I started on this list back in 1995 before we called ourselves EDA's. I left around the end of 1997 because I just couldn't find the time to participate. Well, after 7 years of waiting, missed opportunities and bad timing I will finally get to see Jewel in concert. She is coming to this out-of-the-way little town called Missoula, Montana, where I work at the University. This is part of her solo acoutice tour, which is perfect because that's the way I remember falling in love with her music. So, there is lots to prepare. First, I have to get all my lyrics printed out, because I WILL be up front shouting for Jewel to sing some obscure song that she can't quite remember. I have to make sure my Jewelstock t-shirt is ready for signing. But, most of all, I want to ask if there are any of you who will be going to that concert. Anyone? I encourage every one of you to go out and buy Avril Lavigne's CD. It came out yesterday so I went out to get my copy ($9.99 at Best Buy!) and it totally blew me away! Every single song is either an A or A- in my opinion. I like alot of artists but this is honestly the best CD I've heard, I mean from the first track all the way to the very last one...in years. One after the other...the most consistently good songs of any CD I've purchased in a very long time. I actually look forward to hearing every song. Can't say that about too many other CD's. She'll make her late night TV debut tomorrow night on Leno for those interested. And next Thursday she'll be on Craig Kilborn's show. Look for her tour later this summer! The first track will knock your socks off...it has the perfect sound and punch to it. Her voice has this very soothing sound, sort of hard to describe but like a natural warmth that goes far beyond her years, and it's quite apparant she can actually *sing*. No high screeches or anything of that nature and no scratchy sections. There are a few all out rock sounds...crunchy guitars, etc. and there's a punkish sounding song, then there are a few more pop sounding songs (but very well done) and then a few more mellow/ballad type songs....all very good as well.
