I was surfing around the web and came across the old smoe.org address and couldn't pass up a chance to say hello to all of my EDA friends from eons ago. I have been out of the EDA world for quite some time but was happy to see some familar names still around. I just wanted to wish all of you Happy Holidays and best wishes for an awesome New Year. Hope everyone is well and I miss you! I didn't join the list so if you'd like to contact me please do so at: shellycurson@yahoo.com . Take care- Shelly P.S. I feel like saying "break me" doesn't necessarily traslate into "hurt me" like, where she wants the man in her life to really hurt her just so she can be with him. I took it as, like, ok, I'm open to whatever this brings, ready to let the walls around me down to be vulnerable to love, break me, as in being ready to let this love in despite the possibility that love always brings along, that you could get hurt...it's an honest response to it, not one that is supposed to be any sort of feminist/political correctness, all that point of view...just the actual feelings you go through...I don't know, maybe I misinterpreted his post, but just my feelings... amy *the raindrop angel* ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 5 Dec 2001 18:57:51 -0700 (MST) From: Laurel Subject: [EDA] Jingle Balls? I was redesigning my links area at http://jewelkilcher.servehttp.com, and was checking the links at the same time, and found at least half of them were no longer any good. So, I ask, if you have a Jewel related web site, please e-mail me your URL, and a banner image, if you have one. So that I may build up the area again. I know there are many great sites out there, so I want to hear from all the webmasters, or if you know of a site, that is not on my page, please recommend it to me. In her earlier days, penning tunes such as You Were Meant for Me was a natural with Steve Poltz. They were best friends, and that can build a real symbiosis artistically. The fellow she wrote Serve the Ego with, appears to be, by press accounts, more of an industry "hired gun", as a writer. As I recall he and Jewel met at a songwriter's workshop, where he was probably featured based on the fame of his being one of the writers of Smooth, which was a huge hit for Carlos Santana. Those workshops can be interesting and worthwhile, but they're sort of an artificial environment. No matter how well they hit it off, from my experience working with artists and writers, it pretty rare, if it happens at all, to find an ideal fit with a creative partner unless you've had years of knowing each other, and have gained that unique level of trust and understanding with one another. Then who knows which writer contributed which words to the song, Serve the Ego? It all gets kinda blurred... anyway, it's just a thought, that her choice of writing partners may be having a profound influence on the resulting creations. peace and cheers, Adrian ( : ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 5 Dec 2001 21:40:44 -0500 From: "Scott" Subject: Re: [EDA] Serve the Ego - and the influence of co-writers in general Well, according to Jewel she wrote all the lyrics, and then the music was written by her and the two other guys.. So the workshop environment wouldn't affect her in that case.. *shrugs* <> scott.evans [[mind is DISCONNECTED. but my heart is WIRED.]] AOL IM: sevans112 . Yahoo! Most of you guys already said what I'm about to say, but I thought i'd say it anyway! =D Jewel was excellent!! She looked great... she was dressed well. I don't like her cowboy boots. never have, never will. Thats just me though. She hair looked cute.-soft! Not like on the Kilborn show where... if you tried to run your hands through her hair, it'd get stuck in the process. Um... this was the 1st time I hear Standing Still, where I didn't dread listening to the chorus! (good going on the new back up singer, Jewel!) Maybe one day as she was performing... she looked into the audiance when she was singing the chorus... and saw people making a weird face... and some covering their ears.. and realized it was time for a new back up singer. What ever it was, we should all be extremely greatful! =D Jewel was being her Goofy self, which I LOVE!! She has a GREAT sence of humor! I was laughing SOOOOO hard when they were talking about Bob Dylan spiting! Who else was answering the questions rosie was asking Jewel?? I got 'em all right except the last one. I didn't know Jewel said her name was Sandy just to fit in. Oh well... you learn something new everyday! =D btw... I too noticed how Jewels shirt said JEWEL. Not at 1st 'cause her guitar was in the way... but after a while, I was like... hey.. her shirt says Jewel! lol. It was awesome! ok... thats my review. :) Great show! Those gross people at the rosie show got a free cd and her book, while All of US have to pay! That sucks! ~Jewel Fan~ http://www.angelfire.com/sk/killorgeteven (long story about the name of the URL. I figure Jewel (or her people) realized how poor the band sounded in the past few appearances and made the appropriate changes. I thought the performance completely blew away all the other SS tv performances before it. The song always sounded dull and lifeless and you could tell Jewel knew something was off by looking at her face while she performed. I hope she was happier with this particular version. I don't like to harp on such things, but yes, I agree she looked much better than she has recently.
