I should start my girl band soon,as soon as I stop buying great guitars and sucking big time! luv Uri ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Nov 2001 00:04:55 -0500 From: "Shannon L. 'Hands' was out for WAY too long before Atlantic finally released 'Down So Long'.. Had it been released while 'Hands' was just a little past its peak istead of months later, it would've been better.. But that's just my theory.. =) <> scott.evans [[mind is DISCONNECTED. but my heart is WIRED.]] AOL IM: sevans112 . Yahoo! I AM VERY MOVED, THIS WAY has enchanted me... so I am going to talk about song by song... hehehe: (First, a question, where's Michiel?? I haven't read a post from him for so long and I am waiting a review from him of THIS WAY... I'm sure he has found some way to get the album) STANDING STILL- Is an incredible song, love it. It is not as the other songs of THIS WAY and is there are better than this one, but it is still good as a first single. She sings it amazingly. JESUS LOVES YOU- IS INCREDIBLE! One of my favorites in the disc... I love the lyrics, she is very sarcastic and funny. The insrumentation in the bridge is amazing... is too crazy... which emphasizes the point of the song... she is so playful (the voice of Jewel and the instrumentation), and experimental... EVERYBODY NEEDS SOMEONE SOMETIME- I love it... it is different... I like it more than when she sang it in tour of the 99... it seems a song from another time (from years ago), she sings it with much passion and she plays a lot with her voice (well, in all the songs she does that)... love it. BREAK ME- Ahhhhhh... I cried. THIS SONG IS BEAUTIFUL! I like the studio version more than the live version... REALLY BEAUTIFUL and romantic... I love the instrumentation... Don't speak of Foolish Games and You Were Meant For Me when we have BREAK ME! I love the way she sings it... I will like it to be 2nd or 3rd single. DO YOU WANT TO PLAY- this liking this song but... I now do not like Me much in tour of the 99... but this enchanting to me. He is or glad and it sounds very amused (I believe that they have done it asi because DO YOU WANT TO PLAY is called) and it sings it again incredible..., its voice or juguetona... TIL WE RUN OUT OF ROAD- Love it... sounds similar to the life of Jewel and Ty (duh!)... it sounds very honest and genuine... Instrumentation is beautiful (has as mandolin at the back) and I love the bridge. SERVE THE EGO- This song has improved a lot and she sings it incredible, with an amazing force! Another one of my favourites in spite of being different... it is the only different one in all the album with THE NEW WILD WEST. THIS WAY- Is a pretty song, it is very tender and romantic. IT MUST BE a SINGLE... is the one that has the most opportunity " to be liked " by other... although it is not one of my favourites... but equally it is incredibly pretty... very acoustic and everything and its voice sounds very sweet. CLEVELAND- I have always liked this song and I am glad that it is in the album... it has a joyful and playful arrangement and I love it kind of country-ish sound. I WON'T WALK AWAY- I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SONG... another one of my favourites... always sticks to me, and I found myself singing it in the street hahaha. It is very fun to sing... It has happy lyrics (in relation to love) but the melody is kind of sad, which I love. MUST BE A SINGLE. LOVE ME JUST LEAVE ME ALONE- THIS VERSION ME MADE SO GLAD! IT IS INCREDIBLE... and the way in which it sings... wow! I am glad that she rescued it... I loved the version that she sang in the 97, but it was sang horrible in the tour of 99. AND NOW IT IS INCREDIBLE! It is more acoustic and I simply LOVE the beginning, just too cool. THE NEW WILD WEST- This song is incredible. I do not like much the percussion that was put to it... I hate that type of percussion... but I forgive her because the other arrangements are incredible (all very rare... but sound incredible), later the song is improved! SHE SINGS INCREBLE, but I ABSOLUTELY LIKE MORE THE SOLO ACOUSTIC VERSION SHE SINGS LIVE. I love the part when she sings "It's my I've been petty..." with the cello at the back... that part is incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well, I hope I haven't bored you... but the album is absolutely great... Although it has more instrumentation than I thought and it is very different to POY, I love the diversity of the songs and the way to me that sings them... I HOPE THE NEXT SINGLES ARE: THIS WAY BREAK ME LOVE ME JUST LEAVE ME ALONE I WON'T WALK AWAY Mirko *angel from Peru* Find the one for you at Yahoo! Personals http://personals.yahoo.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Nov 2001 01:01:40 -0500 From: "Scott" Subject: [EDA] Ent. Weekly review From this week's EW.. They never like Jewel.. It's like a rule for the magazine.. I just don't think I've heard anything really positive about her from them.. Besides their ANWA review.. Which doesn't really cound because they dissed the book countless times in the following year.. lol.. So anyway: Jewel - This Way (Atlantic) On her third album, Jewel looks to Nashville. Things quickly go wrong. Working with producer Dann Huff, the music is Faith Hill-slick; "edgy" guitar licks make "Serve The Ego" and "This Way" into some of the cleanest, dullest songs about ache ever recorded. Jewel shows off pain in both a low scratch and a thundering howl, but country is about stories, and her lyrics--from the self-consciously quirky ("She lived beneath the disco discount store, with pictures of Randy Newman scattered all across the floor") to the nail-in-your-head obvious ("Wrong or right, be mine tonight, Harsh world be damned, we'll make a stand")--don't get the job done. A misstep. C- --Josh Tyrangiel As a footnote, when the hell does "This Way" try to employ "edgy" guitar licks? And it's a love song, not one of heartache.. And the lyrics to "I Won't Walk Away" are amazing.. He takes those lines out of context to the mood of the song, and it sounds cheesy.. This guy is an annoying reviewer.. I've never heard of him before, and I don't care to again.. It's not because he disagrees about Jewel, it's the gross misconstrument he uses in his criticisms...erk. scott.evans [[mind is DISCONNECTED. but my heart is WIRED.]] AOL IM: sevans112 . Yahoo!
