Subject: [EDA] NJC: new survey Imagine this...an adult female, wearing a long below the knees white gown (not see through), nicely done makeup, and nice looking hair. No tattoos or piercings (other than ears). Basically like something a female might wear to a formal. How many of you would call this overall look "white trash"? I certainly wouldn't. I'd call it anything but. Maybe something like classy, or mature, or what it is...formal. Just curious what others think. Please send all replies PRIVATELY and I'll tabulate the results when I feel the majority of them have been received. Thanks! :-) So here's the choices: A. White trash B. Subject: RE: [EDA] jewels next single/atlantics mistakes I don't find it funny really...it's how the business is. Sadly. Those songs aren't radio friendly enough...according to the music industry anyway. We'll see if they're right or not. I doubt they will be. Maybe once Jewel becomes a has been then they'll be kicking themselves in the ass. That's about the only good thing that could come from all this. I think Jewel should start her own indie label like Ani DiFranco. She sure has the money to. That would give her full rights to everything then...think about it. Why hasn't she already done this? Contractual obligations? HAHA. She could can Atlantic if she wanted to. She's set for life anyway. Makes you wonder doesn't it? Just do her own thing. Then no one could tell her what to do anymore. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Jan 2002 14:29:28 EST From: ChrissyPf1@aol.com Subject: RE: [EDA] a few funny moments on the list today! I say: If you don't think that Jewel is that interesting then why the heck are you on this list? If you feel that way then maybe you should find a Britney Spears list. Is there anyone else on this list that agrees with Derrick that Jewel is not that interesting? Hmmm... - -- Chrissy ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Jan 2002 14:10:47 -0600 From: "Karacostas, Derrick W." Subject: RE: [EDA] a few funny moments on the list today! Read my statement again please. I think you may have misinterpreted it. No where in that statement does it mention the level of "interesting" I think Jewel is right now. That was just a general overall statement directed to the whole list. The list, as a whole. That's the bottom line though. If Jewel was really interesting right now, people would be spending more of their time talking about her then, rather than other artists. I'm only basing my comment on what I've been observing on the list. It's the actions of others, not myself, that this is based on. So the facts are already in place. :-) > ---------- > From: ChrissyPf1@aol.com[SMTP:ChrissyPf1@aol.com] > Sent: Friday, January 11, 2002 1:29 PM > To: jewel@smoe.org > Subject: RE: [EDA] a few funny moments on the list today! > > Derrick said: > > You see, if Jewel was really that interesting, then no > > level of conversation about any other artist would come up hardly at > > all.... > > I say: > > If you don't think that Jewel is that interesting then why the heck are > you on this list? While i was certainly aware of homelessness (i dealt with it often at work) and had seen homeless people in my own downtown area...i never saw it the way it was in NY. Probably because NY is sooo much more populated than from where i come from. Until that NY trip, i had never seen streets 8 lanes wide....NY was the biggest city i had ever been to at that point. Seeing all that poverty really grabbed at my heart and soul...riding along in that new truck. It sure made me stop and count my blessings. Witnessing that did make me much more compassionate to other people who are much less fortunate than me. It helped me in my job...i listened with total compassion to the homeless that i dealt with. Actually i gave them everything i could under the law thru my job. It was my pleasure to give all i could...right down to toothpaste and a toothbrush. Many times after that trip, when the beggers in my office building would be begging for just one cup of coffee on a very cold morning....i was the one who stepped out of line to give the money (my money...not the States money) to the cashier to buy them a cup of coffee and a donut. I never could understand how these well dressed people with good jobs could ignore the beggers. There was only 2 or 3 of them that were regulars. These were some of the most grateful people for just a simple cup of coffee. It gave me a good feeling to see these hungry people's faces light up....and enjoy their goods. I cannot count the times that i have given my client's bus money or a ride home or to the city mission or money to go downstairs to get something to eat. One time in LA (about 10 years ago) and on our way back to the airport to return the rental car....i looked for a homeless person and found one and we gave them our cooler which was filled with ice, food and drinks. We will never forget his look at us when my husband opened the cooler and showed him the food and offered it to him. We were at a gas station filling the rental car and this homeless black man was approaching people for money....and thats when we offered the cooler. He thanked us and away he disappeared into an alleyway. I hope that this can now show the eda's the real meaning i got from my trip to NY. Thank you. Sheila. - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Friday, January 11, 2002 3:35 PM Subject: [EDA] NJC sheila thing > i was newly employed, as a welfare case worker, > > you know, Aid to Dependent Children, medicaid and food stamps > > I usually dont get involved in these types of things but since u guys are all > down sheilas throat about the NY thing.....i think u might have misunderstood > what she was saying. above is from an email she sent shortly after the first > one about going to the "ghetto" i think she was trying to say that she went > there to see the conditions that the people she was helping were in. not for > personal kicks. if i am wrong please correct me but i think we just > misunderstood what she was trying to say. > > Heidi }:}i{:{ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Jan 2002 17:45:16 -0500 From: "cymbaline" Subject: Re: [EDA] NJC sheila thing So you did this all real late at night? > Thanks Heidi but i have to correct something i said...(i made a mistake) i > wasn't newly employed......i listened with total compassion to the homeless >that i dealt with....It was my pleasure to give all i could...right down to >toothpaste and a toothbrush....blah blah blah ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Jan 2002 16:59:15 -0600 From: "Karacostas, Derrick W."
