Obviously not. Your CD copy is not better than my tape copy, I guarantee that. And you are listening to the same analog version I am...only probably of lesser quality. You aren't listening to digital sound, so the fact it's on a CD is meaningless. It's analog audio in disguise. When you buy a new CD, *that's* digital sound. *That's* different. You can't compare that to this application. > ---------- > From: Jewel Fan[SMTP:jewel16rox@hotmail.com] > Sent: Wednesday, December 12, 2001 2:09 AM > To: jewel@smoe.org > Subject: Re: [EDA] Jewelstock copies > > >I've seen a few posts about this so I'll just send this to everyone > to > > >maybe avoid future questions regarding this. First of, I was recently asked if I am planning to do another poll this year and how come they received no results for the last year poll. Well I looked into it and would like to send my apologies to those who participated last year and have not received the results. Some of you may remember that I had e-mail problems last year and I guess that resulted in some people not receiving a reply, even though I know many did. Anyways, if you'd like the results, let me know. Now to this year's poll. Since this is a Jewel list, it's safe to say we have a strong candidate for #1, particularly if we consider that Spirit won in 1998 and 1999 (was really close though). Last year however, Dido swept the competition including Jewel's Joy. So we shall see what happens. It's easy to make your opinion and taste count: 1. Those of you who participated before already know the rules, but here's a quick reminder: - Send me a list of your favourite albums this year. - You can list any number of albums... you can list 1 or 100... but - only the first 20 (or less if there aren't even 20) will count. - It is REALLY IMPORTANT that you put them in the order of preference since it makes a big difference if an album is listed as #1 or as #20. - Every album must have a release date either in 2000 or 2001. - send your charts to romeantic@email.si Some of you music enthusiasts (Hi Scott!:)) like to take your time and give insightful comments along with the votes!!! I love that... especially for the music I don't have and it makes me wanna check some of those albums - usually they sound mighty intriguing! 2. For those of you who are new to this here are extensive guidelines and rules. - --------- HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW IF YOU WANT TO VOTE: ----------- 1. Send me an e-mail with your favorite albums of the past year! 2. It is REALLY IMPORTANT to send the list in the order of your preference... because it makes a huge difference if you put an album in the 1st or 20th slot!!! I know the order can be particularly difficult... but approximate the best you can. 3. And remember ONLY albums released in 2000 and 2001 are eligible for this!!! So you CAN'T vote for albums like: - Yourself Or Someone Like You - Matchbox 20... - Spirit - Jewel - Jagged Little Pill - Alanis Morissette - The Wallflowers - Bringing Down The Horse etc... If you don't know what year the album was released just asked me or include it in the list and I'll notify you if everything wasn't OK. 4. However if there are some resonable circumstances I'm willing to make exceptions for albums released earlier, you just have to write the reason along with the vote... and I'll check it out. This is particularly for albums released a while ago that got their big breakthrough this year. 5. You don't have to send the list of 20 albums. If you send more I will only consider first 20 and if you can't think of 20 titles you can always write what you can think of now and in case you think of more you can send me the rest later. If you can't think of the album title or something don't worry just send a brief description... like: the latest album by ???, or the one containing XYZ song. I'm not saying I know everything - but I'm pretty much into this and so far it wasn't hard to solve the "riddles" :)) 6. Of course voting is open til January 10th!!! 7. --> The address to vote to is: romeantic@email.si 8. No e-mail address or voter's name will be passed along to the SPAM-O-MANIA or CHAIN-ME-HAPPY mailing lists. For the best in spam and chain letters you have to be good and work hard throughout the year and who knows I might subscribe you for your birthday! 9. Only residents of the 3rd rock from the sun are eligible to enter this poll, and it must be sent from a terminal on this planet. and 10. If you don't vote you have no right to send me hate mail!!! --------------------- MAY THE BEST ALBUM WIN -------------------------- That's it! I can't wait for your votes... so if you'd like to see your favorite album among the best of the year... send in your votes... the more of you participate the more ballanced and "accurate" the chart gets... That's it... if you have any further QUESTIONS OR SUGGESTIONS... don't hesitate to e-mail me... if I think of something else that needs to be said I'll send an update... and I will post reminders in the next weeks. Let the voting begin -- Have fun and stay beautiful Dr. RomeAntic, an angel with the worst stroke of luck and a flash of revelation "But at least we knew our limits And we know where our edges are Like we're sleeping on the top bunk and save ourselves before the fall" Edie Carey ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Dec 2001 14:43:30 -0800 From: "Jewel Fan" Subject: [EDA] NJC: My apology to the list! You're listing, in my opinion, some of her best songs...but here's my list! (in no particular order) 1. Flower 2. God's Gift to Women 3. Nicotine Love 4. Jessica 5. Carnivore 6. Everything Breaks Sometime 7. Summer Home In Your Arms 8. Studies in Love #12(this is one of my favorite songs!! does anyone have a good quality version of it? mine is really muffled) 9. Quiet Warrior(this is a cool song.....though I haven't heard much talk about it...she wrote it, didn't she?) 10. I'm Sensative(like a lot of people have been saying, yeah, she's played it to death...but i've never heard her play it!) I know a lot of these songs are repeated, but they are some great songs! And another thing.....regarding the whole Sheila/driving thing, come on! I sometimes am so close to just getting off the list, I mea n, for awhile now, 60% of the e-mail that I get, isn't abotu jewel news, it's just bickering between Derrick and whoeever, or whoever and someone else, christ! Can't we all just get along? Who cares if Sheila drives in the snow?! It's not our business! It's hers and her families, we don't have the right to tell her how to raise her child, nor how to drive. Jewel's gonna be featured on CNBC's Power Lunch tomorrow at 1:15pm. Footage from the Z100 Jingle Ball rehearsal apparently. Also the calender confirms that she'll be hosting the 25 Most Intriguing People TV special next Tuesday on NBC at 10pm. Of all the press appearances so far, I have to say that one is the WEIRDEST. Steve ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Dec 2001 19:33:15 -0500 (EST) From: space_bandits@webtv.net Subject: [EDA] (NJC): tape to cd/analog-digital As far as analog sound on cd...I think that if you buy an older album on cd that hasn't been digitally remastered, you're just getting the same thing. Except, and I have noticed this when comparing some of my vinyls to the non-remastered discs, that the cd sound is actually slightly worse. It's missing something. A friend transferred some of my tapes to cd, and the sound is definitely slightly worse. This "fake digital" is rarely all that hot unless you get a Japanese version. But I hate screwing with tapes and vinyl anymore. So I'll happily accept a minor sound degradation for the convenience of a cd. I rarely play albums straight through; if I do it's usually bands like The Beatles, Hawkwind, Yes, and etc. that make highly conceptual pieces and rarely throw in crap tracks. Although from what I'm hearing this Jewelstock sounds like there's no filler. I'd love to hear that!!! :-) Sean >np: Iron Maiden "The X Factor" ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Dec 2001 19:50:28 EST From: HaRt0Jewel@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] Jingle Ball Q 95.5 (sorta NJC) Halo Shianne & Angels, I went the Q 95.5 Jingle Ball yesterday, and I must say it was my worst experience (ever) at a concert. 1st of all, they didn't start letting people in until like 6 or so. So that means there were blocks and blocks of people standing in the cold for hours. Why did they say it started at 5? 2nd of all the show didn't start until like almost 7:30pm? What the? Also, I didn't see anything posted (on my way in or out for that fact of the matter) about no cameras. I saw many people taking pictures, but what happens when I take my camera out just to LOOK AT IT? The stupid security dude comes over and is like "Give me the film or get out." I'm like NO, because I didn't take a picture. There were only 7 more snaps left..and mostly all of the pictures were of my sisters 2month old baby so I didn't want to get rid of it) So what does he do? Picks me up, nearly dragging me..across the floor. WT? He kept demanding my film and I kept denying. So all these security people are around me and one of them snatches my camera..nothing said, and leaves. (Mind you..this is not one of those (brand name here) one time use cameras) - -snip snip- Finally some 1 brings me back my camera..but where is the battery? BASTARDS! Sorry. Anyhoo, so can some 1 tell or politely ask, *Jewel* to never go back to the State Theater, in Detroit, MI b/c it and the people working there are nothing but TRASH!!!! Even through all this, I must say that *Jewels* performance was great, even though I couldn't fully enjoy it after the above events. (And the smokiness and rude pushy people) Sorry for the longer than normal post from me, I'm just upset. ~Tamarrah, the Pi**ed Off Angel - ------------- I saw Jewel at the Q 95.5 Jingle Ball and she was awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have never been that close to the stage at a Jewel concert, I was about ten feet from jewel. I would have to say the best song she sang was, Who Will Save Your Souls. It was really hard to get to the front through all the O'town fans and my feet were killing me from waiting and standing so long, but it was worth it.
