I have tried to privately email her to warn her that i will be looking into this continuing problem of her sending these emails to us but my attemps to warn her privately have failed because my messages have been sent back to me. It is sad that this list has to have such a person as her. Ciara has been very happy to feel she can be closer to Jewel thru this Jewel list. Jewel said that after a two year break she finally recorded a record with the kind of music on it that she wanted. Doesn't that say it all as far as her "selling out" or whatever... I don't think This Way is any more mainstream than Spirit. If nothing else, I think she is breaking her own mold. The stereotypes people have of her. Why should she remain a "folk singer" when she could be so much more?? And why should she remain that just because we, as EDA's, wish it to be so?? She says she wants to rock it a little more, well good for her!! As far as mainstream goes, I could never see Britney Spears singing "Standing Still" nor Jessica Simpson "Cleveland." They are mainstream (now anyway). I think This Way is a great album. I love all 3 pretty equally, but this one is definately on the equal. I love the way some rock more, because (to be honest) love ballads and folk music were starting to put me to sleep. It is different for her, but in a very good way. Also, I can't wait to see what album #4 will be like, because I don't know what to expect. Just had to put my 2 cents in about all of this... It's a natural search and progression, but there's nothing on This Way that makes me FEEL. I listen to Jewelstock and I hear 'Nicotine Love' and 'Nikos' and 'Louisa and Her Blue Guitar' and emotion is provoked. There's only a few songs on This Way that can compare. New Wild West, Grey Matter.. The others are nice, neat songs that I can see many people doing.. I just hope Jewel returns to the songwriting that made her diehard fans into her so much. I have hope. She said she was planning on maybe putting an album together of the more story-ish songs she had written together. 'Rosy & Mick'...'Violet Eyes'...'Does Anyone Believe In Love?'... I think I'll fall much harder for that one. We'll see. scott.evans [[mind is DISCONNECTED. but my heart is WIRED.]] AOL IM: sevans112 . Yahoo! Also, even if it wasn't a private e-mail, then you should have still at least put NJC in the subject (as I have). If you have a problem with Kelli or anyone, then solve that on your own time please. Kelli isn't writing the list all the time telling her how much she dislikes you, so could you please not write to the list telling everyone how much you think she dislikes you? That's only fair. The skating party yesterday was great! We had 15 people in attendance - pretty darn good for such a last minute thing. I wish I had had a better idea of the layout of the place beforehand (been years since I was last there) so I could've picked out a precise meeting point. I hope no one showed who was unable to locate us. If so, my apologies! We didn't get to meet any new eda's, unfortunately, but there sure were some old faces (and no, I'm not referring to age - especially since I was the oldest one there!). Akira actually showed up, proving that only homemade cookies bring him out of his hiding place. It was his first time on skates so he started out a little shaky, but by the end was knocking people down left and right just like a pro! ;-) It was an absolutely gorgeous sunny day and most of us were overdressed and feeling quite warm. I'm proud to say I didn't fall once, though Rob tried his darndest to take me out with him when he started to lose his balance. Luckily, being the superb athlete that I am (haha) I was able to keep us both on our feet. Many other EDA's were not so lucky but I won't name names. I'll just post the pictures at a later date - haha! We skated for about 2 hours and then, bruised and tired, changed back into our shoes - as Standing Still was playing over the speaker system - to go for some lunch. Unfortunately, the place I had chosen, Serendipity, had an hour and a half wait, so we had to figure something else out quick. The Campbells suggested Mars 2012 which turned out to be a great choice. To go into the restaraunt, you take a virtual reality spaceship ride which takes you from earth to Mars in about 5 minutes. Feeling a little nauseous from the ride, you then enter the cavernous eating area which is all made to look like red rock and are served by people in space uniforms. Periodically you are assaulted by stand-up aliens that tell jokes such as "have the ribs, they're very good today. In fact they're mine. But don't worry - I have spare ribs" LOL. Tammy also has had her nickname changed officially from EDA Mommy to Martian Momma. So, that was our day, more or less. Everyone seemed to have a great time. Thanks to all who came! Amy ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 6 Jan 2002 23:29:25 -0500 From: "Amanda" Subject: [EDA] NJC: NYC gathering Just wanted to add my 2 cents about the NYC gathering on Sat. After 4 days in New York City, i had done NOTHING but babysit, so i was rather excited to go out and do something. I was nervous to skate, since i hadnt in such a long time, but my nervousness was turned to excitement when i was assured i could fall with Akira :) since he had never been skating. My first few rounds went ok, i was wobbly, trying to refresh my memory and darn it... ice skating is tiring! When they decided to clean the ice, we all huddled around in a corner and ate some of martian momma's famous Choc. Chip cookies :) And i think a conclusion was made that she could sell then at the consession stand for 5 bucks a piece. YUMMY! Once back to skating, things were getting MUCH more crowded, little kids EVERYWHERE! I will be first to admit it. I FELL!!!!!! *laugh* i mean i really fell LOL. straight down on my knees, then when amy tried to help me up i fell again. Let's just say, i can barely walk today ;) Mars was lots of fun, great food, and i laughed a lot. I think one of the aliens tried to make out with akira though.... It was a wonderful day, and i was so glad to meet new people, and visit friends :) Naturally Amy was wonderful, and i can't wait to visit again. Night everyone, only one full day left in the city, and im shoppin tomorrow! Amanda ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V7 #7 *************************
