It was definately a night never to forget. Anyways, my friend and I got the venue somewhat early and upon walking up we saw signs everywhere that said "no cameras" and the venue staff with the stick metal detector things. Since I had 3 cameras on me (two photo cameras and a video camera), I decided I wouldn't even atempt to get all of them in, so i took one camera and the video camera back to my truck and kept one camera in my purse. I was able to get the camera in, but i was pissed because i could have easily gotten it in. We saw Think of England first. They were a great band, but their live show could use a little polishing in my opinion. Then, of coarse, it was Jewel. There's nothing else to describe it but amazing. She really just captures the whole audience and it's so surreal to see how so many people in one room can be so quiet to her beautiful voice. Also, her dad, Atz came out and performed "Sweet Sixteen Lullaby" solo and then Jewel joined him for "Yo". Luckily, I was able to snap a picture of them together without the guards stealing my camera. But enough with that stuff, this has to be the biggest highlight of the night... After the show I went around the arena and found the tour buses (like a fellow EDA told me, thanks!) and i stood there with my friend to wait for Jewel to come out. I had Chasing Down the Dawn in my hand and my friend had the camera. After waiting about 30 minutes, a few of her and Ty's relative's came out, including Jewel's dad, Atz. About 15 minutes later, Jewel and Ty came out with the bodyguard. As Jewel was working her way down to where I was, I said hi to Ty and he waved to me. Then Jewel came down and signed my book. I told her she did an amazing performance tonight, she said thank you. After that I asked her if she would mind if I got a picture with her, she started to move closer to take a picture but her bodyguard quilckly said "no pictures!" and she said "i'm sorry, I can't" and continued down the way. Needless to say, I was bit wired for a few days. Overall, I can't complain one bit! I couldn't have asked for a better experience and thanks for taking the time to read this long e-mail. Unfortunately Jewel is not nominated this year although Standing Still was eligible to be a nominee. The nominees list can be seen at www.mtv.com. For those who didn't know, Jewel had been nominated in the past for a VMA. In 1996, WWSYS was nominated for Best New Artist and Best Female Performance, both categories were won by Alanis Morrissette (Ironic). In 1997, YWMFM won Best Female Performance, it was also nominated for Viewer's Choice and Video of the Year, but they were won, respectively, by Prodigy (Breathe) and Jamiroquai (Virtual Insanity). Does anyone have any idea as to when Jewel sang this song?. It is a beautiful song and she does a lovely cover version of it. I also found a version of "leaving on a jet plane "by Jewel and Bjork(an interesting combination). Again if anyone knows any thing about when this song was performed I would love to have a little more information about it. thanks. Also, her dad only did one song in Austin, whereas he did two in Dallas and Houston. And, her encore was only one song. Steve is recording an album in Austin right now, so thats why he was there, she knew he was there. Steve claimed that he LOVED Austin and he was going to move there from San Diego! They did that song about seeing a ghost.. not sure what its called. They did you were meant for me with steve's version (less girly lyrics...very funny) and they played at least one more song, but I don't remember so check the setlist on jeweljk. In Dallas, when someone held up a banner with nicotine love, she said, " oh, come out for the solo tour for that one, I just don't remember it and maybe I'll have brushed up on it by then" or something like that. Kind of ironic having a fundraiser for an organization called Clearwater and the fundraiser itself creates dirty water :-) Don't take this wrong, I think it's a great idea! Not sure if all of you have been listening to the new clips added to the jewel site, ones from the tour, but they are incredible. I was wondering if any of you knew what that song is that's playing when you click on "tour diary"?? It doesn't sound familiar to me, but I love it and was wondering if maybe it was a part of a song that I haven't heard. I also liked the one that was up last week, goes something like, "empty paper cup, all crumpled in your hand....." Anyone know what they are? Mike? Also, I agree with Rachel about the DVD for Nashbash. I had the privilege of going and it was one of the best things I've ever experienced. I could never thank the people involved and Jewel, herself, enough for allowing the EDAS to be a part of that. I also enjoyed a lot Edify's video (on Edify's page), they do some really good rock. All in all, these artists are all great and I'm so happy for Jewel to be giving them some spotlight. Jewel rocks!!
