Seat is second row, Section C (from the chart I think the actual seat is pretty close to even with the center of the stage.) Contest: Well, I am having to work weekends, and have to choose between several things, and this time Jewel lost out. When deciding which activities to leave out of my summer I had to think back to other EDA events I've been to and the fun I've had in the past. I remember coming out of the port authority bus terminal in NYC, standing among the stream of people with my backpack, trying to get my bearings. Being in a new place, with no idea of what was around the next block, not really knowing where anything was located was very exciting to me... Had there not been EDAs expecting my arrival, I might have spent my entire trip wandering the streets exploring. That is what I want to hear about... Send me an interesting story of an adventure you've had in the past. It doesn't have to be about an EDA trip.. just something true and interesting... I'll pick the one I like best and send the ticket to the winner. Rules: Must go to the concert, or be willing to give the ticket away to someone that will. Must promise not to sell the ticket for any price. If unable to attend, the agreement is that the winner will give the ticket to someone who will, or back to me so I can get another interesting story( ;-) ). While not strictly a rule, I would ask that if possible, if the winner already has a ticket to this show to give it away to someone else that could use it. Anyway, there is the contest.. please put "contest" in the subject since I get lots of spam. I agree that in one way it's hypocritical to chastise Jewel for her production yet commend others for theirs. However, it is still different in a way because Jewel was originally "packaged" as an acoustic folky rags-to-riches songwriter. Michelle and Avril, however, were not sold as such...ever. Most all songwriters, if they are just playing a solo acoustic guitar and singing, will sound similar to Jewel (provided they are playing similar styles). If Michelle and Avril were doing such, they probably would sound a lot like Jewel. However, add the band and the production and you have a more polished, rock'n pop sound. It's not bad...they are still songwriters, just 'packaged' differently. There's nothing wrong with variety. Some people criticize the music business for having too much of the same thing (when that 'thing' is a style they themselves don't like), yet at the same time they criticize artists for not being more like the style they prefer. In a way, that's saying that the music business should lean more to your own tastes rather than pleasing everyone. And I admit that I get upset about the over-saturation of candy dance pop & R&B hip hop blends (or whatever you call them) in the music biz, but people do like it so to each their own. I would however prefer there to be a bigger variety of styles. I personally like Michelle, Avril, & Jewel. Most artists who write their own stuff appeal to me. Not all though. If they are R&B, hip hop, or the like, then I don't really care for that. But many of them don't write their own stuff anyway. Also, I think it's really not good to call something 'garbage'. It's not garbage. I like it and so do many others. Just because you don't like it doesn't make it garbage. It may seem that way in your opinion, but that doesn't mean it actually is so. I of course admit that in my opinion rap is a load of crap and most raps are about the same damn thing anyway: 1. Shagging ass-shaking babes 2. Giving a holler to the old neighborhood 3. Showing off their 'threads' and their 'ice' 4. Going platinum To me they seem like yesterday's garbage, but hey, one person's trash is another's treasure. I may not get it, but someone does. As for Jewel, there's nothing wrong with changing over time. We all change over time. Jewel never really did seem to like being called a 'folk' singer anyway. And to stay stagnant in this business is suicidal. People get tired of the same ol' same ol' after a while.
