Save The Linoleum came out before the Pieces Of You album was released (POY released February 1995) . I've seen copies of the fake STL with the Mike Halloran interview on it. That one typically also has on it "Sunshine Superman", "Under The Water" and the released version of Foolish Games (called "Bat version" on the disc), all of which were recorded well over two and a half years after Save The Linoleum was released as a promo. That particular fake even has a year 2000 date on it. I hope those of you that have purchased some of these fakes did not pay a premium price for them. It's really only worth what a typical bootleg might go for. Mike ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Jul 2002 19:18:00 -0500 From: "Rob Hanning" Subject: Re: [EDA] STL fakes As Mike said, it's a fake. I bought that years ago, but I knew at the time it was a fake...I just wanted to hear the stuff I hadn't heard before. The Mike Halloran interview was originally on a different promo cd, which had WWSYS on it, I believe. That was a good tip-off for me at the time that it was a burned copy, because I already had the original disc w/ the interview on it. The real question is...does anyone out there have a copy of the video part of the promo that was mentioned in that interview? They are not really "available". They ( "Phyllis Barnaby Finally Gets A Bra" http://www.quackquack.net/jewel/pbfgab2.htm and "Save The Linoleum" http://www.quackquack.net/jewel/stl2.htm ) were distributed via the normal means any promo CD is distributed, and this was over 7 years ago. Many are obviously in the hands of collectors, of which some collectors unload after a while (the CDs are not as "valuable" now as it they were in the 1997-1998 timeframe when Jewel was all the rage). Many are also in the collections of radio stations, magazines and newspapers as they are the main target when promo CDs are released. All you can really do is search the internet and used CD stores and who knows, maybe you will luck out. Beware of fakes though! Remember, the easiest way to tell the fakes from the real ones is that for Save The Linoleum, the code 3 PR 5999-2 SRC##01 is professionally etched (is a machine etch, not hand etched) on the music side of the CD, about a half an inch from the center hole. For Phyliss Barnaby Finally Gets A Bra, the etched code is 3 PR 6416-2 SRC##02. There have been other promo CDs hrough the years, but these two are the holy grails as they have more songs than the others, and well, they just are. The promo cassette tape Shiva Diva Doo Wop is rarer and much harder to find. I've never even seen one of those. Mike ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Jul 2002 22:23:33 -0400 From: "cymbaline" Subject: promo CDs (was Re: [EDA] STL) Promo CDs (of any artist, not just Jewel) can usually be found in used record stores, or on sites that sell such items. In record stores, they won't be too hard to find, unless it's something rare like STL or Phyllis Barnabee Finally Gets a Bra. It depends on where you live as well... some places have massive amounts of used record stores (where my brother lives in Berkeley, there were at least 2-3 within walking distance from his house), and some places don't hardly have any (like where i live.... none) "Work like you don't need the money, love like you've never been hurt, and dance like no one is watching." - -Bono ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Jul 2002 21:35:56 -0500 From: "Chris Stoke" Subject: Re: [EDA] STL yeah, I recently bought a copy of Save the Linoleum, and it is the fake one as well.
