My gawd! jewel always has done really long setlists. at all the concerts ive seen her at she has done atleast 20 songs, usually around 25... i guess you get used to doing it that way when you start off doing 4 hour sets in coffee shops. last night i watched that cleveland video so many times!! i love it! thats how they should make her real music videos! someone mentioned jewel crying during foolish games in barcelona... well, i wouldnt be surprised if she did. she can get so emotional during that song. the first time i saw her in concert, during the spirit tour, and she sang that, she looked so sad, on the verge of tears. and her voice kept crackling like she was getting a bit choked up. and at the end when she pauses for a long time before the last line, it was so quiet, all you could hear was the piano and people saying in soft voices "i love you jewel"... that was a great moment! but jewel always says shes just really dramatic. and there has been lots of talk about nicotine love lately... its one of my all time favorites! boy if she sang that song at some point this tour i just hope i get to hear it one day. just imagine how great it would sound... her voice has been so perfect lately. the first time i heard that song it brought me to a new level of respect for jewel. i didnt think i could like her more than i did... but that song changed so much... it gave her a whole new agressive feeling to just about everything i had seen in her... and i love it! the new wild west does that too... as does a really great version of sometimes it be that way, as well as damn the daisies... a lot of her really lyrical songs do. well, i just thought id shove all i had to say into one post... alisa - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: Click Here ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 01 Jun 2002 08:36:33 -0400 From: Mike Connell Subject: [EDA] FWD: JeweLink: May 31, 2002 Here is the latest issue of JeweLink, directly from Jewel's "people", if you want to get a copy of this directly as each issue comes out, you can sub- scribe to it by sending a blank email to join-jewelink@list.jeweljk.com ******************************************** JeweLink - The Official Jewel Communications List ******************************************** JeweLink: May 31, 2002 In this edition of JeweLink: ***JEWEL SOLO TOUR ON-SALE UPDATES ***UK RADIO BROADCASTS ***JEWEL AND LENEDRA ON CNN THIS WEEKEND ***UK SINGLE RELEASE REMINDER ***BITES & BAUBLES PHASE THREE - ONLINE NOW ***CLEARWATER PROJECT UPDATE ***NOTES FROM MrBB ******************************************** ***JEWEL SOLO TOUR ON-SALE UPDATES Over the past week, a lot of new on-sale ticket information has been posted on the www.jeweljk.com calendar regarding Jewel's solo tour later this year. Roundabout Outdoor brings fresh water to communities through Playpumps. These are children's merry-go-rounds situated on top of a borehole. As children spin, water is pumped from underground into 2500-liter tanks, standing seven meters above the ground. Billboards, carrying consumer and health messages to the community, screen the tanks, which are situated in schools or community focal points. This project offers businesses a method to achieve social responsibility in their communities by participating in an environmentally sound water-health program, while at the same time accessing a powerful consumer-marketing tool. Revenue received from advertising billboards guarantees funds for ongoing maintenance and sustainability of each Playpump installation. The ClearWater Project, working to improve the quality of life for millions of people, funded this particular pump. She's also worked up a few new jazz-flavored covers that have surfaced during her encores lately. If you enjoy checking out Jewel's setlists, visit the setlist page at Jewel's web site which is linked from the calendar page. Following the remaining shows in Europe, Jewel and band will return home for a bit of rest before launching the North American Tour in Tampa on June 14th. We look forward to seeing many more of you this summer. I want to start off by saying that I like Jewel. I like her so much I paid and attended both of her Tokyo shows... Since I did do this, I noticed some things about her show... 1.) I saw Jewel in Indianapolis in 1997. That was what really got me hooked. She was chatty, she yodeled, it was just really awesome. Both nights in Tokyo, she seemed really detached from the crowd. Granted that chattiness would not be understood by 90% of Japanese attending the concert, but still. Maybe it was jet lag, but it was like she was some place else a lot of the time on both nights. 2.) Both nights she did Foolish Games. The first night she was so into it, I thought she was going to cry. Then she did the song a second night, with very much the same emotion. Did Jewel learn a little more acting than we thought during Ride with the Devil, or was she being sincere?? Now we hear that she was crying in Barcelona too?? Just makes me wonder. 3.) Jewel did act like herself during her acoustical solo time during the middle of the show, and when she started rocking at the end. So not all was lost. And she yodeled one of the nights. I still like Jewel, and I know that the thread has already gone around that maybe she is "losing it." Based on "This Way" I would say she is not losing her edge in the talent arena, but maybe she's getting sick of being a rock-n-roll star... And this Tokyo experience may have been a lot of things. That is a looooooooooong flight away from family, friends, etc. on Easter weekend, even... So, maybe her detachment was warranted. I only saw her that one time before in '97, but it was so different. Maybe my memories have exaggerated themselves about that "virgin" concert too... Ok. I'm done babbling now. The first time was at Lilith Fair in 1997 in Milwaukee. It was a sold-out shouw, witha bout 25,000 people there. And when she sang You Were Meant For Me, the ENTIRE venue was singing it too! She only sang a few lines, and the audience did the rest. She just sat there with a huge smile, and you could see her wipe the tear away. (anyone here at the show can verify this!!!) The second time was also in Milwaukee, in 1999. When she came on for her 1st encore of Absence of Fear, the piano player restarted the song about 10 times becuase the cheering and applause hadn't died down yet. I did not actually see a tear, but you could tell by the look on her face. Why does she do it? I know I would if I had even one person pay to see me sing and they knew the words to my songs!!!! Love you Jewel!!! Still down to earth after all your success! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 01 Jun 2002 10:04:20 -0700 From: Paul Yap Subject: [EDA] RE: vancouver concert Ahhh so on the jewel website it said that her tickets for the vancouver show would be selling today (june 1st) So i wake up early, get the phones ready, search ticketmaster for info, and.....nada!
