Funny you should mention aliens. The series finale of the X-Files was on Sunday night (two hours of pure drivel, only serving to set up the next movie). But of far more interest is an email that Chris "the Dashing Harris Sidekick" (tm) Moynihan sent me last summer, with the subject line "Is this who I think it is?". The gist of it is in this URL link: http://www.100megsfree4.com/farshores/ufoam.htm For those of you who are too lazy to surf-and-read, the online web article chronicles the discovery of the body of Merlyn Merlin II, aka "the Ambassador to the Aliens", whom the EDAs and I met out in SoCal in 1997. The EveryDay Angels Foundation was incorporating that week, and we held a "launch" concert at the old Java Joe's, where Jewel often played. Dozens of EDAs had spent the week with the Moraleses, and we actually went to a women's battered shelter to spend our Thanksgiving Day. We planned to celebrate Thanksgiving dinner together instead on that Friday. Apparently Jewel was going to drop by to eat lunch with us, until a rather bizarre guest arrived. The "Heaven's Gate" cult suicides had occurred nearby only weeks before, and we had already joked that we should avoid wearing purple Nikes and appearing too strange as a group (a situation we have frequently encountered over the years ;-) Well, sure enough, a group of nine TOTAL strangers arrived. All were members of some new age group, led by a very old woman from the Appalachian Hills. They had with them a stray they had picked up the night before -- Mr. Merlyn Merlin II, interstellar liason, decked out in a blue blazer covered with various yard sale medals. All in all, I've never seen the EDAs quite so freaked about anything, and most took to lurking in the back yard. For two hours I ran interference with the ambassador and his friends on the front porch, serving as a sort of "Harris defense" against the weirdness. Of course, we covered a range of topics, from interstellar politics to "sex majik" (his topic, not mine). I had sarcasm fired up to DefCon Level 1, but it didn't seem to faze any of them... Anyway, Merlyn told me of his first encounter with Alien Commander Ja-Rod, and showed sketches of the alien, whom he had befriended. Merlyn then described how Ja-Rod was currently wearing the skinsuit of an earthling and posing as an old man outside Las Vegas. He also had several Nevada legislative documents designating the Extraterrestrial Highway (Route 375) as the "welcome wagon" for incoming alien visitors. I recently came across these documents, as well as Merlyn's business card, which reads: - ------------------------------------------------------ THE CAPITAL EMBASSY SAUCERIAN CONSULATE Ambassador in Chief Lady Seraphin Isis II Mr. Ambassador Merlin II From the Ancient North Star Draconis in the Milky Way Ambassador to the United States of america The address was in Miracle City, Nevada. I'm omitting the phone numbers as they are likely on a need-to-know basis. The last line reads: "The Las Vegas Embassay for the Saucerians", followed by a phone number that is most definitely on a need-to-know basis ;-) - ------------------------------------------------------ As they left, Merlin tapped on his communicator (yes, a Star Trek model), requested permission to beam up, gave me a knowing smirk, then drove off in his 1976 brown and white Monte Carlo. That night at the Java Joe's Foundation launch show, I saw Merlyn again and walked over to say hello. The guy definitely had some problems as he didn't seem to remember me whatsoever from our encounter less than six hours earlier in the day. The bizareness continued throughout the evening, of course. The characters really came out of the woodwork THAT night -- and I don't mean the dozen or so performers (aside from Gregory Paige, of course :-) As a sidenote, Jewel showed up later in the evening, singing several songs (which are included on the EDAF Launch at Java Joe's tape series) and serving up some coffee. Old habits die hard, I guess. Too bad she didn't slip on her kewel-jewel jammies and stay over for the Java Joe's "pajama jam" sleepover, though. All said and done, Merlyn was an interesting character. Now what IF he was a little less crazy and a little more "in the know" than we are willing to accept? It seems Merlyn was actually very well known around the Nevada statehouse, and even appeared on national television numerous times, including the Larry King Live show. The truth (and many, many lies) are out there! From the depths of the J-Files, Dennis "Question the obvious, accept the obscure" Harris (I also met another nutcase that evening, who also handed me his card, which I also still have... it reads: JASON VIERLING Pager Number XXXXXX Rule 1: Don't sweat the small stuff. Rule 2: It's all small stuff. Rule 3: Know I'm your friend. Student and LA Kings fan. Now he's DEFINITELY a brother from another planet! ;-) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 May 2002 23:12:12 -0700 From: "heartbroken 4LiFe" Subject: [EDA] HAPPY B-DAY TO JEWEL!! Hey!!
