They filmed part of that movie in Port Townsend, WA (and Gig Harbor and Seattle). I was in Port Townsend in June when they were filming and "ended up" -- okay, I had thoroughly planned this ahead of time, I admit it -- getting Noah Wyle to sign my $20 gift certificate for Desert Fire (restaurant). Plus I got my picture taken with him and nearly passed out on the walk back to my car. A woman mentioned that her boyfriend (or husband, whatever) "loved" Jewel, and so by shaking Steve's hand he could indirectly have contact with her. Steve said something to the effect of 'Yeah, and if you kiss me right here on the mouth, it'd be like you were makin' out with her.' But the guy didn't take him up on that one! Anyway...he said that he had heard what happened, but that he hadn't talked to her since, and that he was 'gonna have to call her.' The set was awesome, by the way. He played some good old tunes, as well as some of the new stuff. Highlights -- "Tree Huggers", which I haven't heard him do live since '97, and one of the new ones, which I don't know the title of at the moment (It involved getting the whole crowd to sing "Monkeys flyin' outta your ass"). Hilarious. I was glad to be a source of valuable information last night, as well as a handy tool for opening that damn shrink-wrap on cds. He mentioned the Chicago show, and apparently didn't know that the venue has been changed. So I tried to fill him in on that one as best I could. Also, people were having trouble opening the cds for him to sign, and I had a tape measure on my keychain that had a little hook on the end. I offered it up to Steve, and he kept asking me for it until he was done selling discs. All in all, an immensely enjoyable experience. I'll see him again in Iowa City on Thursday, and then next Tuesday at the Chicago show.
