It's much easier to be spontaneous and change the song on the spot when it's just you. With 5 other people on stage, much more practice and coordinating are involved. Jewel just uses it as a default- she had "SIMPLE" on there but didn't play what's simple is true for example. She was wearing red high heels that were tall and long and flat and pointy like boots. I had seats about 30 feet to the left of her in the seats right behind the floor/tables so it was clear from my viewpoint. That blacklight sure is powerful though if you're up near the sides of the stage. It's a spooky distracting purple laser-like glow. I noticed my wife lighting up in her white top and finally figured out what it was :-) If you want the setlist the roadies don't mind giving it away or grabbing a pick for you or whatever. Just get there early after the show since that stuff goes pretty quickly. From what I've read of her set lists thus far, she believes in them this tour..." I think when you're working with a band, you have to have set lists. When it's just you playing solo it's not as important to be on the same page as your band members... I'm sure Jewel still finds ways to diversify, like changing around lyrics a little bit. Personally, I like to have a set list as a frame of reference when I play, even if I change it around a little. But, my impression is that with a band, a little more planning is necessary _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Jun 2002 13:29:28 EDT From: DixieJewelAngel@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] Jewel's set lists the band started to play a song, dont remember which one maybe what simple it true..then she was like no i wanna play you were meant for me, and they kept playing it and she was like do you have a hearing problem over there haha...so, maybe sometimes she does go a setlist and sometimes she just plays what she feels like playing ~Michele "CuSsInG, I'D ReALLy Like To QuIt. Anyone whose seen them, how were they? What was your overall opinion? Better or worse than expected? Has anyone gotten to meet them? How are they in person? And I know some people have tried requesting songs for Jewel to play, but I read that she turned them down, so has there ever been a case where she DID play a song that was requested? I'm not counting ones that were already included in her setlist. I just want to know if it's a waste of time to request songs or not. I mean, I was thinking she really couldn't do it as easily now with the band since if they don't know that particular song, they couldn't play it. Jewel could at least attempt it though if she was solo, and was provided with the lyrics. So has she done anything like this so far? I know it's early in the tour but now's the time to find out these things. _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Jun 2002 15:12:16 -0300 From: "FabioJJ" Subject: Re: [EDA] "This Way"/ video Maybe the video will feature images from both Enough and Life or Something Like it, hehe... I'd like to hear what others use, too. I use a Sony minidisc walkman (model MZ-R30) hooked to a pair of The Sound Professionals binaural microphones with their optional battery pack. It produces some fairly decent results, but the recordings generally require quite a bit of mastering before they're "good". For mastering and editing, I use Magix Audio Cleaning Lab. But not as a jewel song... but as a song in itself. Its catchy, and is radio friendly. But who am i to be saying that? i hardly listen to the radio anymore, because I usually listen to my CDs and unknown artists. But I do know, as a JEWEL song it does her no justice, and it doesn't show off her true songwriting ability.
