Subject: RE: [EDA] sheila driving in the snow Seems like I'm a better friend of her's than you are Alisa. You see, I wouldn't let my friends drive drunk either...another accident waiting to happen. I guess you don't have a problem with this either. You're that person on the defensive driving video who says "but I didn't want to cause a scene, and besides, she can handle her liquor better than anyone....let's not spoil the fun!" Before you go on thinking you're right, trying contacting every state highway department in the country and get their opinion of this. I'm not compromising peace either. Trying to promote safety is in fact, the complete opposite of that. And I guarantee you any constructive criticism I'm offering right now is far less a "beating" then when a mom slams on her brakes, watches her kid fly out the front window, then while the car is still skidding on the snow, she runs over her own kid. *That's* a beating. A very emotional one. Yes, I imagine it's true that little kids may enjoy something like going riding in the snow covered roads. That's why they are KIDS. And that's why there are adults who are supposed know better than to do this, and to teach their kids things like this aren't safe to do. There are many ways to have fun, and to do it safely. Example...when you see those car commercials for new sports cars, they're sliding around corners, going fast, doing all sorts of really cool things. That does look like alot of fun! And I'm sure it is...but you also see the notes at the bottom of the screen stating that it's a professional driver on a *closed course*. I'm sure also with a significant amount of safety gear on. A helmet, racing belts, maybe even a roll cage. Even though Sheila said she goes out on a deserted road, that's hardly a "closed road course." You have trees, light posts, road signs, ANIMALS, and other normal hazards...aside from *possibly* other vehicles. And since I'm sure they don't all wear helmets and have a roll cage in their car, I wouldn't exactly call that a very "safe" thing to do. I'm educated in these matters, and there's no way in hell you'd catch me in that car with her. I really feel that children are put into danger in cases like this, without knowing better. They're just going along for the fun, leaving the responsibility up to the parent. And the end result could very well be a fatality. And Sheila, if you're saying it's safe and you're careful and all this, then why did you ADMIT that your own husband thinks you are crazy doing this? That should tell you something. Maybe you should try listening to him some. > ---------- > From: now and zen girl[SMTP:lemming523@hotmail.com] > Sent: Monday, December 10, 2001 2:32 AM > To: jewel@smoe.org > Subject: [EDA] sheila driving in the snow > > why compromise the peace on this list to beat up on someone for something > they do on their own time? > > it sounded like fun to me sheila! > > im not starting a fight here, cus i think i made it pretty clear that i > dont want anymore of that. but sheila is my friend and i will back her > up!!! > > lets not start things. > > alisa > > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Dec 2001 10:44:59 -0600 From: "Karacostas, Derrick W." Subject: RE: [EDA] NJC: driving in snow You're very correct. I too know of people who have died doing these things. I think a good point you made was that this person was *wearing* his or her seat belt...and they still died. Also, there have been many many people who've died on snow covered roads as well as other hazardous conditions, when all they were doing was being as careful as possible. The reason....someone else who wasn't practicing those same driving habits lost control and ran into them. So then you have numerous innocent people getting killed. Especially during the month of December when it's cold in most parts of the country, and many people are travelling on the highways....that's the worst time to practice unsafe driving. > ---------- > From: ChrissyPf1@aol.com[SMTP:ChrissyPf1@aol.com] > Sent: Monday, December 10, 2001 9:43 AM > To: jewel@smoe.org > Subject: [EDA] NJC: driving in snow > > Sheila & anyone else who thinks donuts are safe, > A man died last year in my hometown in NY doing donuts in a mall parking > lot. > He had his seatbelt on, but the car flipped, and he was crushed inside. > THis > is VERY serious. Really because I didnt know how to respond to most of the posts.. but even though people have said the list is not like it used to be... we shouldnt say this, we should just try to make it better and like it was before. For newbies, like me we are kind of lost of what to say, since we weren't here back when all things were different. I like the list, and have met some really nice people. (lol... i think i have said this before) So lets come together- and put the spirit of the list in the right direction...~Also, I was wondering was there ever a c.d. made up with fellow eda's music on it or something like it. If so, where could i get a copy. If anyone could help me out with this one, that would be great! OK at the Humphrey's show on the first night Jewel sang a song that had the lyrics blue eyes and blond hair. In fact when I heard it on the album, I was dissapointed at first-- there was a lot going on instrumentally, and I thought that that took away from the message. I think that she played it live at the Humphreys concerts too-- does anyone remember if she did it with the band then? How did it sound. I remember that it was posted to someones website at one point... I hope you don't mind that I posted your reply Derrick-- but I thought it might be an interesting thread.
