I don't know how many of you are aware of this chat thingie MSN is having for Madonna. All I have to say is, the chat is on Wednesday at 12:00 noon Eastern time. Does anyone else think that's the dumbest time to have a chat? Especially for someone like Madonna? Hehe, just thought it was funny and wanted to others' reaction to the planning of the chat. I personally think that's a horrible time to have a chat. I like them all, but my favorite is the one where she is Mother Mary and her brother is Joseph!!! Maybe they were in a school play and had these leading roles??? Maybe it was a Christmas program at church or school??? or maybe Jewel just wanted to play dressup and talked her big brother into it??? Ciara's favorite picture is Jewel in the Eskimo coat...she loves Jewel's coat.....so i just couldn't help it...i got into the Christmas presents and gave her one...just one....a little eskimo doll that i bought recently at a doll store. Its only about six inches tall and has porceline hands, legs and head...the cutest little face you ever did see with very long braids. The winter outfit is awesome...with very real -like fur around the hooded coat and sleeves. The doll even has on moccocine boots!! It was only twelve dollars and Ciara just loves it. I just can't wait for Christmas!!! I am praying for a snow storm!!! Yes, we love snow...lots of it. My favorite thing to do when its snowing outside is to get in the car and drive down deserted country roads (so i don't have to worry about other drivers) and make it feel like a blizzard with the snow blowing in the headlights of my car. Bad weather and bad snow covered roads are the best time for me to pack up the kids and hit the road!!! My husband usually only goes because he fears for our safety...he thinks i am nuts. Who cares...we love the snow!!! Happy Holidays to all EDA's, Sheila. PS. we also go to large grocery store parking lots and i get my car spinning in circles so fast...the kids love it and so do i. Goodnight all. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Dec 2001 03:41:45 From: "Justine L" Subject: [EDA] Jewel MMM I&I Just finished watching Jewel on MuchMoreMusic's Intimate and Interactive. Boy, I wish I was there.. but alas, more important things (like exams!) await me. She was pretty amazing, although they didn't give her enough sound on her vocal mic for the first couple of songs. But eventually they fixed that. She basically did This Way songs, with the exception of Hands and WWSYS. Hands and WWSYS were amazing. It's very strange (in a good way!) to see how her songs evolve and change as she evolves and changes. Neither of the songs are the same as they were when she recorded the albums. My roommate and I were also discussing how much Jewel has grown and changed.. it's hard to look at her as the same person who in the YWMFM and WWSYS videos. She's the same, but so different. Anyway, the I&I was good, I wish they asked more questions that weren't so cliche though. And the interviewing lady seemed to want different answers from Jewel and kept digging to get them, but they were no where to be found. I wish that interviewers knew more about the people they were interviewing than the names and dates of realease for the albums, and a bit more than a bio can give. Ah well, here's to life! Cheers! That's probably one of the worst situations to be driving in... I can't believe anyone would purposely put their family's lives in danger for a joyride during horrible weather like that. You might think you're a safe driver, but ESPECIALLY in weather like that, you never know when you'll go off the road, over correct and either hit a car head on, or hit a telephone pole... or even a pedestrian. Icy roads are very dangerous driving conditions (as well as blizzards and severe thunderstorms where visibility is like... 3 feet, not even), one wrong move, and you've lost control of your car. So I seriously hope you were kidding. If not, i'm sorry.... but that is very foolish. You should be thinking of your children's (as well as your own) safety BEFORE venturing out for a joyride. > PS. we also go to large grocery store > parking lots and i get my car spinning in circles so fast...the kids love it > and so do i. This doesn't sound very bright either. Just as a first note - for all those who are under the conception that Jewel is a bitch in person, this is ABSOLUTELY untrue (or at least she was not a bitch tonight). I was in a very small room with her for over an hour and a half and I have to say she was EXTREMELY down to earth, friendly, funny, and just generally nice to everybody including the band (who she seemed to have good rapour with), the roadie guys, the muchmoremusic staffers, and ESPECIALLY the audience. From the minute she arrived she was talking and being friendly with the audience. Actually there was one girl in the audience who was almost blind (legally blind) and she had this contraption with her to help her see. And before the show started Jewel asked her about it and they had this lengthy discussion.. and then during the breaks Jewel would go up to her and start asking her about her condition and whether she read brail.. things like that. Really friendly and kind. Anyway... here's what I'll do. I'll go through "the good", "the bad", and then the setlist.. and that'll be it. The Bad - This was not a concert, it was a TV taping. The show itself was very contrived. It was VERY controlled.. Thus it didn't have the spontenaity of an actual concert. It was makes you realise how spontaneous even Jewel's setlisted shows are. The other problem with it being a tv taping was that the sound was optimised for TV and not the studio.. which isn't to say that the sound was BAD.. but it wasn't as good as it has been at concerts. Jewel's voice was way too soft at the beginning. It got better as the show progressed so I guess they turned up her mic or something. I was in a bad position because i was right near the drums so I could hear the drums live, as opposed to through a speaker.. and we all know live drums are MUCH louder than drums that are mixed into the rest of the sound... so that was difficult. But as the show went on her voice got a LOT louder. The Good - The Band. They were VERY tight and very with-it. Every song was well performed and good. Jewel's attitude and the vibe she brought to the place. Makes you realise she's just a person.. nothing special.. just a person with a lot of talent. She swears. She was reapplying lip gloss half way through the show during an ad break and some guy told her he needed some and she laughed and was like "tough shit!" That was cute. The fact that it was mostly This Way material.. apart from 2 songs... that was really good. And the fact that it was 90 minutes with only 3 commercial breaks and 3 interview segments.. leaving the rest for Jewel's music... so we got to hear a LOT of songs. Jewel played guitar on almost every song... she said she felt uncomfortable not playing her guitar whilst singing. Ok.. song by song Standing Still - same old song. Her voice was very quiet. I was disconcerted Jesus Loves You - full band version with Jewel on lead acoustic guitar! Quite good. Voice still quiet, but better Everybody Needs Someone Sometimes - VERY good live. The live version is less country, more rock-and-roll.. and her voice was getting louder by the second! I really enjoyed this one Till We Run Out of Road - Again, full band. Voice was still a LITTLE quiet.. but getting better. I Won't Walk Away - Really good. I really know what Jewel means when she says she sings more tone, less notes. it was amazing how her voice just changed to being like a jazz singer. I really liked this This Way - Not great. Her voice was too girly, high, and quiet. This isn't a live song anyway.. it's a studio song.. and it's not my favourite song Do You Want To Play - Really nice! I liked the band in this song.. Jewel was sounding better and better too. Serve the Ego - AWESOME!! I love this live. She didn't attempt her gypsy vocal thing.. but otherwise this was definitely a highlight Grey Matter - this was incredible. Hearing Jewel and her guitar without ANY noise from the audience was definitely a treat. She sounded really good on this one Hands - Good version. Same old Hands.. but a little bit jazzed up in places Who Will Save Your Soul - AMAZING. Her voice was so amazing during this song. Very jazzy and scatty. She did the same back and forth with the guitarist.. except she didn't mimmick the guitarist... and after the show i heard her saying to him that she couldn't hear him (she was wearing in-ear monitors).. so that must be why! Overall - good show. I can't wait to see her in concert! Steve ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 09 Dec 2001 21:25:54 -0800 From: "Jewel Fan" Subject: [EDA] NJC: Jenni! :D You know...
