It's stealing from the artist for one thing. I'm just as happy sitting towards the back. I don't need to be able to count the person's nosehairs to have a good time at a concert. I voted for the "Got Wings?" one. I like the emblem on the front, but the "Got Milk?" thing has been done too much!! It's old and unoriginal (no offense meant towards Elizabeth). Couldn't something more Jewel oriented go on the back. A picture of a guitar and a quote? Just something else. To Elizabeth: I mean no personal offense to you. I'm sure you put a lot of thought and effort into your design. You just see variations of "Got Milk?" everywhere. I think it would be very cool to do something Jewel specific. After all, isn't that what being an EDA is about? Well I had to put my two cents in regarding this. I voted, but I won't buy a T if the "Got Milk?" variation stays. Too over done... My suggestion is to put the front emblem on the back, and maybe the Flower of Life on the front. Would we be able to do that, or is that a copyright thing with Jewel?? Like I said, there's my two cents. Hope I didn't piss anyone off too much. Christy the Tattoed angel ===== "Lend your voices only to sounds of freedom." -- Jewel Yahoo! The expensive tickets at most of the US venues are $45.50USD with the odd exception being higher, making the price of two tickets ($91) converted into Canadian dollars $130.72... I paid almost $180 for two tickets for the Toronto show! That's an extra $20/ticket....I just find the difference in prices odd, they usually don't differ that much. ~ Sandy ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Apr 2002 14:50:58 -0700 From: Gerrit Subject: Re: [EDA] tickets on EBAY Laurel wrote: > I just wanted to express my dismay at the fact that some of the internet > pre-sale tickets are on ebay for up to $350 dollars. And the pre-sale was to allow fans to get good seats, not for > people to make a buck. You may notice that a lot of them do this for a living. I hardly think they feel bad about anything. ;) Unfortuntely, scalpers will always find ways 'round the system to make their money off of fans willing to pay the extra $$ for the privelege. Either way, the pre-sale worked. I got great seats. Some people got much better seats than me too. =) Gerrit ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Apr 2002 19:12:18 -0400 From: "Sandy" Subject: Re: [EDA] IDIOT PEOPLE selling tickets for $ 300!!! Okay, I'm not trying to be bitchy, but honestly people, what did you expect? Did you really expect that no scalpers were going to get the pre-sale tickets? People sign up to a gazillion fan lists just to get the pre-sale stuff - there is no way to block *absolutely every* scalper in the world...the idea of the pre-sale is to try and minimize it, and 20 people bitchy to the list about how unfair it is isn't going to change it. Personally, (and only my opinion) though I don't think it's right for people to make money off an artist's work, I'd rather have the chance to spend $300 and get tickets to go to see my favourite performer than not have that chance. Yep, that's right, I'd buy tickets off of scalpers if I had to. Luckily, I don't for Jewel, since I ended up with 6th row....but I have for other concerts. Yes, I feel they are ripping me off, and other people, but I'd rather have that opportunity then none at all - especially when I know if I don't buy them, someone else is going to to anyways. It's the person who buys the ticket's choice to spend that much money, if they are willing to do it, then I say "go them" for being able to. Yeah, it sucks that you don't have that much money to do it yourself, but the scalpers aren't really "taking" the tickets from the fans...they are going to another fan...and though I'm against them profiting, it's never going to be something that can be stopped. If you're all concerned that someone took your ticket, and you won't be able to go because of it, look in more directions than that: all of the people on the EDA list who bought tickets for 2 or 3 different shows took your tickets too. They get to see 3 concerts when you couldn't even get tickets for one. When Michiel sees 30 Jewel concerts a year, that's 29 fans at each of those concerts who don't get a ticket to go, and maybe they've never even had the chance to see Jewel. and no, I'm not bitching about the people who bought for multiple concerts, they have every right to see as many concerts as they want.... she's only playing one near me :) I'm making the point that if you look in any direction, people are taking what could be yours... it's life, and you can choose to bitch about it, or just accept it and spend the energy you saved to try and find someone nice enough to sell them to you at face value.... With that in mind I'm talking about someone who buys 2 extra tickets and sells them off at a higher price. What I am against, and what should *not* be allowed is the fact that ticket scalpers that call themselves a "business" (http://www.tickets.com etc.) got ahold of the tickets and are selling them. This is actually a business profitting for it, and they should NOT legally be able to purchase the pre-sale tickets...as a business they should have to wait for the public sale in order to get them. (So scalping is legal as a business in the US, Michiel, if you register a company and jusitify it in some way... selling tickets as an individual is not, they way people get around it on ebay is by doing something like selling a used copy of POY that *comes* with 2 tickets.... or something like that) anyways, just my two cents :) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Apr 2002 19:31:48 -0400 From: Mike Connell Subject: Re: [EDA] EDA T-shirts At 06:17 PM 4/10/02, Christy wrote: >I went and voted for the new T-shirts. We are extremely limited as to what can be done with these shirts due to copyright regulations. As a matter of fact, I wrote Amanda this morning telling her that the second design could not be used because of the quoted lyric from Hands. The only thing "Jewel related" the EDAs can *freely* use is the phases "Everyday Angels" and "We are everyday angels". The J-team gave the EDAs open permission to use those, within reason of course. On one previous EDA shirt the winning design used a sillouhette of Jewel and that had to be approved by the J-team, an option we likely cannot use anymore. So, right now, out of the two options that were on the website this morning, only the first one is usable. This happened on the Spirit tour and many people needlessly got into an uproar over the cloned setlists from the far east portion of the tour. However, when she hit North America the setlists were mixed up a bit. Granted, there was a lot of commonality too, but there were enough differences too. I'm happy sitting towards the back too, but I'm not happy not going to a concert at all, and I don't think that makes me any less of a fan...if you want to look at it from a different perspective, (note: this isn't my perspective) you could say the person willing to spend $300 for 2 tickets is *more* of a fan because they will pay anything to see that person. No, people shouldn't be allowed to sell them and make money, but it happens....don't push the blame off on the person who just really wants to see their favourite artist play...I'm sure they'd rather pay the regular ticket price and have it all go to the artist too, instead of spending an extra $100 or $200, but if they have that extra money, should they suffer because other people don't? other people don't have money to buy food either, so I should go without any of my favourite foods and eat only enough food to keep me alive because other people can't afford to order a pizza and I can? other people can't afford a pair of pants, but I'm sure some of you are still walking around in $200 jeans, right? ~ Sandy ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V7 #150 ***************************
