My name is Tanisha and I'm a singer/songwriter from Toronto, Ontario. This Saturday July 6, I'll be opening for the beautiful Allison Crowe from Nanaimo, BC. As many of you will know, Allison is currently spotlighted on Jewel's site as one of her favourite up-and-coming artists. In addition, she was just taken on by India.Arie's reps to help co-manage her career along with her current manager. She's picking up steam (which is wonderful for an indie artist!), so I thought I'd tell you in case any Toronto Jewel fans are interested in coming to the Rivoli @ 9:30 pm to hear one of Jewel's faves! I think it's put out by Guitar magazine. There's alot of good artists in it...ones alot of EDA's like. Old and new. People like Avril Lavigne, Vanessa Carlton, Michelle Branch, Amanda Marshall, Sheryl Crow, Juliana Hatfield, Heather Nova, Miranda Lee (something), and MANY others. It's well worth the $4. I found some at Barnes and Noble. _________________________________________________________________ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Jul 2002 04:17:30 -0400 From: "Sandy" Subject: Re: [EDA] Toronto show observations >However, Steve >was being kind in assessing the sound during the concert. Basically, the >sound was a total disgrace. For a venue such as Massey Hall, which is >reputed to have as high a calibre of acoustics as Carnegie Hall, it was a >real shame. The sound was just awful for M2M, and while it improved for >Jewel, there is no excuse for the mediocrity of it. I was at the Toronto Show, and if you were right behind Steve, I was only 3 rows in front of you, and I would not have described the sound as "awful" *at all*... while there were a few points when the sound wasn't right on key, they were fixed very quickly. What about the sound did you find particularily bad? The instruments were all at good levels, none drowning out the other, her vocals were at a great level, I thought it was pretty good, sound wise. I've been to many concerts, in small intimate venues, huge stadiums, and outdoor festivals, and I've heard some pretty bad mixes and such, and this definately wasn't one of them (like I said IMO) I'm just really surprised to read this. My boyfriend is a in band that performs a lot, and they tend to be very picky and have had some complete sound *nightmares* and he was with me at the concert, and he agrees that it sounded great, for the most part. >The >only other thing that marred the show was, as Steve pointed out, the >completely incomprehensible decision to have an 11:00 "curfew", which >seemed to surprise Jewel as much as the rest of us. She had obviously >been planning on a much longer show for us. It wasn't a completely incomprehensible decision to have an 11pm curfew...it's the *law*, unfortunately, it had nothing to do with the venue or such at all. The 11pm curfew is for noise violation of any kind, and most cities have a curfew of this kind, even if it's a little later. If Jewel had decided to break the curfew, she would have had to pay ENORMOUS fines because of it. I also wouldn't say she had been planning a "much longer show"...she was already on her way out for the encore when she informed of the curfew, and she's been singing 3 songs for her encores on this tour, so as much as it sucked to miss *any* chance of performance, it was on two songs we ended up missing. ~ Sandy ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Jul 2002 04:23:53 -0700 (PDT) From: boyCradle Subject: [none] DAMN IT! Most of the time, these people were just staring straight ahead...not even clapping. I'm like...??? >> Dull? Not in Boston, we were on our feet for the whole show. From the very start the place rocked. Two day later in Wellingford CT, people were doing just like you said, but about half way into the show Jewel said "its okay to enjoy yourself you know " or something like that, They got into it after Jewel told them enjoy. That was the best concert so far this tour. SHe came out kinda quiet and stuff and said she had a sore throat so i immediatly thought "oh great... she isnt going to even talk to us" BOY WAS I WRONG! we ever got her to play race car driver, and carnivor. Someone even requested boy Needs a bike. Im not sure who it was but she heard them because she repeated it. (although didnt sing it)People were walking to the stage all night and lyaing down roses. it reminded me of like some goddess and these people were presenting offerings. (do NOT read JEWEL IS A GODDESS let's not start that again lol) She then says "So, how about somethign from the first album? im sure you paid money to hear stuff you know right"" AHhhh!!! no!!!!! lol Ummm what else. She told stories alllll night long. Lots of fun. the entire audience was on their feet the second half, i mean even the lawn people. after the show, Me, Gina, Cierra, Sheila and Rickianne (sorry about spelling ;) went around back and got t-bones autograph and talked to him. Jewel lef ton the tour bus to go to the airport we think to go to texas for the holiday. So that is what the bus driver said anyway. So we got a group picture, and a wonderful time. I do have a lot of really great pics, which i will scan later and give the link. Yahoo has a think so people can buy them. i will do that as well. they are pretty good this time.
