Not everyone wants to spend their money , but with the holidays coming everything might tend to even out a little. I think that Jewel is doing pretty darn good, considering that she's not the teen flavor of the month. When "Spirit" came out, people weren't burning cd' so much like they are now.. you can install a cd burner in your computer for less than $100.00 Back in the '80s and early '90s we use to tape albums(like vinyl and in some cases cd's , they cost about $800.00 a cd player that is) so you would tape it and that's how you would share it, also you could tape of the radio, I remember calling the stations and asking DJ's not to talk over the music 'cause I was going to tape the song..the reason it never affected record sales is that, it took as long as the album lasted to tape it, also the quality wasn't as good as when you had the album. Now you can burn a cd in less than 10 minutes, the quality is great and you have our beloved internet and one of the best things to be invented after the wheel ," digital" not to mentioning the sharing programs and all. Anyone who has sold more than 150,000 cds in a week can consider themselves successful and lucky, multiply that by 2 at least and that's many people will actually have your album by the end of that week. Unless the record companies come out with a way to block the cd's from being burned, to not copy the music to your hard drive and share it, things are going to be like this for a while. I think the real money is going to come from touring, you still can't clone your favorite artist, not yet at least :) Good move though to release your cd right before the holiday's, besides selling "This Way" , she can still promote and sell her xmas CD. luv Uri ps: Did you know that you can find already Harry Potter DVD in China ? Incredible...tought thing all artists have to face.. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 Nov 2001 17:19:38 -0600 From: "New World Warehouse" Subject: [EDA] NJC: Spirit of the EDAs - Why are you an EDA ? I think it is pretty sad that a lot of the new EDAs have seen this list in such a negative form. I used to be a very proud member of this list, but it seems anymore, I try to keep myself from leaving the list everyday. Now, I've only been on the list 2 or 3 years (maybe a bit more, don't remember), and when I first joined, I mainly lurked and threw a few comments here and there. I remember the list being a pretty mature and decent forum with discussion about what she was doing in a fair manner. I seems anymore, everytime someone says something, everyone is on edge to attack them. I've noticed that it's mainly three people who tend to be "less than tactful" in their discussion styles and one of them is only doing it part of the time. While everyone is entitled to their opinion and I don't think this should ever turn into a "Jewel is God" list, I think a few people on here really need to work on their social interaction skills. If everytime you express your "opinion" you end up pissing off half the list, you aren't "controversial" or "a free thinker", you are a trouble maker. There are plenty of ways to "go against the grain" without trying to just aggrevate people. Besides, if you REALLY believed in your message, wouldn't you want everyone to really read and think about it, not just get pissed off. Most people who are pissed off or don't respect you tend to not care about what you say or sometimes are even closed minded about it. I'm not gonna throw out any names because that would just turn into another mess on here. Let's just put it this way...if you find yourself constantly in arguments with other EDAs everytime you state your "opinion" then maybe you need to sit down and look at the way you communicate. This should be a list of mutual respect. What I remember about the EDAs that I was most proud of before was the fact that they could support Jewel and each other without any real instruction or motivation needed. I haven't seen an Angelfood tree on here in forever. I've sent Angelfood to a few people here and there and in a variety of formats (video, audio...). It used to seem you could ask for Angelfood and get at least two or three responses, now it doesn't seem anyone cares. I remember everyone trying their best to talk to their radio stations and vote for Jewel on different forums (like the Celebrity Kiss thing for charity). These were the things that made the EDA's so great. I wonder why some of you are even on here. A lot of you seem to just be complaining about Jewel on every post you put up. While you don't have to like everything she does, it doesn't seem you like hardly anything. If that's the case, why not leave the list ? I mean, really, what's the point of being on a Jewel list if you don't really like her anymore ? Are you really so sad that you don't have any other social interaction that you need this list to spurt out your opinions even though you could really care less for the person it's about or the people on it ? Maybe we should get some threads going about why we are each EDAs....I mean really...why are you here ? Can you answer that on the list ? If your answer doesn't involved Jewel and some kind of positive feeling for her (not the way she "was" because it that's the case...that's not how she is NOW and that's not gonna change...if it does, then feel free to come back to the list) then maybe you should find another list. Not to mention those who think Mike is doing a bad job, should maybe start their own Jewel list and set up an open invitation to any EDAs who are unhappy here and would like to "defect". So there's a question to everyone now... "Why are you an EDA ?" I wish I could get angry...that would mean I have a truly carefree, wonderful life free of any REAL problems. Before anyone gets upset, think about it first. I agree positive feedback is more scarce than it ought to be. Thats because a lot of the more "harmonious" EDAs are shy or don't have anything that we consider worth saying. But after reading your (somewhat lengthy) e-mail, I had to speak up. I'm an EDA because Jewel stands for everything I've ever believed in. She has been my role model since I was a child (I'm almost 18 now, and consider myself an adult). I love Jewel, and I love hearing about her accomplishments, beliefs, and plans for the future. I also like being linked to other fans who understand me. Being an EDA is important to me, even if I don't speak out often enough. I would never leave the list, even if I do have to leaf through some critical e-mails occasionally. Luck, Love, & Lollipops, Lara (the sweet angel) ..... Yahoo! Her music lifts me up when i am down. Makes me smile when I don't want to. Takes me to another world where all I can hear are the instruments in the background and my voice bellowing out sounds along with Jewel. It's a break. And you people. All of you Angels know exactly what I am talking about. Or at least some of you do....I hope......Ok maybe a few????....anybody????? Oh no i'm all alone here. J/K But anyways that's why i'm here to have people that I can connect with on my Jewel level. To be able to communicate with other fans who know her as well as a fan can. And to appreciate her music together. I watched almost the whole thing-- dang, it's good TV! Haha.... it was fun to watch. Anyways, I saw Ty Murray and they showed Jewel in the stands. They showed her reactions to Ty's performance and she was wincing and grabbed her hair when he was bucked off It was fun to see though-- they focus on Ty a lot; the commercials and interviews all highlighted him.
