Well, I was on this list back in 1997, and I don't remember it being anywhere near as unpleasant as it has been recently. Jewelstock was treed once, the question was asked of her management by Mike Connell recently, they said no, end of story. No ifs, no buts, no complaints. All you have to do if you want a copy is ask politely if there's anyone on the same continent as you who will copy it for you for blanks and postage, just as I did back in 1997 when I wanted a copy, and just as people asked me when I copied it for them. It's a simple equation, and it always has been. There are enough copies out there that there is no *need* for a new tree, the purpose of the tree being the initial distribution. The chart is currently 46% in (unusually low for the first day, but it seems to have stopped updating) and Jewel is currently #21 with 72 487 copies sold. If she keeps selling at this rate she should end up with approximately 160 000 copies sold by the time the full chart comes in. That's a massive 51% increase over last week's total. Christmas time is particularly lucrative in terms of CD sales... and that rule is definitely applying to Jewel this week! Next week should be even better! let's hope she keeps selling at the current pace and does end up with a figure close to the prediction. later Steve ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Dec 2001 02:18:47 From: "Matt Adler" Subject: Re: [EDA] "Fritz Creek Store" "Fritz Creek Store" was recorded several years ago, prior to "Spirit". I do not know how much post work was done on these recordings, but I do not believe they were ever fully completed. Atlantic delayed this album because they wanted to miilk as many singles from "Pieces of You" as they could, mainly 'Foolish Games'. When Atlantic was ready for another album, Jewel wanted to record something completely new, because she did not feel that Fritz was a good representation of her work at that time. She felt that she could produce something better and something that represented her work better at that time. As far as I know, 'Deep Water' is the only song that survived and made it on to "Spirit", though it was a different recording. It's a shame, I have always wanted to hear a studio recording of 'Carnivore' as well as acurate lyrics. Too bad that something similar to the Lillywhite Sessions never happened with this possibly hidden gem... Steve ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 17 Dec 2001 22:06:01 -0800 From: Uri Cancio Subject: [EDA] my little breakthrough Ok..so this weekend was a fun weekend for me, went to a very crazy party on friday, then on saturday went to another party and then yesterday the concert... but on the saturday party I had what I shall call my little breakthrough... You see, I've been playing guitar for a couple of yrs now, self taught and not been able to make it my # 1 priority due to work and other stuff.. but this yr I decided that no matter what, I was going to practice at least 20 minutes everyday no matter what.I did and on saturday I went to a party that my dear friend has every year, at this party there's this guy that last yr annoyed me a lot, he plays guitar awesome , he used to be in Creed when it started out but when it was time to decide what to do with his life, he chose Law school and now he's a successful lawyer , instead on Creed...hmmm...so last yr I found him to be very cocky and just plain obnoxious.. he played and played and when I asked him to give me some pointers and stuff he just kinda blew me off.. so I vowed revenge.. this yr I told my friend that I was going to take my guitar and kick his ass, but I'm all talk and no walk, when I got there I just left the guitar in the car and decided not to go through with it.. there were like at least 50 people there and I was just not going to do it. But word got out that I had my guitar in the car and since lawyer left his and was itching to play he had to ask me for it , I said ok and got it . he played for a while and all of the sudden he stopped and said..ok now you...I was like, no I suck ..nah..but we were in the patio and not a lot of people where there at the moment, so finally him and some others convinced me and i just took a deep breath, did a little "Hail Mary" and did my "SS" murder of Jewel's song and people started coming out and all of the sudden I was surrounded and when I finished I got an applause and that eager me on, soI went and did some "Live" ,then more Jewel and a little chord progression that I haven't put words to it yet.. everyone was impressed and a lot of people came up to me and told me that I was very good and that I had a great voice... I was like, no..thanks...but when Mr Lawyer came up to me I thought he was going to tell me all the wrongs I did, but no, when he approached me he said , "you're are very very good, has anyone ever told you that?" aI'm like,"no, 'cause this is something I just do at home", he was like no, you are very good, I 'm telling you and I'm not f**ing with you... so that's it.. I sang with my little guitar , made peace with Creed-laywer and got a boost of self-steam that I really, really needed . I just love music so so much, I try to look for the art on music I don't even like, It moves me, it's inside me and I love it...I'm passionate about 4 things in my life; Art , Music , poetry and my pets (and all animals in general) I don't think I can't go anywhere with it, it's too much of a sacrifice for someone who doesn't have anyone backing her up. I just hope I can just entertain my friends and just have fun with it and, in my crazy dreams, that I could start a chic band and get like a weekly gig somewhere and play for drinks and stuff...that would be so much fun..let's see..life is too short , I might just do that this next yr... night Uri ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 17 Dec 2001 20:08:10 -0700 (MST) From: Laurel Subject: Re: [EDA] next single Do You Want To Play would be the best choice, I can't hear it enough and it would give the general public a new sound "I do not envy people who think they have a complete explanation of the world, for the simple reason that they are obviously wrong." "they're playing Jewel!!!" and the people in the same isle as us just turned around and were staring. I was like... what are these people's problems!
