She was going to give a concert in the Carre, a very respectable venue near the Amstel in Amsterdam. Jewel was already sound checking early that afternoon. I was supposed to meet french eda fans Emilie and Francois, who went with train to Amsterdam. I was arriving on the day of the concert in holland after going by plane from london to amsterdam. I missed the Jewel awards show in Amsterdam for the Edison awards, where she recorded two versions of standing still....i still am positive that jewel was a little bit dissapointed about a tape that was in the background sound.....so she could her the song fade or her own voice...very strange.. But back to my trip in Amsterdam where the dutch jewelfan number one :) LOL :) was visiting a concert of Jewel once again. I really honestly don4t know what is happening to me when i know that jewel is doing a concert in Europe, it really makes me want to be there... So with the two french fans, and of course the biggest uk fan Chris Groves we went to wait outside the venue Carre , to see Jewel leaving the soundcheck. She took some time to do a photograph, an autograph on my lyricbook that i created for her so that she could remember her own beautiful words !!! We saw the Mercedes driving inside Amsterdam and we decided to have a dinner at a mexican restaurant...We had a good meal and walked back to the venue, and the excitement started to get on me...to see Jewel once again is something i enjoy always.... She started in typical Jewelfashion with a nice hawk tshirt (see the induction of the lately broadcasted tv show, that was the same tshirt jewel wore in Amsterdam concert) and she was wearing a beautiful golden pants that she jokingly told the audience and myself that she got it from Shakira (not that i am really liking shakira, too commercial just an icoon)... And The song I won4t walk away started, this song is really a great opener for her shows because than the band starts the tune and from the back of the stage you see jewel walking and starting to sing the opening words ....i got so happy when she walks to the audience....after this first song she started her own cool melody about love and the fact that she is stil in the musicscene the great tune Standing still!!!! She started to tell a joke about shakira, that she had punched her, took her pants of and that she was now wearing it during the concert.... Jewel started to sing a cool Do you want to play performance, one of my favourite tunes, that jewel already sometimes sang in 1999 , i remember it than being called Ohio..... Of course There is still her song Hands , about what people can do to help the world and be the difference...it is still one of her greatest songs ever... Jewel sang happily some accoustic songs, and the crowd enthusiastically asked for a boy needs a bike, and she was not too sure about the lyrics (although she performed it in Berlin , the 15th of february for her fans)....and the crowd was yelling my name just a little and i stepped from my seat to the stage and Jewel said : Oh no is it you again, but she meant it in such a sweet way that i was asked by her once again to come on stage and holding my lyricbook ! Again i was standing next to the angel from Alaska...who inspires us all so much on the list. To see her play the guitar, to see her beauty her typical Jewel fashion with her voice and to hear a boy needs a bike really made me the most happy jewelfan that night. for the second time you are standing next to the artist that inspires you , that you like that you feel comfortable with. And she remembers me which makes me feel very very happy....jewel will always be in my heart that is very sure...she gave me three kisses and i walked once again of the stage as a happy delighted over the moon Jewelfan.. The concert continued with nice Jewel songs such as Till we run out of road, Foolish games and Chime bells!! A sweet sorrow, is the call tomorrow...a sweet sorrow is the call tomorrow....!!! Jewel is really not standing still, she rocks!!!!!!!!!!!! THat night will be in my memory ever, all the songs were very cool. I really like break me as she sings the words and her band accompanies with the sound which really makes it beautiful!!! Do you.............need me...........like i........need you 2........do you........want me.....like i ..........want you 2.... After the concert we went waiting outside , saw Jewel came out very soon and she took some time to autograph and enjoyed her time with the fans..... She was heading away back to the USA after a very very cool This Way European promo tour...i think Jewel really is so much enjoying herself because i think she found back what she liked so much performing and interacting with fans... Jewel is the best singer songwriter in the world, and i do look forward to another serie of concerts that i am going to watch in may 2002....so till then i have to think about my great Jewelmemories, i know she will inspire me to travel to concert always.. Do you want to play.....as long as Jewel enjoys the crowds and is happy i will be at her concerts! Greetings, Michiel Yahoo! What's up w/ that? She has solo acoustic dates set for September in California.... what about everyone else?? Dump the band and do the whole tour solo! i don't know what the hell it is, but there's something more special / genuine / mesmerizing about jewel w/ just her guitar. that's my $0.02 cymbie "Work like you don't need the money, love like you've never been hurt, and dance like no one is watching." - -Bono ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 23 Mar 2002 22:32:30 EST From: LuckyStarr42@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] NJC: alias It's not a spolier if they already tell you it on the show. ashley staggers the sweet angel (\o/) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 23 Mar 2002 22:47:10 -0500 From: Mike Connell Subject: Re: [EDA] Solo Acoustic?? To me it's a combination of things. It's a much more intimate moment, and what crowd doesn't get fully absorbed into that? Those solo shows just make you feel good. Even with her "angry songs", they just soak into you more and make the whole experience more down-to-earth...makes you realize you just experienced a very special moment. Almost as if you were the only one in the audience. We each can relate on an inner level to more than a few of her "solo" songs and messages within that drills deep within you to the very core of your emotions. That's what I experienced at JewelStock anyway. She introduces him and he introduces her before they start yodelling... I was wondering if anyone knew the date of that particular song when they sung it together? I figured it must be in the POY era before Spirit perhaps? Any help is much appreciated! Thank you! John ===== Be a mind-reader and amuse me. Read my thoughts. I know it was from her VH1 Hard Rock Live special. It was filmed in early 1997, not sure of the exact date though. I searched the archives electronically but could not find the date.
