I completely agree. It's not that it is a horrible song in and of itself, but it's not Jewel quality and "sa ay that you'll sta ay foreeever this way......" I mean come on Is she serious? I would have like to have heard "Serve the Ego" on the radio. People know Jewel doesn't do average music since WWSYS and YWMFM so what's the big deal. I think STE would be embraced as a Jewel song and do really well. I think if WWSYS and YWMFM can make it on the radio so could Jesus loves you or New Wild West. I would love to see New Wild West as a single. But with singles like Hands, Jupiter, SS, and now TW they don't see any break from average.........pop. ~kris~ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Dec 2001 01:46:05 -0600 From: "Sarah Dowling" Subject: [EDA] NJC: Luna's Website Does anyone know if Luna Taylor still has her website up?? "Perfect" radio length is 3:30 supposedly. I'm not sure how long This Way is, I haven't checked. Sometimes remixing can be a subtle as taking out a couple of seconds to an instrumental part and making the vocals louder in a section. Technically "remixing" is incorrectly used a lot of times, because (as with the case with Jupiter), the track isn't actually being remixed, but re-recorded. A lot of people call that a remix anyway...so it could go either way. Lew www.coilback.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Dec 2001 11:36:20 -0600 From: "Karacostas, Derrick W." At least "Slave" has an edgier sound to it. This is reality...at least from what everyone is going to be hearing on the radio, Jewel is more "pop" now than Britney Spears. And if they keep releasing songs like This Way, she'll soon pass up NSync as well. But I'm sure she'll be counting her millions all the way to the bank too from the Jr. high kiddies buying up her new CD. I guess money does talk...even when you already have enough to last a few lifetimes. :-) I think it's actually quite interesting...Britney is targeting (and getting) an older audience now (15-30+) primarily, and Jewel is targeting (and getting) the 10-16 year olds. Funny how things change isn't it? :-) Derrick ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Dec 2001 11:41:30 -0600 From: "Karacostas, Derrick W." Can imagine Jewel singing that? ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Dec 2001 15:51:33 -0200 From: "FabioJJ" Subject: Re: [EDA] This Way all ye sheep! I agree with you. Why Jewel has to have "radio friendly" songs? And sometimes I also question myself "why is this song here? did Jewel write that??". This Way is a nice pop song, but that's not what I want from Jewel. There were a lot of talking about the new edgier sound of Jewel, but SS (edgier?) and now the edgier song from the album, This Way? How they want people to respect and admire Jewel if they only show the world her poorer songs? Another thing, maybe the radios don't want that kind of song from Jewel. I.e.: here in Brazil, Hands was played either on radio and on MTV and entered the Top 20 (I don't consider Hands to be so radio friendly as SS). Now, the radios don't play SS and MTV shows the video only after midnight. It makes me sad that Jewel has to live under such pressure (I assume that.) If she didn't like to record the This Way song, why did she?? Atlantic records. Fabio PS: I think they will transform This Way in a ballad, with a lot of pianos and violins... >> www.geocities.com/fabiojj <|> BRASIL <|> Jewel+Sarah << >> www.jewelbrasil.f2s.com <|> BRASIL <|> Fa-clube Jewel << >> www.jeweljk.com <|>JEWEL <|> official website << >> music <|> STANDING STILL <|> Jewel <|> THIS WAY << >> http://www2.fanscape.com/jewel/streetteam/standingstillaudiord.asp << ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Dec 2001 13:13:13 EST From: AquaBearer@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] This Way all ye sheep! I don't think Jewel has gone quite that far just yet. Obviously she is more pop than ever before, but she hasn't gone all the way - getting into cheesy, choreographed dance routines with chairs and dancers and stuff. Maybe she's doing now the kind of things musically she always wanted to do, but couldn't at first with PoY because she didn't have the financial backing to try different sounds back then like she does now. She's just trying sounds out that she's interested in maybe. Who really knows? Just some thoughts. It doesn 4t get any more differential than some teenage talentless titflaunting twatty teenybobbing bimbo who can 4t sing properly... does it now? yes, This Way is somewhat commercial, but clearly shows at least somewhat remotely singing skills, and will have to please Atlantic, cos THEY are in it for the money, and if Jewel doesn 4t make them money, they4ll fire her from their label. Simple as that. Red ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Dec 2001 12:25:49 -0600 From: "Karacostas, Derrick W." Subject: [EDA] Pantene concert Since I haven't seen any posts about this yet, I figured I might as well update everyone. The Pantene show last night on MuchMusic USA showed Jewel playing WWSYS and Break Me, both acoustic. There was also an interview with her as well as a couple other short segments. The girl who won, out of the 5 competitors, is the only one I felt should have won. She was the first to perform, the one playing the piano. I didn't think the others were really that good. It's nice to know the judges were in agreement with me. :-) So that's all you missed. It wasn't alot, but a bit more than some other shows she's been in, such as that waste of time People show thing the other night.
