It's not always the case, but many times record companies take out an up and coming artist on their label to open for an already famous artist. So who else with Atlantic would work well as opening for Jewel? Anyone? ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Feb 2002 14:26:09 -0500 From: "jake skyles" Subject: Re: [EDA] John Mayer vs. Michelle Branch I completly agree here. John Mayer is my number one choice for opener for Jewel. I love his album and he just totally reminds me of Jewel's early POY days. Michelle Branch on the other hand just seems too, well like Jessica said, "unweathered". Her music just sounds very generic to me, and I want to see something truly special opening for Jewel. Horrible album, hahaha oh please. Just goes to show that you can't please everybody. A lot of these reviewers are often biased one way or another anyhoo. His CD doesn't do him any justice, you've got to see him live. And the faces he makes when he really gets into his guitar solos are so funny.... his band can jam really well. Before he sang "1983" he started singing "my buddy! my buddy! wherever i go, he goes! my buddy, my buddy, my buddy and me!" (remember that?) and he goes "and then there was.... kid sister! kid sister!...." so then in 1983, he did this outro of a verse and chorus of "girls just wanna have fun" and a michael jackson song from that year.... he was so hilarious. there was some guy in front of me holding up his cell phone, and i guess it was interfering with the monitors on stage (cellphones tend to do that), and after the song, John kneeled down, and he was talking w/ one of his technicians for a minute and then stands up and says "cellphones: the new lighters, except lighters didn't interfere with the monitors, but they did burn down buildings and shit" oh yeah... the bassist looks exactly like Chris Kattan from SNL.... except with blonde hair. I wasn't gonna say anything to anyone, cause I'd thought they'd look at me like "okay... whatever...." and then someone else yelled "Chris Kattan in the house!!" so i then I knew I wasn't the only one who thought so. anyway.... cymbie tree hugger - -- when night falls it's dawn one must reach for. - -a. camus ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Feb 2002 15:19:49 -0500 From: "cymbaline" Subject: NJC: Re: [EDA] Ginny Owens and Jewel/guy duets yeah, I like Ginny Owens too... and for someone who's blind, she's such an awesome pianist. Hello Jewelfans, are there fans who want to join as a group of fans to festivals in germany and the netherlands. i really would like to go, but i don't know how to arrange this. at least certain concerts are ROCK AM RING 17th may ROCK IM PARK 18th may PINKPOP 20th may PARIS ??? 21th may and many more..... The festivals are expensive, but they can be cool as well...the ticket for rock im park costs 82 euro and rock am ring 78 euro...and pinkpop 52 euro's and as she plays on festivals it can become expensive, maybe are little concerts like paris more relaxed! but if there are fans that want to join than i really migh reconsider it! we could go as a group of fans with a great sign with Jewel the european fans and go to the festivals and other gigs. are the more fans willing to join me ??? let me know i really would like to hear from you the crazy dutch jewelfan going to 4 concerts in february of jewel and i already seen 2 in hamburg and berlin and 2 more to come in amsterdam and london next week bye michiel Yahoo! Subject: RE: [EDA] This Way "is a horrible album" wha? > Well, just let Jewel's fan's and unbiased reviewers be the judge and were > all set ------------- Actually this would be disastrous. To only let her fans and people who like her review her CD's wouldn't really be a review at all. Of COURSE they are going to like everything she does. I enjoyed reading that review. I think the critic had a good sense of humor, and while he may not like her album, he did comment on how she has had better material in the past...which would lead me to think he is UNbiased. Since he admitted to her earlier work being better. Had he said something like Jewel sucks now, and has always sucked, then I'd say there would be more chance he's biased. Yes not everyone is going to like Jewel, but just because they don't, even at an extreme dislike, doesn't take away from their credibility as a reviewer. Suppose the same reviewer wrote he/she loved John Mayer but thought Jewel sucked bigtime. Then what? LOL Just let them do their job. If you don't agree then that doesn't mean they are wrong necessarily, it just means you simply don't agree. But, some of us just may agree too. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Feb 2002 14:14:45 -0800 (PST) From: Christy Subject: [EDA] What song are you?
