This is exactly what cymbies post was about - people aren't allowed to say anything unless it's praise for something. People are (let me change that *should be*) allowed to have their own opinions, including the opinion that something "sucks" without deserving comments like the above. People aren't going to think everythings great all the time. Not all music is wonderful to everyone. My advice? Instead of bitching that someone doesn't like something. DEAL WITH IT. Go ahead and say "well, actually, I think it's a great song"... but just stop with the petty bickering over silly issues like this please. *this* is what is wrong with the list... people being so quick to jump on someone for having an opinion, just because it differs from theirs, then being as hypocritical as to post their own! ~ Sandy ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Jan 2002 22:50:54 -0800 From: "Sandy" Subject: [EDA] VH1's 100 Greatest Women Is anyone else surprised the the list of 100 Great Women of Rock & Roll (http://www.vh1.com/insidevh1/shows/100greatestlist/100women.jhtml) doesn't include Jewel? At first, I thought "well, it's probably alot of great older women, (I mean in terms of the era of music) like Janis Joplin & Ella Fitzgerald, and women who have made a huge impact on the market for a while, like Tina Turner, Cher, Madonna etc." thinking they were leaving off a lot of the more recent endevours.... but to see Tori Amos, Sarah McLachlan, Melissa Ethridge, PJ Harvey, Ani Difranco, Liz Phair & Alanis Morrissette on there... and no Jewel?? It's like a little hole opened up in there and just sucked her out! Granted, I'm not bitching that she's not on it, just surprised actually....and wondered if it surprised anyone else as well :) ~ Sandy ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 20 Jan 2002 03:49:17 +0000 From: "now and zen girl" Subject: [EDA] radio shack concert >I'll be happy to pay you or make a copy of the >radio shack concert on June 7, 2001 it was really performed on tuesday june 6th 2000 and shown at radio shack on thursday june 8th 2000. just trying to help. alisa - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: Click Here ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Jan 2002 23:16:37 EST From: AquaBearer@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] VH1's 100 Greatest Women I'm not as surprised not to see Jewel on the list as I am to see artists like Ani DiFranco and PJ Harvey. Granted they're good with a large following, but they haven't really revolutionaized anything or had a huge impact like other more recent artists like Alanis or Melissa Etheridge have. She may not have the mainstream success, but revolutionary she is. Through completely flipping off the industry and making it on her own with no help from huge conglomerations, she's helped people stick to their guns and not give in to the temptation swinging in front of their faces.. If she can sell millions without corporate backing, then other people can see that and be inspired.. Ani is one of the most inspirational people I can think of, especially for her female peers in the music business, which are the ones who voted for that list. She deserves to be on that list even if her music was mediocre, but the fact that it's great in itself helps cement her place.. I truly think she'll be looked back on as a huge force in music.. scott.evans [[mind is DISCONNECTED. but my heart is WIRED.]] AOL IM: sevans112 . Yahoo! But I really don't think she's been revolutionary at all. What's so revolutionary about a songwriter with a guitar? There are alot of them out there who haven't reached near her level of success, and some who have been more successful. She's talented, but not revolutionary. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 20 Jan 2002 00:02:21 -0800 From: "Sandy" Subject: Re: [EDA] VH1's 100 Greatest Women > I didn't say she wasn't good, cuz she obviously is. So what exactly is it that makes Alanis revolutionary then? You're right, there is nothing revolutionary about a songwriter with a guitar....but Ani's not just a songwriter with a guitar...that was the point that Scott was trying to make. He explained, quite well I might add, what she *has* done, other than just released albums, that was revolutionary for women in music. ~ Sandy ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 20 Jan 2002 12:04:43 -0500 From: "Pablo" Subject: RE: [EDA] VH1's 100 Greatest Women yeah, I find this really strange and somehow it pissed me off... how can they forget someone who has contributed so much to music and humanity likewise... how is this rated anyway... I can think on so many things like Higher Ground for Humanity, her multiplatinium album POY, her poetry book... and still there's people who shameless ignore her... or perhaps we have nothing to worry about coz Jewel is more than a name on a list, isn't she? coz for each one of us she doesn't have to be on a list to be our favourite... remember when she wasn't famous? and this also goes to everyone who feels ravish because his/her fav musician/artist is not included on a "100 greatest" list... Not to mention Queen, Aerosmith, Poison, Def Leppard... :D And Jewel is just so unpure!!! Sorry, just had to vent... By the by, does anyone else think the new No Doubt song "Hey Baby" really sucks? They are capable of some great music and this is their single from their new album???
