It's already half-way through January... personally, I don't think her singing a Christmas carol would make sense at all... might just be me though! :) Has she ever sang any Christmas carol's (on TV, other than the odd "Rudolph" with her mom) this long after the holiday season before? And the person he described was Britney Spears at the AMA awards. I agree that the dress by itself wasn't all that white trashy (although it wasn't as classy as Derrick made it sound), however combine that with a cheesy living room set (complete with fake mantel and photos, designed to replicate her upcoming movie), gigantic WHITE piano, backup dancers in sparkly dresses and an altogether TACKY choreography (plus factor in the song she was singing) and you've got what I would call white trash trying to look classy. That was my original comment to Derrick, and it was based on not just the dress but the entire performance/setup. It was, nonetheless, part of a private conversation which for some reason he chose to make public. Anyway, just thought I'd defend my position. Steve ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Jan 2002 19:50:24 EST From: Fredsteve@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Album Sales Hey Guys This Way moved up 5 spots from 25 to 20 on this week's Hits chart. It sold another 43 054 copies, which is a slim 13% decline, one of the smallest in the Top 50. The only albums with less % declines (or increases) were Grammy nominees (ie - Alicia Keys, U2, O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack). This Way has now officially crossed the million mark, with sales of just over a million copies. It's funny how with all the fluctuation that's occurred on the chart since the album was released, This Way has still managed to perform so consistently. In fact she's between somewhere between positions 20 and 27 since the albums second week back in November. Hopefully that will continue. Standing Still has moved into the Top 10 on the Singles Sales Chart - jumping from 11 to 7. However, This Way still remains out of the Top 50. Very strange indeed. And - GUESS WHAT - we get to see her again tomorrow night!! After the song Dave was so impressed with her performance that he asked her to come back tomorrow night and sing again... and she agreed. And I know what you're thinking - it was probably a joke - but NO... it's confirmed on the Late Show website. Tomorrow nights guests are Howie Long, David Brenner and Jewel! Very cool! I have to say I was dissapointed that she sang Standing Still AGAIN. A lot of people have been speculating that they think Atlantic's making a big mistake going with This Way for the next single. I disagree. I think their big mistake is WAITING to release This Way and trying to continue to milk Standing Still. I think Atlantic has to realise that Standing Still has pretty much run it's course on radio. If they continue to try and push it people are just going to get sick of it. They need to release the new single NOW so it can keep building from the momentum that Standing Still has created. Otherwise Standing Still will just become overplayed. Anyway - hopefully tomorrow night she'll sing This Way... or even better something like Serve the Ego or The New Wild West.. just for a change! HOW EXCITING - two nights in a row with Jewel on Letterman. Steve ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V7 #23 **************************
