What has the world come to :-) Amy, that was a great choice for the Inaugural EDA of the Week. Although he seems to have gone back into lurk mode, it would be fair to say that the majority of people on this list have had their life damaged, ah I mean, positively affected by meeting and/or conversing with Dennis. My first real life encounter with a fellow EDA was with Dennis after the rehearsal for the VH1 Storytellers show back in '99, or was it '98? Too long ago! After discovering that I had just travelled alone from Australia to the US and had arrived less than 6 hours earlier, knowing no-one, Dennis took me under his wing as a guest of his country. My welcome to the US was a warm one and it almost felt like I had returned home, rather than flown away to the other side of the world. The two days that I spent with various EDA's were definite highlights of my time in the US. Recommendations for future EDA's of the Week would include: Amy Neufeld for her work with the EDAF Likewise, Tom Proven MrBB - for many reasons Mike Connell - for putting up with the crap that sometimes occurs here!! Steve The Aussie Angel named Taz Official Clan Member of The Harris Brothers(tm) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 5 May 2002 00:06:41 EDT From: Cressyda@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Dennis Harris I can't even remember the last time I posted; I am a notorious lurker. But praising Dennis Harris is a fantastic reason to come out of lurk mode. I've only met him two or three times but I could tell quickly that I was hanging out with a genuine great guy. My fondest memory? The Tweeter Center concert in Boston, I think it was the Tiny Lights Tour. First Dennis used his super-charisma to sell my less than good seat so I could use one of Bill's (or was it Chris's?) extra tickets. That was great 'cause the seats were better, I got to sit with EDAs, and Bill (or Chris =)) didn't have to eat the price of their extra tickets. Then after the show, while we waited for the parking lot to clear up, Dennis introduced us all to Woody the plywood cow, and taught us how to lasso. Some people walking by looked at us funny and kept going, some stopped to ask what the hell we were doing, a few stopped and actually gave it a try. I am proud to say I did finally get the hang of it and successfully lassoed Woody (how the heck do you spell lassoed?). Dennis even gave me a button to prove it, which I still have somewhere... So yeah, Dennis Harris rules. In fact so did all of those New England EDAs I met. Chris (CleoCrazy), Bill Bartholomew, Rob and Tammy, BluClouds (Ali?), the great Puddini... I know there's more. Stephanie! You guys still out there? I can't believe I've forgotten some names. I'm sorry! =) If you remember me, youshould drop me an email. I'm thinking I might come to Boston for the June 23rd concert. SO that the fans get a message from jewel what she feels experience, or when she is performing in the world that she tells us what she likes, and that we can give feedback to jewel for songs we would love to see her sing! i think that would be cool, if they put a diary on her official site! let4s wait and see if the jewel management considers this option! it would always be fun to see new things being developed for the fans and for herself! bye Michiel counting the days to go to italy to see jewel kickstarting her european this way tour _________________________________________________________________ Verzend en ontvang Hotmail via je mobieltje: http://mobile.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 5 May 2002 11:19:20 -0700 (PDT) From: Lee Garner Subject: [EDA] EDA of the Week, Harris Howdy y'all, While I've never gotten to attend any gatherings, I've had the benifit of making it to one Jewel show that I believe, for me, was the best kind I could attend. I am talking about Nashbash, at 12th & Porter. I am extremely grateful that the venue was SMALL, for it made for a MUCH more intimate and magical evening. Since I didn't get to meet very many of the EDA's before the show, I hung around after to introduce myself to some and see who was around. Now I'm sorry I did ;) Step into the spotlight, Dennis Harris. I, too, have been "damaged" (lol), by this man. A complete stranger, he immediately made me feel at ease, which isn't easy (I'm a lone wolf). He then proceded to amuse and entertain the rest of us, and led us into a restaruant to eat (Sunset Grill?). Dennis, I really wanted to party like hell with ya, but I had a lady friend with me that can't handle such self-abuse in the form of entertainment, so I had to be a good host and take her back to the room. Anyways, I nominate Dennis Harris for EDA of the Week. Y'all take care now, hear? Lee Garner Confederate EDA "...maybe if we are surrounded in beauty, one day we will become what we see..." Yahoo! We all know that she injured herself by falling of her horse in Texas, but how are her recovery steps going ?? I think she makes progress because we don4t received any other news than that she will be able to sing within two weeks. I would really hope that they would give us some information , so that you really know 100% that jewel is coming to europe. i hope sincerely that she can hold the tour with all the travelling and with her injurie. I mean i hope she can cope it. She is a sweet woman, and she will really miss her guitar and i am excited to see how the guitarparts will be handled! For example will Jewel play songs like Rosy and Mick singing or does anyone believe in love, or near you always! Should be interesting to report to you from italy the day after the concert at an internetcafe. will see if i can get access.... otherwise my first report about her first concerts will be made sunday the 12th of may... I travel to Italy and Zwitserland to see Jewel, and then i arrive in amsterdam again. And head the next day for three consecutive concerts in Stuttgart, frankurt and Brussels. bye Michiel the dutch jewelfan http://www.jewelkilcher.myweb.nl JEwel impala a dutch tribute site for jewel Yahoo! It's lost it's bullet at every format, and is basically sputterring to a close. I don't think there's much we can do at this point. It was a very ambitious single to release, and Atlantic don't seem to have followed up that ambition with any marketing muscle. Although, that may not be true. They may have tried everything in their power and just not been able to get the attention of radio programmers. I mean the only thing that categorizes "marketing muscle" in the radio world is the success of a song. That new No Doubt song is a massive hit, and I haven't seen No Doubt's record company promoting it in any huge significant way. So I guess it's all behind the scenes... and we really have no clue what Atlantic did or didn't do. Anyway, I think Atlantic should start thinking about the third single. Personally the only song I see succeeding at this point is Do You Want To Play. It's catchy, it's beat-driven and it's fun. That seems to be the only kind of song outside the rap genre that radio will really play right now. This Way is obviously the other option, but I hope they don't release that yet because that would be three songs about love in a row... and that's kind of redundant. It'll probably be another month before they release anything, which is probably a good thing... may as well give radio a break before you indundate them with a song they won't play. :) Steve ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 5 May 2002 20:39:11 -0300 From: "FabioJJ" Subject: Re: [EDA] Break Me - it's over It's very sad what's happening to Break Me. I think Atlantic could learn something from this. People want an update from Jewel's personality. I think everybody is tired of the cowgirl with a broken heart that sings depressing songs. She must release something more challenging that will catch people's eyes to a new Jewel. Many people heard Break Me and just said, it's nice, beautiful but I don't really care. I vote for Love Me Just Leave Me Alone. Or even Serve The Ego. These songs WILL call attention and will bring Jewel to the spotlight, I am sure. And, by the way, they're AWESOME songs. I don't know about DYWTP. I think they could have done so much more for this song... But anything is better than This Way, that's for sure. If Jewel releases this song, than she'll show everyone that she just wants to sell and she is nothing but that cowgirl with the broken heart. That's what I think.
