Why even use the flash? Most seats are too far away for the flash to be effective, and will just wash out your photo. So, just turn your flash off, or use a throwaway that does not have one, and you'll not have a problem.. The stage lights are bright enough for the photos of Jewel to come out okay. just a thought, Rowdy (Ps, if your camera has red eye reduction, or passive auto-focus a lamp may shine anyway, so play with your camera before hand to be sure....) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Jun 2002 09:14:20 -0300 From: "FabioJJ" Subject: [EDA] Listen to Jewel's new single You guys can listen to Jewel's performance on the Early Show in Windows Media Format here: http://jewelkilcher.servehttp.com/tv_apps.asp?early1 This site is awesome! Remember, the doctor said that strumming was forbidden. At the Orlando show, I was yelling for "God's Gift to Women", but that's also not really a fingerpicking song now that I think about it. So a suggestion for those going to future concerts: when she asks what you want to hear, don't pick something with strumming! Those who don't play guitar may not be able to tell, but as a generality, if you hear individual strings ("You Were Meant For Me" and "I'm Sensitive" are good examples), that's fingerpicking. It may often be the slower songs, but as "Cold Song" proves, that isn't always true. Their website doesn't say a thing about policies. A lot of tickets will state no camera's/no recorders for certain venues, but the tickets don't say anything like this for this concert. Just wondering? For those interested, there is a picture of the inside of the venue on the Chicago Theatre site. Also, I saw a broker site selling tickets to many Jewel concerts. I looked at Chicago and noticed there is a PIT section with rows AAA, BBB, CCC and DDD. This isn't even shown on the seating map. The first row shown on the map is row AA on the main floor. Does anyone familiar with this venue know if these sections are truly in front of the main floor and if there is actually a PIT section? The picture on the Chicago Theatre site doesn't really show enough to know. I'm hoping my CC seats are truly 3rd row seats. Thanks for any information. In fact, I rarely have much interest in so-called "mainstream" popular music. I *am* a hardcore Frank Zappa fan, and have been for many years, so Jewel is really something of a departure for me. (My last musical departure of this magnitude was Junior Brown, whom I still enjoy very much.) I had never really paid much attention the few times I heard Jewel on the radio. However, one night I happened to catch the last part of Jewels appearance on Austin City Limits (which I realized later had been taped some time ago), and I was really blown away. After that, I began to take notice of any appearance of Jewel on television. I particularly enjoyed those time when it was just her and her guitar, such as a late night talk show performance of New Wild West. I have since purchased a Jewel CD. I had no idea which one I should try first, so I got what seemed to be the most recent, "This Way." While I certainly do enjoy it, and have several "favorites" on it, I find that what I still really want is a tape of that Austin City Limits performance, of which I only saw a portion. I thought it would be easy enough to just go the ACL website and order a tape of that show, but I was sadly mistaken. The only thing available was a compilation, with Jewel only one performer among many others in whom I had no real interest. Can anyone tell me if there is some way to obtain a tape of that performance? There's always something special about having a copy of the first performance of an artist to "win you over." If it is impossible to get a copy of that tape, does anyone have any recommendations as to what would be available as the next best thing? I had no more luck finding tapes of Jewel in concert than I did finding the ACL appearance tape. I am unlikely to ever see Jewel in concert, as very few major artists come to the Rio Grand Valley. The closest she is likely to appear is perhaps San Antonio or Austin, which are five or more hours away, and which makes it a much more expensive proposition for a relatively poor person such as myself. Also, I'm curious to know if there are any other hardcore Zappa fans who also enjoy Jewel. Am I the only one?
