She is one of the core early EDA's and has organized a lot of very positive EDA events to raise money and awareness, clean up the environment, etc. She has also been incredibly supportive, sweet and encouraging to other aspiring musicians on the list. She's come to a number of my gigs in the city and brought people which I really appreciate, organizes really cool events like the iceskating thing last January. All in all she's a keeper, a very kind person. Then there's Tammy, and lots of other longtime EDA's who've done a lot to promote Jewel and EDA spirit. And of course Mike who runs the darn list. I don't think it has anything to do with Jewel being different from herself, it has more to do with Jewel trying to fit in with the sound of American radio. However, since none of This Way really fits in with what American radio is like today, I have to say it'd be really neat if Jewel released Serve the Ego. LMJLMA is too country-sounding at the beginning and just way too left-field for programmers to catch onto... but Serve the Ego MIGHT work... and it'd be a REALLY cool video. I still stand behind the fact that Do you want to play is the only song that has a chance of success on radio at this point.... but if she released Serve the Ego I'd be happy about it... just cause it's a fun song and the video would be awesome. I don't think I need to go into great detail about all the things he has done for us, but we all know he's figured out how to solve some of our fights, he's helped us keep in contact with the JTeam, and he's just been incredibly helpful in general. He deals with huge amounts of questions a day, I'm sure, but I doubt he gets many thank-yous. I think this would be a good way to show him how thankful we are for the time he takes to run the list! So I guess it's still "around" somewhat. Granted it was at 4:00am. >That new No Doubt song is a massive hit, and I >haven't seen No Doubt's record company promoting it in any huge > >significant way. - -------------------- That's because it's catchy, and doesn't need huge marketing behind it...it's doing that on it's own. I've liked that song ever since I had the CD...even more than the first single. It was a good choice to follow up with Hey Baby. Break Me is too mellow, slow, and just boring for something to be on the radio. It's a nice song to hear live with that whole vibe going on, but not when you're crusing home from school or work in the afternoon...it's the last thing I'd want to hear while fighting the traffic. I mean, it's almost depressing sounding actually, and the video doesn't help. People are looking for more uplifting songs these days, or so it seems. Do You Want to Play I think would be a good choice, as well as Serve the Ego, but no matter what they release, I don't see how it could do any worse than Break Me has. I really wish they had just left that song alone. It's not a radio song, and never was intended to be. I think by now though, there are many of us asking about Atlantic the question of "what were they thinking?" It sure isn't the first time, and I doubt will be the last. ~Stacey~ _________________________________________________________________ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 May 2002 13:02:21 -0400 From: "Sheila" Subject: [EDA] NJC..any NYC eda's?? I think it would do very well on radio, and with a good video, I think it could even make it to something like TRL on MTV. Not that that's a "good" thing for everyone, but it would most certainly give her the added boost she needs right about now. From a marketing viewpoint, I think it would be a wise choice to release that one next. But knowing Atlantic, they'll release something like Till We Run Out of Road...hehe. ~Stacey~ >From: Reecord2@aol.com >To: jewel@smoe.org >Subject: [EDA] Jewel's Third single? I know that when i hear something new and different on the radio I usually really listen and like it (unless it sucks and those songs are far from it). Most people i know are like this. People usually dont like to hear the same kind of music over and over again. You took the words out of my mouth. People would really like these songs and they would realize that Jewel is multifaceted (hehe no pun intended :), seriously). Also, I think that Standing Still is really making a hit right now and it is hard to make two singles work at the same time. Maybe if they release it a little later it will work.
