I was just at the jmerch store and i was thinking wow if there was like an eda online store then there wouldn't be so much confusion about all of this stuff. someone could set up a store and have like shirts different styles, bumper stickers for your car, or whatever you want to put them on, hats, keychains, it would be cool then all edas could go to that store and purchase their eda items there. And they could all be items that were designed by eda's. it would either go at cost. or all profits could be donated to clearwater project. now i'm not offering to do this it was just an idea that i had and well i just don't have that kind of computer knowledge. and i don't even know if it's legal. we would have to get some kind of a patent on an eda logo or the eda name. anyway, but hey there's my idea maybe in another couple of years the wheels in my brain will start turning again and i'll have another one.:) December ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Apr 2002 02:04:44 -0400 From: "Amanda" Subject: [EDA] EDA shirts ON SALE NOW Helloooo everyone :) pretty exciting subject line eh? Well, here it is.. the moment you have all been waiting for. Elizabeth's "Got Wings?" design DID win, and I closed the voting down early because the second design by Adina was no longer eligible because of copyright issues. SO now what? Well, Elizabeth and I have opened a Online store thanks to a suggestion from Rob and a wonderful Mommy (martian) EDA , Tammy ;) Please go to http://www.cafepress.com/edashirts To order your shirts. Here is a list of questions you might have: WHY ARE THE PRICES DIFFERENT THAN WHAT YOU SAID? The prices are a bit more (by about 3.50) because we went through an online company. It is called cafepress. WHAT SHIRTS ARE YOU OFFERING? There are Tanks, Baby T's, Sweatshirts, baseball jerseys, long-sleeved t's, regular t's, hats, and tote bags! and guys, if you beg me, I will add boxers;) WHY DID YOU GO WITH THAT COMPANY? well many reasons. 1. I know some people (and their parents) are more comfortable sending checks, and money to a company, instead of a person they don't know. This might help some of the younger EDA's be able to purchase the merchandise. 2. If you want to order a shirt, in 3 months or in a year, you still can. This way, I won't be trying to keep up with orders months from now, and I can guarantee that you WILL get your items. 3. INTERNATIONAL EDA'S CAN ORDER! YAY! (come on you KNOW that is good news) 4. They do the work LOL.I mean they print AND send the shirts :) WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE A CREDIT CARD?!?!? There are other payment options. You can pay by Check and Money order as well. you can buy money orders everywhere! for a reasonable fee. I think that is all :) Please enjoy the shirts, I know Elizabeth worked very hard on her design, (as did Adina!) and I work for hours trying to set up this store! LOL. P.S. December.. you read my mind ;) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Apr 2002 02:08:29 -0400 From: "Amanda" Subject: [EDA] Shirts...One more thing For those of you who know about the company cafepress... If we sell more than 20 shirts (which we will) then I, the seller, will make a 2 dollar profit from each shirt. OMG! NO! SHE IS NOT GETTING MY MONEY! don't worry... i set it up so that each check is made out to Higherground for Humaity, and donated to them directly. I wont see a penny of it ;) Amanda ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Apr 2002 02:56:48 EDT From: Fredsteve@aol.com Subject: [EDA] AOL - Humphreys footage Hey Guys One thing nobody has mentioned - AOL, being the sponsor for Jewel's "This Way Tour" has a new feature with footage from the Humprehys concerts. Its' three songs - Near You Always, Rosy and Mick and Jesus Loves YOu..... Jesus Loves You wasn't featured in the broadcast on satellite... so that's kind of neat. If you go to the Box Office thing and follow the Jewel link you'll see another link to a Jewel section, and it's in that. Steve ps- don't go to Keyword Jewel, because it leads to an old page.. follow the link. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Apr 2002 00:16:44 -0700 (PDT) From: Yee Ling Subject: Re: [EDA] setlists.... Hi! I'm new here. The setlists may be the same but the performance in Singapore was amazing. She sounded so perfect. I had to really try hard to listen out for any Eq and such. Let's just hope she won't have the same setlist when she tours your side of the world. I'm sure she will change the setlist. One more thing, anyone knows where I can find a community for Angelfood? Something like Tori Amos'? Anyone here knows of a taped performance in Singapore. Ok, that's all. Keep the posts coming! I did enjoy the video much more on the second viewing. I love the very begining how it goes down the line of soldiers, and the part with the butterflies is really cool. I noticed that only 2 of the people can't lipsync, not all of them like I said earlier. But I still think the end where theres 2 Jewel's looks really bad at first, the one wearing the tan dress just doesnt look like her at all. And on a happier note, the pop station here in St.Louis added Break Me to their playlist. It's only # 29 but thats a start, Standing Still was at # 30 it's first week and ended up making it up to # 14. One other station is playing it here too and they actually play it quite a lot. goodnite, Jake _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Apr 2002 07:57:19 EDT From: EDAEDAEDAEDA@aol.com Subject: [EDA] WOW! break me video Its strange and creepy in parts but imo this is on purpose to reflect our world. It doesn't leave you feeling cheerful and giggly like most MTV videos, but its definitely not forgettable. WOW! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Apr 2002 08:30:51 EDT From: Fredsteve@aol.com Subject: [EDA] video online... Hey Guys The video is online at Atlantic-records.com. Go to Jewel's section and then her discography, and open the This Way section and you'll find it. THere is a link from her main page, but it doesn't work. The video is really good (in my opinion). It's quite different, and original, and unlike Hands it's set in a warzone type place but doesn't make Jewel look like some hero. I know the concept of the video doesn't necessarily match the concept of the song... but indirectly it kind of does... cause the song talk about the courage to give oneself over to another totally.. and the video has a lot to do with courage. It's also nice to have a video that's a little different, and not just another "jewel in the forest singing sensually" or "jewel by a lake singing sensually" anywya.. that's my take. I may have more of an opinion when I see it fully on TV. Steve ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Apr 2002 11:54:42 -0300 From: "FabioJJ" Subject: Re: [EDA] video online... WOW! I just saw it and I thought it has a very nice message! I just didn't understand that girls in the crowd, but... I also LOVED the way it looks like it was just one shot. It's pretty cool. I enjoyed the video a lot, it showed me another message from Break Me, something I've never thought. What I got from it is that you may be in the war or anywhere, that you'll always think of your lover and you'd wish you were with him/her. OR, it could be just a message to stop the war and spread the love. I like it, it's already one of my favorities, and the remix is awesome. Go to www.atlantic-records.com/jewel and click on the Discography section, and then the This Way section and you'll find a link to the video there. Or if you're a member of the streetteam you'll find links in the Media section. Watch it, then read this after... *** Hey Guys There's a new message from Jewel on the streetteam website, and she talks a bit about the Break Me video. She basically says it's her favourite video yet, and that the director is awesome, and that she didn't want it to be your typical cheesy love song video, so the video is kind of about "the bigger love" (although she says that kind of sarcastically). Anyway, she seems really happy with the video. I just wanted to offer my little interpretation, because I think the video fits the song really well (in a weird way). I'll try not to make this too long. Basically the song, specifically, is about giving oneself over to another completely, sexually. However, in a more general sense the song is basically about that lack of "feeling separate" (using jewel's words) from another person which allows you to be so intimate... So the video takes a more general approach to the song, using the idea of war as an example of something that occurs when people do feel separate. The shield (and the line of shields) represents that idea... however when the shield "breaks" (over the words "break me" you'll notice) that's kind of that feeling of separateness shattering. And then the people that Jewel morphs into are examples of two things - firstly just a very wide group of different kinds of people, and also symbols that exemplify the concept of giving oneself over to something else.. and that courage. The musician (ie - giving oneself over to music), the girl and the baby (the baby having no choice but to fully trust the girl), the old woman (the frailty etc) etc etc etc. And then in the end Jewel and herself.... so that need for feeling connected to oneself. Also all these people kind of illustrate vulnerability, and the need to be vulnerable. I really like the fact that the video puts a totally different spin on the song. It kind of shows that sense that there are so many different layers to lyrics. There's so many ways something can be interpreted. I really like the video because I think it takes a somewhat cliched idea (the bigger love, people are one etc etc) and portrays it in an interesting way. First of all, the idea presented isn't that obvious initially. It's not heavy handed. It's somewhat restrained and subtle, which makes it a little confusing at first. Also using this song with this concept. If the video had been used with say, New Wild West, it would've been REALLY preachy... but the fact that the song doesn't immediately seem like the type of song that this video would accompany (or relate to), makes it seem more kind of... gentle. I think morphing is overused in videos today, but only because it's used gratuitously, without any reason... whereas in this video it's used really effectively. The only way to do it without the morphing would have been for Jewel not to be in it... and that would've been met with quite an uproar from a lot of fans... and to be honest it wouldn't have been that "daring" because that's been done quite a lot lately too. I think the main reason I like the video (apart from the fact that I think it's a good idea, well executed) is the fact that it's actually trying to say SOMETHING. It's not just "Jewel driving in a car in the desert looking for her boyfriend and ending up at a concert!". There's actually an attempt to make an artistic and social statement. Whether or not you think it's successful, I think she deserves praise for that. Anyway.. it's close to being my favourite Jewel video. I'd say it's my favourite (or possibly second favourite to WWSYS) in terms of the idea, and it's my second favourite for visuals (behind Foolish Games, which is still the most gorgeous video Jewel has ever made). But I think the idea is more important that it "looking pretty", and I certainly think this video is well executed visually. It can help Jewel4s carreer to continue to flourish :) It is not that i have a particular name in mind, but if Jewel sings a duet for example with Enrique Iglesias than she will get higher on the radiostations. It is just something that i reckon you have to sacrifice once, but you will have the factor that Jewel can get more populair. Once such action can change a lot in the carreer of an artist. But as an artist you have to like that duet thingie. I mean in America she is singing sometimes on TV shows with other artists.... I am just wondering if a duet with a famous /well-known artist in holland can help Jewel. A duet with a big female singer can help her carreer in europe as well... For example if she sings a duet with Dido or another female artist from Europe can benefit Jewel! But bottomline is that Jewel has to like the idea, i would say this could be a way to get a little more radioplay.. but i am very happy the way how jewel is working now on her carreer.. very brave, very cool and very comfortable !! she enjoys what she likes!!!!!!! so let4s hope she will continue to rock the musicworld! bye Michiel _________________________________________________________________ Meld je aan bij de grootste e-mailservice wereldwijd met MSN Hotmail: http://www.hotmail.com/nl ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V7 #152 ***************************
