, but on the other hand it is only the year anniversay and I know I probably wouldn't have fun at a concert on that day becuase too much would be going through my head. What do you guys think? ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Jul 2002 23:46:37 -0400 From: "Scott" Subject: Re: [EDA] What u think of Jewel performing on 9-11? Like I said in my post a few minutes ago, I think it's good for her. I'm not trying to be insensitive, but it's healthier to show strength and continue on with our lives than to ponder over and be frightened by the past. It's a great service entertainers perform by not backing down and giving people an outlet to forget about national troubles and concerns temporarily. scott.evans [[mind is DISCONNECTED. but my heart is WIRED.]] AOL IM: sevans112 . I know a lot of EDA's are also Mayer fans so I thought I would post to say just how awesome he was. He is such an awesome live performer he really feeds off the crowd. Also he tells a lot of stories and talks to the crowd a lot (if only I could have understood what he was saying. Also Guster was amazing. I hadn't really ever heard of them before but I guess they have a really big fan base. They were amazing and impressed me very much. It think I would have gotten more into them if I had known some of their songs. I don't know, maybe I am a bad American but I have problems still getting upset over the whole 9-11. Don't get me wrong I think what happened was a horrible thing and I grieved for a while afterwards and everything. But now I feel like I have delt with it and I don't see why everyone (including singers with busy tour schedules) should shut their lives down. I know a lot of people want to take the day in respect to the victems, but I think going on with our daily routine shows that America is too strong to be shut down by terrorism. Alright that is just my opinion- feel free to disagree. :) xoxo Ashley Staggers the sweet angel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Jul 2002 01:03:23 EDT From: DixieJewelAngel@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] What u think of Jewel performing on 9-11?
