I'm not a regular to the list at all so I don't know how many times this question has been asked. I've just found a musical gem. I asked a guy in a newsgroup if he knew any music like Jewels P.O.Y (girl and guitar, live sounding) He didn't but another guy did. He said that "Patty Griffin - Living With Ghosts" was a must-have-cd. Living in Denmark I had to order it from the U.S and wait for 4 weeks. Now I got it and that guy was soo right. Patty Griffin writes her own songs and plays the guitar aswell. "Living With Ghosts" is her debut album and actually only a demo recording, that is just what makes it so good IMO. It is only Patty and her guitar, all the way. Although a few rocky tracks would have been great. A funny thing is that she have been an opening act for Jewel back in the 1996> days. Also being an audiophile it is a true joy to listen to a well recorded album like "Living with Ghost". The album has many things that I love about Jewel (esspecially POY). A girl and her guitar (so sexy :-P) poetic lyrics and a raw live-sound. All this may be old news to alot of you guys but to me, it is great news. It's now I hope you guys can help me. I want more. Any other female artists out there that have a (debut?-)album like written above. I'm really nervous about Jewel releasing "Break Me" as the next single. I just don't think it's going to work out well. Does anybody really know the reasoning behind bagging "This Way" as a single? I think "This Way" could speak to a lot of people very quickly. I'm just nervous because on VH1 Becoming Jewel said on the phone that she just doesn't want to pick the wrong single and have it all go down hill. If she's so concerned, why did she pick "Break Me" instead of "This Way" which seemed to be an obvious choice? Maybe it's not as big of a deal as I'm making it out to be. With my brother Maarten (yeah yeah!!) and his friend Rene from work, we visited Jewel in London. I started to be very happy once we get in the plane started to fly. We were early in London and my Jewel friend Chris picked me up from the trainstation. We started to have a great time, we walked , and went to the royal festival hall. i met the swedish fan carl malberg from sweden and i was happy to see him after the concert in 1999 !! We had a small dinner in a little Superburgerking...And we started to look forward to the concert!! Jewel is amazing, and we all wanted to see her. The concert was special as Jewel should open for herself in London. It was fun that instead of for example Steve Poltz, she started the concert herself!! Jewel wanted to impress her fans, and played beautiful songs. She opens the concert and she started to enjoy herself. She is so much in joy since she have been resting in the musicscene....To hear her say : Check and to her play the unbelievable Pretty Song Long slow slide !!! That is a beautiful song!!! I got really fever of joy and excitement, when she plays her guitar... The lights are bright in the circus.... Crushes your heart... it4s a long slow slide!!! it is a long slow slide... To listen now to this song while typing this email gives me again that great memory....Jewel is phenomenal... with bukowski widow....and the other great words!!! Jewel was in form with her accoustic songs!!! The most pretty songs are the accoustic songs of Jewel... The night was starting brilliantly, and i am sure that my brother who was never at a jewelconcert enjoyed himself. He said afterwards that he was suprised by Jewel4s voice!!! After the first song she already asked us to hear songs....and everybody starts to shout.....(on my site you can see photos of london http://www.jewelkilcher.myweb.nl).... She plays morning song, which sounds great!!! Leave the dishes in the seat.......don4t answer the door... it4s you again.......oh......i adore i give you some more....haha (make up lyrics) jewel was singing and enjoying and after three to four songs she asks people to help her remind songs and i was sitting front row seat and i walked to jewel and started to give her my lyricbook that i composed for her, so that she could sing a song from that book for her fans... she had to laugh, and was making sweet jokes if i am making her look idiot haha...but she was happy that somebody got organized on her...so she read the book and asked if there were guitartabs in it, i told no and she asked which song i liked and i said does anyone believe in love and she said i am going to oblige to the fans in the royal festival hall that she will sing my song. And she invites me to stage , i felt unbelievable happy...and i was holding my book standing next to her and she was so sweet and looked so gorgeous from so close....I felt happy and she kissed me once, (maybe) twice it never felt so nice.. The concert was really worth it....she also played rosy and mick before does anyone believe in love, but she said i am going to see too many shows because i know them !! I know Jewel really enjoys herself... After the concert my brother couldn4t believe that i was on stage... The evening was great, and after the break a lot of fans asked me how cool they thought it was!!! Jewel is so cute , i felt in heaven when i was standing to her ,and she played a song that i requested and she invites me to stage... Jewel is just a inspiring artist... In the end only Jewel matters... To hear Everything breaks during that concert is so cool, i never heard a better accoustic version than this night...Sorry is a stupid word....it4s a stupid thing to say....especially when you are considering that i didn4t plan it that way... I am sorry....that this love make me so hollow ... etc..the version is beautiful and i am making up lyrics because i am still excited... the songs with band are cool , standing still rocks and to see jewel walk on stage with the song!! (just healed by a kiss.......it is hard to stare at you...listening to the song everything breaks)... To hear the band play the record this way, having fun to listen to break me the cool song and to listen to one of her best songs till we run out of road... i did miss this way at the concert......it is my one of my appreciated songs.. Jewel was cool and at Foolish games and You were meant for me, the UK crowd starts to sing a long with Jewel that was really nice... Jewel just rocked london and afterwards my brother and his friend were drinking some beers and i was awaiting outside to see if jewel would show up...i had to wait 2 long hours as jewel didn4t come out....after the concert we gone to a small pub and than we walked back to the venue and afterwards jewel signed a little thing from me, i don4t remember yet what it was... It was held in the Centennial Garden Theatre. June 25th. If someone can help me out, i'd greatly appreciate it! It was the 1st time i'd ever seen jewel, it was one day before my birthday, so as you can see, this concert means everything to me. Also... The 2nd time i seen her was at the Visalia Convention Center, also in CA. This was September 28th. 2000 for the acoustic show. If anyone can get these for me, i'd really appreciate it!!
