Subject: [EDA] charging for angelfood I agree with Cymbie...anyone whose charging *anything* for ANY angelfood shouldn't even be on this list. I can't believe someone would have the nerve to tell another EDA to pay $10 each for a tape that costs maybe $1-$2 max to buy. And she said more than one person replied stating that. I really hope this isn't a representation of the majority of the people on this list now. If so, that's really pathetic. I dont mean to sound cheap- and I know those > tapes are well worth it but I am kind of confused. You don't sound cheap, you sound smart to me. Don't, I repeat - DON'T - pay for any angelfood!!!! I'd like to know who is charging $10 per tape. Seriously. Thats B.S!!!!!! Angelfood, and any live recordings of any artist, for that matter, should NOT be charged for. Thats what TRADING is called. If you don't have anything to trade, thats where providing B&P (blanks and postage) come into play. If you charge, thats called profiting, it's also called stealing. No one should be making a profit off any live recording. Y'all ought to be ashamed of yourself. IF I had the time to do trading right now, I'd be more than happy to. For no more cost than the cost of a tape in return. cymbie tree hugger - -- when night falls it's dawn one must reach for. - -a. camus ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 Nov 2001 03:57:18 EST From: GWJewelGrL@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Jewel in a Gap Commercial Hey guys, My roommate came home from thanksgiving break today and told me that there is a new Gap commercial with a bunch of singers in it and that Jewel was in it for a few seconds. So there's a >question to everyone now... "Why are you an EDA ?" - -------------------- An alternative list was already created a few years ago...it's called the EODA list (every other day angels). And alot of people did go to that list when this one was moderated 100% of the time. While I respect your views and thoughts about the current state of the list, I couldn't help but to also notice that in your response to those who seem to "vent" their frustrations with things from time to time, that you were too. And you seem to expect others to tell you why they are an EDA, when you didn't even do this yourself. But to answer your question...when I joined the list over 5 1/2 years ago, it wasn't the same as it is now. Jewel wasn't the same as she is now. I haven't felt the same about her as I did then since around early 1998 I'd say. But I'm still on the list because I don't think being a fan of Jewel and being an EDA go completely hand in hand. I do still like certain aspects of Jewel...just not to the degree I once did. And I do still like certain aspects of the list...just not to the degree I once did. Therefore, I haven't left. Even if there's only a handful of people left around here that were here in the early days, or fewer who appear to have a variety of opinions about her, both good and bad, it's still enough to justify sticking around. Plus, it's free entertainment. :-) Derrick ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 Nov 2001 03:13:44 -0600 From: "Karacostas, Derrick W." Subject: FW: [EDA] Jewel in a Gap Commercial I've seen a couple different versions of this, but Jewel hasn't been in any I've seen. Plus I think we would have known about this well beforehand anyway. Artists I did see, and that I can remember, are Alanis, Sheryl Crow, Liz Phair (who looked extremely hot, it's good to see her back again!), and a few others I don't recall right now. It's a cool ad campaign though. - -----Original Message----- From: GWJewelGrL@aol.com To: jewel@smoe.org Sent: 11/26/01 2:57 AM Subject: [EDA] Jewel in a Gap Commercial Hey guys, My roommate came home from thanksgiving break today and told me that there is a new Gap commercial with a bunch of singers in it and that Jewel was in it for a few seconds. I think it's great how many of the EDAs have tried to help each other with questions on everything under the sun and also constantly trying to help out with Jewel's charities and other things. I think it's great to have a forum that has people with common interests. Though I do not agree with the constant PERSONAL attacks (or as some have liked to use "opinions") of list members. I don't see the why it would ever need to get to the point where you have to go beyond the issue. Given, sometimes the issue has BEEN a person, but it just seems that some people lack some serious communication skills. After posting my initial response, I have gotten very positive responses back and a quite a few who have agreed with the view points expressed. That gives me a lot of hope in that the Spirit is still alive and that the EDAs are still staying true to themselves. And by the way, Derrick....I don't EXPECT people to answer my question, just trying to get a thread going...you know kinda like your age thing that you didn't answer at first either. Subject: [EDA] NJC: Michelle on TV, and Natalie's new CD Those who are Michelle Branch fans may be interested in this...I just hope it isn't too late. Earlier today (yesterday technically) she was on a show on the Fox Family Channel called "Front Row". It's a one hour show that highlights upcoming artists by showing them playing several songs live. Michelle was the headliner for this morning's show, and played an amazing mostly acoustic version of Goodbye To You (the same song she played on the Buffy show), then also played Everywhere, and Something To Sleep To (which was a surprise, since her new single is going to be All You Wanted). It was really good and well worth checking out if you can catch a repeat possibly. I'd just check their website for any repeat airings. I know if first came on Saturday so today's was the first repeat. The thing that confused me was in the lower right corner of the screen, it said ABC Family Channel the whole time. Maybe they bought FOX out or something, but it's the same channel either way. So just look for that listing. I think most cable companies have this channel. In other news...does anyone remember that "Torn" singer, Natalie Imbruglia? Her debut CD came out in 1997...yeah, it's been awhile. Well she's going to release her long-awaited follow up really soon in the US. It's already out in Austrailia, her home country, and I think is supposed to have a US release early next year. However you can already get the CD from HMV Austrailia online for about $12.50 US. Quite the bargain I think. I haven't heard it yet, but from the reviews I've seen it's far better than her first CD...which I thought was quite good in itself. I think this one is more diverse though, and more attention was given to the songwriting aspect of it. I'm looking forward to hearing it and seeing her back in the spotlight again after 4 years. :-) It should be quite refreshing. I think Rowdy'd idea sounds like a interesting one! While I am skeptical of it piercing the general list apathy toward actually carrying out projects these days (why back in the old days we'd tree out angelfood even while we were sleeping...yeah...thru the snow... to a mailbox 30 miles away... with both feet broken...yeah...) Pessisim aside, I think that for the folks who do choose to partcipate , this will be at least something to look forward too and possibly just plain old downright fun! Having said all that, I submit myself for consideration to coordinate this web-project. I promise to follow thru, but we'd need to get things hammered out quite quickly as the holiday season is upon us! Jason V of the So Cal Vierlings Coordinator at Large - --------------------------------------- Date: Sun, 25 Nov 2001 03:53:23 From: "Rowdy White" Subject: [EDA] NJC: White Elephant, anyone? Hey, Well, I've not kept up with the xmas thread, but I've an idea.. Why not an EDA White Elephant gift exchange this year? Okay, What's a White Elephant? Basically it is: Folks send a list volunteer their names and address via email. The volunteer cuts up slips of paper with the different names on them. He/she has a blind drawing to match up the givers and receivers (you are on both lists . . . pledge to send a gift puts you on the receiving end also). We notify the senders of their designated victim . . . oops, I meant receiver. ;) You pick a gift . . . it's supposed to be something that's been collecting dust at your place, whatever that something would be is up to you. And the person sending you something does the same. The person getting a gift IS NOT getting their's from the same person they sent one to. Make it simple, make it crazy, its up to you.. Maybe an angelfood tape, maybe one of those silver sexy lady cutouts seen on trucks.... it's up to you.. Since there are children on the list, just make sure you use a bit of judgement on what you stick in the box!..So, post to the list if you are wanting in on something like this, and also if you would like to be a volunteer to make the drawing of names.. Perhaps that volunteer should be a long time list member, as that some people might not feel comfortable sending their addys to a "stranger"... So, Mike, Amy, Dennis, Jason, Tammy, any of ya'll free enough to do something like this? And once the volunteer is selected, or singled out as the case may be ;-) the people who want to do this email that volunteer with their names, and addys, and later the volunteer will email back with someone's name to send something to.... sound fun?
