First, I have to mention that it was one of the worst shows I've ever been to. Why the hell does the front row need to stand the whole time, when they already have the best seats in the place? There were a couple other people standing (one right in front of us) who were in more danger than they know. My brother was ready to assault the girl a few rows in front of us, but decided instead to simply yell at her the whole time to sit down. I have to admit that the setlist was superb (can't remember it all right now), but I can't say the same about the audio system. Several times during the show, the sound would completely cut out and the crowd couldn't hear a thing. Obviously Jewel was unaware of this, as she kept performing. I have never had an experience at show like that. If you're one of the people who gets a copy of the show, you'll hear what I mean. Unfortunately, the sound first went out during Violet Eyes and no one bothered telling Jewel about it--here she's singing her heart out and no one can hear it. I guess that's about it right now. I have a lot of mixing and editing to do before I see how good the show's going to sound, so I'm not taking requests right now. Maybe some one else recorded it. And Emily...sorry if I freaked you out by calling you the wrong name ; ) Eric L. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Jul 2002 06:17:25 +0000 From: "charlie zidon" Subject: [EDA] Minneapolis/best day of my life! hey all angels! I just got back home from my 6 hour drive home from minneapolis! Wheeew.... I am tried, but Jewel is still wailing in my head! I can't stop thinking about the concert! It was my VERY FIRST concert and I was in the FIRST row of the seated area to the left! IT WAS SOOOO PERFECT!!!!! Definately the high point of my life so far... I will try to go thru it... First off she started with IWWA... Which is nice, it is good to slowly get louder instead of starting with a bang! She followed that by her STILL POPULAR single, Standing Still, which we all know what it sounds like live, am i right?? With a great following by the classic rockin song, dywtp! Then she moved on to jesus loves you, which started off quite but ended up rockin up the room! I LOVE how that song progresses! After that she played hands, which was good, but no changes. Then there was TWROOR.... she sang it soooooo beautifully and then at the end she just LET'ER RIP!!!!! She belted out those notes like it was NOTHING! MAN it sent chills thru me! Following that she played her AWESOME ROCK REMIX of this way! And ended the first band set with a nice slow, what's simple is tru. NOW the SOLO set!!! She started off by playing, one of my favorite accoustic songs, Does anyone believe in love anymore. MUAH! Then she sang the sad slow violet eyes, which was beautifully done! And i am not sure with the order but the rest was Little sister, morning song, sometimes it be that way, you were meantforme, and OF COURSE the HILARIOUS YWMFM STORY! I get a kick out of it every time! AND THE BEST FOR LAST!!!!!!!!! She came back with her band and KICKED SOME MAJOR ROCK AND ROLL ASS!!!!!!!!! WONDERFUL! This was the GREATEST part of the show! She started with MY FAVORITE, LIFE UNCOMMON, (the highlight of my life!) where she took the mic off the stand and danced around the stage belting out the great song with sooooooooo much feeling and STRENGTH!!!!!!! Oh, it was WONDERFUL! Then she rocked out to down so long! Which is greatly done by this band! THEN ANOTHER HIGH POINT!!! THe new GREATEST SONG EVER LOVE AIN"T FOR LOVERS ANYMORE!!! The lyrics that i could make out to this song was GREAT and it is soooooooooooooooooooo hardcore rock! You could just feel the music pounding inside you! GREAT SONG! Then came serve the ego which was just wonderful, the music was awesome and I LOVE how they come back at the end and just jaM! With a great following by LMJLMA!!! ANOTHER AWESOME JOB!!!!!! Her scream was wondersful and her notes were right ON! She had ALOT of fun with this one as she always does, and then she also rocked out to everbody needs someone sometime! That was equally rockin!!!! Heart pounding NEW WILD WEST WAS NEXT!!!!!! The lights especially in this song were FANTASTIC and she had SOOOOOOOO much STRENGTH in her voice!!!! She just let us have it in this song! And then my FAVORITE CLOSER, WWSYS! She danced soooooo wonderfully before and during this song! I LOVE when she dances! And she just had alot of fun with it as always, This version was the GREATEST i have EVER heard of this song. I LOVED the ending! After a short break she came back out for the encore. She sang Foolish games and the other women, but that is NOT all! Before the other women she said "i shouldn't do this, but i am going to play a song i have never sung ever before, i just wrote the lyrics the other day" then she pulled out a crumpled paper with them written on it and the band played a rockin beat and she sang what turned out to be a great ROCK song!!!!! The chorus was something like "do you remember when we first met, darlin" It was just soooooo cool! LIke i said before, GREAT CONCERT!!!!!!!! The lighting was INCREADIBLE i have to give them credit it was just AWESOME! Also the security guards were VERY KIND!!!!! It was a good venue all in all! After the show I went to the back where a big crowd of people were waiting by Jewels bus. The security guards told us, if we were nice that Jewel might come and sign autographs so we waited like 15 min and sure enough she came over, but her guards were telling her she had to go, but she said she could do a few... she signed a girls autograph right in front of me.. I WAS TWO FEET AWAY FROM JEWEL!!!!!!!!! I didn't even care i didn't get her autograph when she at least was THAT close, I was too nervous, if she touched me i would have been a gonner!!!!!haha! She was so nice to come and do that! That JeweL! I would give you ANYTHING, *almost*, To have this concert on VIDEO/TAPE/CD.... ANYTHING!!!!! I would LOVE to hear it again, and to see it all again would be something else out of this world!!!!! We got one less than Minneapolis, but more than several past dates. I certainly wasn't expecting Does Anyone Believe in Love Anymore or Violet Eyes. Actually, several people must have thought the setlist was a bit too long, as the seats started emptying during the second band set. They were wonderful! Hey, did any EDAs get to see Jewel exit and get an autograph? There were two exits and I waited by the wrong one! BooHoo!! Oh well I had a great time either way!! Sorry I forgot to ask something in all my rambling! If anyone recorded the Chicago show can you please email me. There is nothing better than having a show you were at! I have been a very nice girl and got some address of people who didn't have any angel food at the concerts, including an adorable little girl, so that I could send them some. I am willing to trade or do anything for a recording of Chicago. Please let me know. Have a wonderful day everyone!!! Take care, Beth ps. James: sorry about sending you these emails directly to your email first, I forgot to change the Send to box from your email to the list address. Sorry about that. Subject: [EDA] Chicago show seating Does anyone know who those people were who had the "orchestra seats"? I didn't think those tickets were even available, so I'm wondering what their tickets said and how they got them. It's hard to believe they had a better inside track than we did. Eric L. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Jul 2002 14:04:01 -0500 From: "Rob Hanning" Subject: [EDA] Chicago seating/My Chicago story (long) I talked to 2 different couples who had front row seats last night as we were waiting at the backstage door. They had bought their tickets from "legal scalpers", one of which was www.ticketsolutions.com. One couple had paid $600 for their 2 tickets, and that was less than the guy was actually asking for them. That kind of thing really pisses me off...I don't know if the scalpers have an in at the theatre, or if the bastards signed up for our presale and snatched up all the good seats somehow before we could get to them. As for my story of the Chicago show last night... I got to talk to Stuart out in front of the theatre before the show. My friend & I were standing in line just outside the doors at about 6:15 or so, and I saw 3 guys who had that 'band member' look standing around down the sidewalk a bit taking pictures of the marquee. When I actually gave it a closer look, I realized that one of them was Stuart (the guitarist to Jewel's right). I went down, introduced myself to him, and we stood there & talked for 5 or 10 minutes. I had to thank him for the pick I caught at the Milwaukee show. )He took one of her picks off the stand & threw it out, and...it was so wierd...I just stuck my hand out, without even being able to see where the pick was really going. I closed my hand at about the time I thought it might get there, and the next thing I knew, the pick was between my fingers.) We talked hair...he just shaved his head not to long ago, and I've been shaving mine for about 4 1/2 years, so I was telling him a bit of what to expect when it starts to grow back in...He said he's going to be opening for her on a few dates of the acoustic tour, but it sounded like they'll be out west, so I won't be able to see them. He'll be getting on the Soul City Cafe thing soon, and there'll be a link to his site from there. After a few minutes, one of the other guys stepped up & told Stuart that he should get a picture of the two of us standing there talking, bec. he thought it would be a nice picture to have. I think perhaps they were just surprised to see someone who knew who he was, who was able to carry on a legitimate conversation...who wasn't just all googley-eyed over Jewel, or about getting to talk to someone who played with her, etc. (Or perhaps they just thought 'Hey, look at that fat guy...Stuart's really skinny...that'd be a funny picture to have! Who knows?) Anyway...Stuart introduced me to them...turns out they were members of M2M's band...the drummer & the bass player. So they took the camera, which was Stuart's, and took a picture of us standing together. It was kind of a surreal moment for me, bec. I don't generally like to be in pictures at all, and to have someone ask to take one of me was, well, just kind of odd, I guess. Then, as I said, I was among a bunch of people waiting around the backstage door after the show last night. We waited around about an hour, maybe, after the show was over, and then she & the band came out to get in a minivan (Stuart told me earlier that they were all flying to the next show at Red Rocks). She came over & started signing stuff for people, & I eventually worked my way to the front. I hadn't planned on doing the autograph-hound thing, so all I had with me was the little picture of my 'Fat Boy' sign that I carry in my wallet. I took it out, just wanting to show it to her to see if she remembered it. When I approached her, she automatically reached out & signed it, and I said "Do you remember that?" She stopped, looked at it, and (unless I was hallucinating) a smile of genuine recognition crossed her face. She smiled a big smile and said "Oh, that's right. I do remember that!" I told her that was me, and then she said, "I'm sorry I signed it...I'm just so used to having things shoved in my face." So now I have a signed photo of a signed sign! A bit strange, perhaps, but oh well. Now, despite my being a guy, and despite all the framed posters on my walls & the collection of clippings, etc., I have never been one to be really hung up on how "gorgeous" Jewel is. I got into her originally bec. that voice got into my head, and then I heard the song that put my life to music, and I heard the things she has to say about life in our society...that has always been what it's about for me. And besides, I'm not really into blondes. ; ) But I'll tell you, when she smiled at me last night...I just about lost it. There is so much ENERGY there, I almost couldn't take it. It makes me want to sit down & pick her brain, have a lengthy conversation about everything & nothing. Damn. Yes, the people who thought it necessary to stand up the whole time were annoying. And I was especially pissed when the sound dropped out during "Violet Eyes", since I've never heard it live before. But the sound was so much better otherwise than at the Milwaukee show that I wasn't too disturbed. And, all things considered, I think I had a pretty good night. It's gonna be hard to top that one, but I have at least 2 more shows left. That's it for me...I'll shut up now.
